Several Lists for Covenant of Antarctica @ 1500 Points

Hello,

 

I'd like to show some of my concept-lists for the Covenant of Antarctica. We use to play 1500P with few rulechanges:

 

Our changes @ 1500 Points:

 

- we keep the old "I go-You go" mechanism.

- max. 3 large units (1 Massive counts as 2 Large) - and: for each point of damage a large/massive units takes its dice colour gets reduced by 1 Level.

- before deployment, every player may choose up to 5 cards from his card deck. (we don't use the complete card deck, cause we've simply tossed away cards until we drew good ones... thats too dependant on luck imho). If a player choses to take less than 5 cards, he gets 1 additional Command Points once a game for every card he didn't take.

- Infantry & Ironclads occupy cities automatically.

- For each loosed KR reduce the dice color of all attacks made by large models by one.

- Regrouping takes place in a battalion’s activation segment rather than in a formations command segment.

Personnally I'd go for the third list :

- it seems quite flexible with strong ground and air formations

- high CP is a must have for soptting tests

- your artillery have to hide behind a large front provided by a quite large archimedes and atticus regiment

Thx, I don't know if the 2nd and 3rd list are too strong. I don't want to pi** my oponent off. Since I tested the Herotodus with those little bombers I was wondering weather or not the CoA are an extremely powerfull nation in AC. But as I've only played against the Russian Coallition (with their high KR and the nearly indestructable large airship) and aginst the Republique of France (with those damn Heat Lances and Heat Lancettes) I lack experience regarding the other nations.

I played the 1st list on wednesday against EotBS fielding:

 

1 complete Cavalry Regiment (Gyro, 3x4 Medium Tanks, 2x4 Small Tanks)

1 Heavy Walker Detachment (Taka Ashi Mk II, 2x3 Ronin)

1 Aeronautical Forward (Airfield)

 

We played an attacker-defender-scenario. CoA were defending the Aerodrome and the 2 Towers. Therefor both towers got an guardian generator (4", 1). EotBS had to destroy both towers and Aerodrome to win.

 

We tried 3 new rule changes/clarifications:

- Infantry & Ironclads occupy cities automatically.

- For each loosed KR reduce the dice color of all attacks made by large models by one.

- Regrouping takes place in a battalion’s activation segment rather than in a formations command segment.

 

 

It was a thrillig game. The Airfield, the Walker and the TBT were a real threat. He had 5 CP vs my 3 CP. That was awfull.

 

1st turn: I managed to damage the walker and lost 1 Atticus

2nd turn: I made a terrible misstake in the order of march phase that cost me my 2 Pytheus regiments and my scorpios Bombards. I managed to destroy the Walker, 4 small and 1-2 medium tanks.

3rd turn: small & medium tank nearly all wiped out (except 3 atticus).

4th turn: he destroyed the radio tower. The atticus managed to damage the airfield once

5th turn: he destroyed the other tower. The atticus damaged the airfield again.

6th turn: The atticus damaged the airfield again, which got down by disorder ;-) he damaged my airfield thrice, but lost, due to an misstake in his order of march phase...

 

It was a very close game. I should have lost it due to my huge failure in the 2nd turn. But my opponent was very unlucky with his disorder tests (kagoshima).

 

I came to the conclusion, that 3 CP aren't enough against the EotBS. I need at least 4 CP... The changes worked out very well.

You lost! What a pity! :D

 

Will you try to replay this game? We tried a quite same scenario where 2K points of my Russians were defending a bunker complex with 4 observatory towers VS 3k points of Prussians and Frenches!

Attackers had to reach and secure an objective token in the city defended py the fortifications.

 

CP is the key for a defender, as he has to pass every disorder test to keep control of the terrain. I'd favor high CP lists in every cases. ;)

Not at all, cause I won. But it was only by luck. The game was very funny.

 

I've played this mission twice. 1st time was against russians where I was playing CoA attackers and had to destroy a command centre. I lost this one by luck of my opponent. It also was a very close match and lots of fun.

 

Yes I will surely replay this game since I made Mission cards to draw pre-game and this is one of those missions. We randomly select victory conditions/missions/scenarios at the beginning of the game. So it all depends on fate/luck if and when this mission will be played again...

Your Mission cards caught my interest! Are the book scenarios included in them?

 

I gernerally prefer to write a narrative scenario but your system permits to play fast games by accelerating preparation, I guess.

No they are not included yet. Right now we have 15 Scenario Cards. The 9 I've posted (2 of them twice) and 4 additional "capture some Mission-Marker and bring it into deployment zone". The book scanarios and the 2 download scenarios will soon be included... I simply lack an idea of how to print them on small cards and how to manage different army sizes (download scenarios).

 

Narrative scanarios sure are very cool. I simply wanted a easy going mechanism to play different games than just to kill each other.

Besides I've added 2 Lists I made for our Missions/Scenarios. These Lists include even more ironclads and medium tanks to be more capable of achieving the missions. I reduced the number of stationary and aeronautical units, cause they can't fulfill my goals. Therefor I tend to include 1-2 of these elements at max.

Did you tried to remove Colossus and split the armoured regiment in 2, leaded by 2 Archimedes?

 

It would add some punch and would give more CP...

 

errr... but I figure that it would create a lack of reco drones. :unsure:

 

Maybe I would work while droping 2 Icaroi! :P
