Official Thread: Ottoman Empire

Sad is a terrible battleship :P the japz will eat them for breakfast, it has no high dice pools to take on larges, a decent battleship produces about 18 or so dice in rb2, what's the sad, about 12? I've only fought the ottomans once and at one point there was a sad/sokotsu duel, it didn't go well for the sad :P, if there's a kaiju or dreadnought about then its time to surrender :P

I would say the Hachiman could take 4 of them :D

I'm more or less expecting nodes in turn 1/2 and rockets, thus meaning I can go home early.

I've already expressly begged him to leave the Dreadbot at home...

The Japanese comprehensively outclass me in every aspect, but data is data, and gods know Spartan need to see directly how awful the ottomans are.

Lerriano, it dies not count as allies per se, but I typically use 2 vulcan repair ships and keep them around my mediums to make them last longer. In some games I have played, it has been the best 80 points I ever spent...

That's a strong idea, definitely something I'll ponder in future, but I'm trying to see how raw Turks fare against a variety of opponents.

Really goddamn badly, is the answer.

I would rather fight the robot, the Hachiman is better firepower wise :) and its a huge point sink, japz already struggle with activations.

So do turks. Dread and Hisar are guaranteed loss via prizing, activations are a real problem for turks too.

I tried Hissar half year ago on one tournament and it was never prized and its excelent ship. The same is Kanuni - you need to kill enemy before he kills you. Sadrazam cannot do that. The same is with Fettahs

I suggest to take

Kanuni

Hissar

2x2 Sinops with one wing upgrade (that mean 4wing strong SAS)

and the rest fill with smalls

You will get air superiority and enough firepower to do some damage

Playing 1500pts against Japanese tomorrow. Any tips? (which dont involve "play as a different faction" or "take allies", I'm technically still on operation awful orbat)

Rockets are going to hurt, ALOT. Its likely Torpedoes will too- you just dont have the AA/CC to deal with them.... so Id suggest always, always, always concentrating firepower on something till its dead.

Since the Japanese have high CRs, Id go for the DR and just plink them to death whenever possible- but thats weapon intensive, and the Ottomans dont have Brittanian numbers of turrets, so it might not be doable.

Everyone spams corvettes these days :P and u don't need much at all to board the hizzar, for a ship being so huge it defiantly needs more ap, even if they make them defensive or security posts, but even they don't save you either vs the better boarding corvettes.

Once again, my real enemy is the orbat.

The Kanuni has been the only Ottoman ship that is worth anything for me. It's never been sunk or prized and puts out a lot of firepower. It's a hefty price tag but really is the only ship worth anything in the fleet.

I don't have the book in front of me but my group is under the impression that a ship is not an eligible target from boarding if it is more than two sizes larger than the attacker... Corvettes should not be able to target a dreadnaught with boarding.

That's a house rule because there is absolutely nothing in the rules restricting size classes in boarding.

But there is a restriction between the height bands. Models on the Surface cannot board models in the Obscured Flying height band and vise versa without the Long Range Assault MAR.

But both Corvettes and Dreadnoughts are naval surface models so there isn't any problem here.

Well there is no such rule.

But if you now that Kanuni will be prize-target for corvets it´s fairy easy to keep him safe even against 2-3 squads of corvets. Give him CAP (with enough Sinops or Hissar you should  have enough SAS) and focus your Mizraks on killing Corvets. You do not need to kill them all just to reduce the squadrons to 2-3 models and then they are no longer serious thread to fresh dreadnought.

Good point, and thanks for the clarification. We often have issues with one person finding some rule or interpreting incorrectly and the rest of us follow like mindless sheep.

Regardless, the Kanuni is the only ship I've had great success with in the Ottoman fleet.

With no viable escort, cap stripped off by AA, and lacking the punch to knock out all the vessels plinking away at its DR from range, my dreadnought fell very easily. Vs the EIMC whose Sustained fire is much much better than ours, for no sane reason.
