April 2013 Release: League of Italian States and More!

Recommended Posts

(Spartan Games edit)

Known around the world as the masters of surface raiding, the League of Italian States maintains a sizable fleet of powerful warships to patrol the Mediterranean. With their bristling turrets mounted atop ornate, arrow-thin hulls these vessels of war make no effort to hide their true nature in battle as they descend upon the enemy like a pack of wolves, circling and outmanoeuvring before delivering the final killing blow.

The Naval Battle Group forms the heart of your League of Italian States navy, but the core of the fleet lacks no amount of support in the form of the nation’s larger or more specialised warships: a Carrier, fast Destroyers and deadly Motor Torpedo Boats. Working in tandem with the other ships of the fleet, the elements of a Support Group are what make the Italian Navy such a threat on the high seas. Simply add both boxed sets together to build a force of around 1,250 Points – and you’re ready to game with this new and exciting nation.

We are also giving you the opportunity to pick up 7 more of the exciting new armoured models we previewed in the ‘Tanks, Tanks and more Tanks’ blog, including the deadly Ryuo Class Large Robot and the inspired Columbia Class Land Train. And don’t forget – these models are compatible with both our Dystopian Wars and Armoured Clash rules.

These models will be shipping from 1st May 2013. From today, you can place your advance orders in the Spartan Games Online Store to ensure you do not miss out on these exciting new releases.

Will you be picking any of these up?

(End edit)

The Italians are finally revealed. Not just one naval starter set but two, including a support set, with carrier, destroyers frigates and tokens. I love this support set idea and would also love to see this done with the rest of the nations, hint hint Spartan.

The beauty of the support set is that it gives you three frigates (to round out the 9 you get in the starter set) and a full squadron of destroyers, so no more odd numbered squadrons, and it all comes with a carrier to boot

although i admire the simplicity and cost savings of the escort/figate model i worry about the confusion for those of us who have our dreds fully escorted but who also need a squad of frigates on the other side to prevent unwelcome robot boarding

maybe some cosmetic changes? My FSA Dread James T. Kirk has red markings on its escorts.

each of my fleets' escort models are painted to match their "Parent" in some way. My Russians are currently getting painted, but the Escorts/Frigates are either getting coloured bands inside their mortar/AA ring, or I might make drop-ons similar to what draco does

The look of those guns suggest good range. Finally. I love my PE fleet, but it's quite frustrating about range. Now with this fleet, I hope to be able to field some long-range hitter.

My Rusikes have there starter set frigates with black skirts and red centres apart from 3 who have red skirts and a black centre so they can swap with black or red being escorts depending on how many i need

I like the look of these models, but it always irks me to see ships designed with the smoke stack IN FRONT of the bridge. This would be a disaster in real life. But oh well... these look really really cool and I am excited to learn the new rules, including those for the small boats. Fun stuff!

although i agree they really did build some bent ships around this era , steam powered subs that could crash dive in 11 minutes (once you put the fire out and dismantled the chimney !) and aircraft carriers with the bidge and funnel in the middle of the flight deck ?

Can anyone tell me where to find pictures of the italians? I've been searching but couldn't find them.

Edit: Already found them :D

I'm excited for everyone else buying into the Italians (I'm going to pass for financial reasons), but for me, I'm excited about the Armored Clash boxes. . .even though I don't play Armored Clash.  I looked at the RoF box and it has four Bastille-class landships. . . including a model for the character landship, Danton.  Maybe the other character landships are getting their own specific models too!

Thats been covered, it isnt its "own" model, its just 1 less turret and a generator drop on. Same as all the character ships, they'l be putting the drop ons on the spartan bitz service.

Do like the look of the support set though. Not overly useful for me (blegh at the Yurgis, not massive on the EotBS large Navels in general and im not Paying £20 for the sake of 3 frigates.)

The armoured clash sets look nice too, even if you dont want to play AC its a full DW land force with extra options and bonus junk. Well worth the price tag as a starter for a second army (though makes me wonder if theyl do a big army bundle for the nave as well?)

I really like the look of those ships - of all the armies I think that they have the most ship like looking ships of any faction. That is to say that barring exotics like the carrier, I could see those hulls sailing in a real fleet on the high seas. The addition of the speedboats is great!
