@ Northerndragons thats what I originally thought but the sculpt is different between the 4 with the carrier and the 2 with the battleship. Interchangability would be interesting though

Well I'll be...you're right.  Perhaps it's a drop on, resin or pewter.

Maybe its trickery to get me to buy them to find out!! Not that I wouldn't have anyways. Upon closer inspection I think you might be right on the drop in piece. The bases of the city looks like the same on both just the center spire is different. Now its off to work so I can get the money to buy them.

Anyone know why in the description it says cruiser/destroyers? Its says it for both sets.

probably because the minis are interchangeable, much like the Russian escort in DWars.  Two different stats, and the same sculpt.  Just have to paint one up differently to show it's the destroyer.

If you read the note at the bottom of the pictures listed in the shop its stated that they include the parts to swap between the destroyer and cruiser. I'm seeing a magnet tutorial in the future. Ha, just noticed the post above mine :P.

Actually, more likely that they have some parts interchangeable, like the chinese gunship/cruiser.

Also, they do come with "resin, pewter and acryllic parts" so a lot fo the ziggzaggy things and spires will be lightweight acryllics, nice of them.

Also anyhow, they aren't "my" kind of design, but they are objectively really cool.

I keep looking at them and thinking the battleship would make really cool space station.  Something anicent and alien.  But I'm with you on that point, they don't appeal to me beyond that point.

Like the way they stand out, and FA has yet to have a fleet that looks like floating cities. Keeping figures in sane size limits the designers abilities to differentiate fleets, and so far most fleets are different (not going the GW way of making bigger and bigger stuff that cost more and more...). I´d believe most players choose the ships that appeal to them and the more difference there are between looks and such the better imo :).

I like how Spartan makes fleets very different from each other. They must have a very large DVD collection of sci-fi movies for the design team. If they run out of ideas, they could have a design contest for new ideas if they need to.

SHUNT MATRIX

When a model with the Shunt Matrix MAR activates it may declare that it is going to perform a Battle Shunt. The model must choose a number of D6 between 2 and 8 that determines the random distance of its Battle Shunt move. It declares which direction it will move in, and what its final orientation will be (this DOES NOT include pointing at a particular target).

Roll the chosen number of dice for the Battle Shunt; the total determines the exact distance in inches that the model MUST move in a straight line in the direction that it declared. Once the model has moved it MUST be placed with the orientation that was declared.

A Battle Shunt IGNORES the rules for intervening Terrain and Mines. A model CAN declare that it is going to Cut Engines after a Battle Shunt. A model fires normally after a Battle Shunt and CAN perform a Boarding Assault. If a model ends its move in an Asteroid Field it MUST perform a Manoeuvre Test. If the model ends its move in a Planetoid it is Destroyed automatically.

What Pok said. They have a more widespread deployment of it but, it appears, there are limits (technology-wise) to what it can do on larger ships (which is a nice fluff way if saying it was totally op having it be unlimited :P).

They're quite a bit of fun, completely different feel to them from whats out now. It doesn't hurt that they look terrific. A group of these with some spiders was a blast too, half of the ships bouncing in and out of range made it pretty simple to slide the cloaked ships up and the extra command distance helped a ton with the cruisers shunting.
