Definitely change Hasta for another Gladius

I like italian skyfortress, so i would go rather with that instead of Mars, full squadron of Pillums is good too.

So my opinion, change Hasta and Mars for gladius, pillum and Sky fortress. Its about only 15 pts more i think.

I understand your reasoning on this and it's a viable tactic but the Mars is a brute of a battleship when it comes to firepower.

Hasta is the weak link in the original list. Extra gladius plus whatever options you go for will be a better use of your points

Mars is awesome battleship indead, but just... affondatore and minerva have almost same AD, except broadsides, which is very poor on Mars anyway, and i play most often only with 1 000 pts, so most times i just dont have space for Mars. :D

I prefer heavy boarding/ Calc. gen.  build for 1000 pts, like:

Affondatore

Ballistae

3x Pillums with MkII

Minerva

3x Cinqueda

5x Scutums

1x Pugio escort (because 25 pts left, and it is not enough for fourth cinqueda   :( )

I tried some other builds, next game i will try Hasta again, but i think, it will not be good.

Some cool list, which i used once for 1 000 pts:

Affondatore

Minerva

Minerva

4x Fortune bomber

4x Cinqueda

5x Scutum

3x Pugio

(980 pts)

Lots of smalls and mediums, only 1 large ship, Affondatore, so i used escorts for boosting it defence. Two minervas are great, Fortune bombers are awesome, if use corectly and enemy dosesnt have CC duo too calf. gen. They can sink any submarines, and badly damage most of other ships.

in my next battle, i want try something with insane heavy firepower, and try Hasta, like:

Affondatore

Mars

Hasta

Minerva

3x Gladiuses

3x Cinqueda

or something like that (this is 1005 pts)  :)

enjoy your minerva while it lasts.....the nerf hammer is coming

Ye, but only slightly nerf, i dont expect somethink huge, like nerf in HP, DR/CR, thats fine, minerva is very fragile. Maybe higher price, more strategic value, slightly less dice

New updates are online....

Did Minerva lost invetive scientists rule or they just forget to wrote that there? In my point of view is second option right, but it could be just my wish.... but in that case is DR/CR 5/6 quiet stupid..isn´t it (plus that "Important note" under stats)? Other battle cruisers have normal shield too, but have still 5/7....

Looks like they forgot the inventive scientists part.

I'm more concerned about the losing cr for the large/massive...yes, the carrier is now massive...but the Minerva has been hit fairly hard. It was expected though.

For some bizarre reason the scutums and cinquedas got better...didn't see that coming lol

And the Hasta has been fixed...yey

Much better, and you will see people use the heavy bomber now :D

I used it twice before the update, and before I got the Chinese through the sale.

First game, it died pathetically. The second game it worked very well indeed. Seemed that so long as your opponent doesn't look at it, it'll work perfectly well.

Varnos did a great summary in the "New ORBATs thread", I'd just like to add another small change that was included: The Commodore doctrines got a small rewording, not much of a change for "Repel boarders", but a necessary clarification and a nice boost to the one use only "power to the shields".

Besides that: I really hope you guys have fun with the new ORBAT. I am really interested to see how the SGS will be included in your forces and what you think of the units that got the "bigger" changes like the Hasta, the Fortuna and so on. Feel free to report any outstanding new balancing issues with playtests.

Cheers and happy gaming!

Hi,

I know that this is a little off topic but can you please report your battles to the Dystopian Wars Online Campaign?

Right know there is event going on, called Battle for Malta and its up to players to

decide (by reported battles) if Malta will stay in British hands or if it will be captured

by Imperial Bond.

For more information please visit:http://community.spartangames.co.uk/index.php?/topic/16832-dystopian-wars-open-online-campaign/page-2

If you want to report battle plese use: http://ohmcz.eu/dw/reportc.php

Has anyone tried the new Hasta?

16 primary dice at RB 2- OK

with 6 AA and 4 SAW fairly good against enemy SAS.

How about the Stilettos? Frigates of the air. Definitely an Air superiority role. I have this image of them getting within 8" of a target, ( a bit crowded with five models), shooting them ( holding off on AA unless the target is weak) and then flying PAST to minimize the attack coming back.  The 14" move means may not even lose one before it can attack.

I could see them against the medium air dirigible units, like the Furieux, Lee, Saransk, and most of the medium (Including the "heavy" mediums) bomber and air to air units. Not a Merlin, but with elusive/small fairly survivable. Thoughts?

What's with the 4" minimum move? With a 0" turn limit?

With the other good LoIS units, I have never tried the Stilettos. Possibly a flanking unit.

I like to field them without allies as they are quite capable of putting up a decent fight on their own. I feel the close allies rule is now too used and abused. It was supposed to be to bring variation and character to player's fleets but has turned into a means to bring attributes to nations that were never designed to get them. I blame the rules designers for not spotting this earlier.

Cheers

The Italians hold up well against just about everyone without needing any allied ships. Most of the 'allied' nations do now. I could understand when the model range for them was smaller but most now have at least aerial/naval boxes plus add ins. I like the rules around mercenary lists as hec and eimc still feel very two dimensional. On the whole I agree with Peanutbreath about nations needing to have some weakness and not being able to bring all the toys to the battlefield as it destroys overall balance. There's a time and place however, with mates on a rainy afternoon do what you want...if you're attending a tournament playing individuals you've never met before it doesn't feel as alright. I've always gone the purist route but not everyone I game with does. All down to personal preference. The rules aren't being broken, I just don't use them myself.

Another question, the Italian ships, does anyone have an image of one of them next to another battleship, they look really narrow, and I just wonder if it is a trick of the camera as Spartans store images often don't do their lovely models justice
