Official Kurak Alliance Thread: Veydreth

Veydreth are gorgeous ships - almost make me want to play for the AoK....

 

Veydreth were the first AoK ships I ever bought.  I'm so very excited that they're getting fleshed out, and I can't wait to get my hands on them.

I really hope they dont resculpt the gunship, it's a beautiful model.

 

Looking at the updated PDF, they're resclupting both the destroyer and gunship.  :unsure:

 

Probably for ease of production and assembly.  I still have nightmares about cleaning up my Hunters... they had a huge gob of pewter on the bow.

I noticed.. :( 

They're going to make the design more homogenous.. I liked that the destroyer and gunship looked so different from each other.

I will also miss the gunship. It was a glorious model and I wanted to run a fleet with as many as I could. Unfortunately, you can't take a whole lot of them.

Too bad the battleship won't be just a bigger version of the gunship, but the new renders do look nice.

Hi everyone - first post!  I'm brand new to FA and have the Terran force from the Valhalla set plus an Ares carrier.  I really like the sound of Veydreth as an alliance force - fast and lots of firepower seems like a great compliment to the Terrans.

 

However, the news that the previous Prowler model is going away is troubling as I really like it.  Should I try to grab some now before they become difficult to find?

I hope with GW killing their entire specialist games line that SG will attract the attention of all the Gothic Battlefleet players looking for their space combat fix.

I also find out SG and FS:A because I was unhappy with direction that GW took. I'm happy to be here.

Old models only go awa when the new ones are released, so..for now you don't have to worry, but you might as well start collecting them slowly. No need to panic-buy though.

True, but it seemed like they are starting to get a little difficult to find online.  My FLGS doesn't carry FA.

 

Also, does anyone know if both the Prowler and Hunter models are going to get redesigned or discontinued?

Just looked through the Veydreth stats and these guys have devestating potential, mine laying, ambushing cruisers, keep the enemy guessing and then hit them from all sides.

difficult target corvettes with mines, race into enemy formations and drop mines in their ranks.

Not built to last but their fluff states simular....played agressive however these bad boys can ruin your day.

Just remember having nothing actually active on the board means your opponent has the luxury to move and position how they desire, and they can choose to "isolate" your tokens and poke at them one by one with the strength of their whole fleet.

Sure, but who says you're not just revealing them all on turn 1 anyways.  I don't see Ambush as a means to play mind games with my opponent or wait for three turns before activating my trap card; I see it as purely a way to win deployment, and be exactly where I want to be on turn 1 with my whole fleet.  The most my opponent is doing is moving 10" in a direction I don't want them too, but I'll still be either in optimal immediately, or can reach optimal by moving a little.

 

Not to mention that the Veydreth are flawlessly designed to take the maximum advantage of ambush.  Quick movement, mines to lay in the heart of the fleet from turn 1, and board like few others, coupled with versatile firepower in multiple arcs.  You don't have to worry about making the trek across no-man's land like the Lizards do; you're already there.  Even the fleets that enjoy being in RB1 and 2 are going to flinch at the combined offensive abilities of the Veydreth.

 

But really, the only thing stopping me from going balls out on a Veydreth fleet is that I'm waiting for the next batch of models.  If they're half as pretty as the current ones, I'll be over the moon.

Are those of us who belong to the glorious tribes of the 'Star Dragons' hoping for a September release?

 

Regarding Ambush, does the squadron get one token or is it one token per ship with the Ambush Mar?  I know it's worded so that it's a set number of tokens.  IE:  ship has the Ambush (1) MAR would place one Ambush token.  But would a squadron of three ships place three tokens?  (assuming they all had Ambush(1))

i assume its squadron number otherwise they would just be mean with a squad of three destroyers  and a squad of three asssault cruisers and three gunships in an 800 pt gamethat would be 12 markers on table

My work addled brain last night should have used the search function.  It's indeed one token per squadron and not one token per ship.  The only exception is the Hunters which get two tokens per squadron.
