Hi,

I would say expect them June/July - earlier if we can. We've a lot of important FA, UCS and DW stuff to roll out and then we'll be able to get these guys manufactured for you. They won't be a short term thing. Once they are out, they will stay out and be expanded upon.

All the best,

Spartan Neil

PS: Nanoform of Doom..................love it! :o

that's great. released on time it then becomes birthday gift for myself on release then

PS good rule: do not post before one wakes up. Coherency rules for speaking/posting have yet to kick in before first coffee

Now I really want to get this battleship. And seriously considering buying land force (which I avoided for the whole time, except for metzger which is amphibious so it does not count :) ). Though a bit suprised by round frigate, I wonder if most of the RC ships will be round? It will give some truly unique view. Thanks Spartan Games for this preview! Now is the hard part - to wait until release. :)

The round Frigate is inspired by the Novgorod a coast defence ship completed in 1874. As to them all being round, I believe it plays a 'theme'? Take a closer look at the battleship, it has a very wide beam which is a bulge towards the stern. These lovely models have doomed me to a third fleet as soon as Spartan release them. ;)

I'm really hopeing that (whilst I love zepplins and russians need some) that the main russian air battle ship will be a fortress design lifted from the WWII experimental plans :)

Also I love the look of that land ship; also I notice its not just a land ship, its a land dreadnought - is this a sign that long with the mammoth mobile airfields we'll be seeing land dreadnoughts as well!

Not 100% sold on the round frigate; I like the idea and that its a got a historical source, but I think I'll wait and see them in the flesh before passing judgment (however if the teaser of the front of the battleship is anything to go by I'm sold --- now take my money NOW! ;))

I'm kind of expecting the Russian's land Dreadnought to denote a trend we hadn't noticed previously.

Some nations focus on sea, and they get ships that are Dreadnoughts.

Some nations focus on land, and they get tanks/walkers that are Dreadnoughts.

And hopefully a lucky few nations focus on air, and they get flying Dreadnoughts.

To be honest its hard to say anything about the battlehsip from this perspective.

The frigate is different what is ok.

The Dreadnaught is nice but not really convincing me yet.

All those tubes are a nice fitting detail.

I wil have to wait and see until i get more pictures/perspectives.

Hmm I don't know. I kind of see the dreadnought as being a mainstay core fleet unit. Frigate, cruiser, battleship, dreadnought, carrier (only because of the strong air precense in the world set). That I would see as the bare bones core fleet for a major power (and Russia is a very big major power). I'd see the rest of the fleet addtions to be more support ships toward that core and an area where "cuts" could be made to a less specialist fleet.

I'd be worried that not having a dreadnought would seriously hinder a factions sea effectiveness, unless they made up for it with higher than average stats. That said it could also be an areas where alliances+smaller factions group up.

Personally though, I don't see this being the case for Russia. They are just too big to not be able to field an effective full see and air army - though considering the fluff I could see them having a stronger ground army (maybe with some stronger air for support) and so might end up without as varied a navy (then again they also made the Black Wolf)

It could be the Russians may lose out on something like a Mobile Airfield but grab the dread instead. The newer factions are starting to get a lot more adventurous with new units replacing standard ones. Alternatively, what if they are like the French and they basically just receive a beefier version of a given unit. The RoF Sky Fortress is a monstrosity and could easily be considered a sky dreadnought. Perhaps the RusCo army has a beefy Land Ship that is essentially a land dread.

The land dread idea sounds plausible, except that according to the fluff there are Russian landships. They tend to be smaller, but have the ability to burrow. Perhaps the Russians are looking at "pocket landships"? :P

Also with regards to the naval dreadnought speculation I am pretty sure that the Russians will have one. How effective it'll be is another matter.

My final thought is a guess as to russian tactics: slow and wallowing, but with massive frontal firepower, backed up by a strong marine complement. What do people think?

As a Core Nation there is no reason why the Russians will not get all the options? Perhaps I'm missing something here?

I know the RoF have not been issued with everything yet, but I believe they will be in due course.

Remember Spartan are a relatively small company (with some cracking games) that have expanded over a short period of time, and they have at the moment three core games systems which are all receiving their loving care and attention. This impacts on their ability to deliver what we as their loving and adoring public want. Which is basically everything yesterday! I know it is in my case and definately with regards the Russians! :)

Hi Guys,

This is just a preview for now, more to come. They're getting lots of models, just like the other nations. They'll get a Land Ship, Naval Dreadnoughts and stuff like that. They do have their own stuff as well, such as a mean machine that happens to go under the ground.

All the best,

Spartan Neil

The French have a flying dreadnought :P

Loving the Russian previews, the round frigate is awesome! First thing I thought of was Firestorm Armada Directorate frigates lol! Then I was very pleased to discover that it is or may be based on a historical design!

WELL done yet again Spartan! Can't wait for the Italians and Ottomans and Chinese ;)

INHABITANTS OF THE FORUM

I CALL TO YOUR ATTENTION THIS PETITION:

A Representation and Agreement of the Various Commanders of the Armed Forces of the Dystopian Wars to Spartan Games

WITH THE FOLLOWING REQUESTS

  1. That in the interests of reinforcing the desires of many to collect the Russian Coalition, they release a SECOND ROUND OF PREVIEWS detailing some more of the units of that nation.
  2. In particular the AIR FORCES OF THIS ILLUSTRIOUS NATION.
  3. This is desired: (1) To encourage all those of us who are now glaring with jealousy at the French Air Fleet to wait for the Russians, (2) To fill the foes of the Russian Coalition with DESPAIR and (3) To give MythicKhan something to look forward to when he leaves the forums until his exams in May are over.

I HUMBLY ASK THAT THOSE COMMANDERS WHO AGREE WITH THIS

Representation and Agreement

WILL APPEND THEIR NAMES TO THIS DOCUMENT BELOW

Presented for subscriptions in the year of the Great War, 1870

Actually I think Dystopian is ok with previews at the moment. We know Russians are next - we know that they are expected before June/July and we know roughly what the army will have in terms of unit composition (ie similar to the current forces with the exception of a ground dreadnought at least).

Whilst I'd like more previews I feel that such attention is better targeted toward Firestorm Armada (who have no current release details) and Uncharted Seas (which has some rough statements of new released approaching but no details of what they entail).
