Load Out On The Aronnax

Recommended Posts

So we know it has a Particle Accelerator, what else?

Its hard to tell if there are any other weapons. Maybe a light broadside (read Frigate-like) from those nodes on the sides. But those could just be AA.

The description doesn't read like a robot. Maybe a decent AP load of Iron Men for unheard of Antarctican boarding operations?

Iron ram? Similar MAR as the Ika?

In any case, it doesn't seem likely to have much punch at higher ranges. Maybe nothing outside of RB1.

Also how fast does thing have to move to be worth it?

I'd like to see 8" + Dolphin Dipper

That would be sweet!

I can't see it moving much faster than 8" due to size, but Dolphin Dipper would be an elegant way to up its speed while giving it a nice Covenant element to it. Besides, it clearly moves like that anyway! As far as load out goes, PA and nothing else ranged seems likely, but it will almost certainly be a boarding robot as well, which is super cool.

I'd imagine it will be basically slow if they give Dolphin Dipper. Otherwise it might seem silly fast when used in land games. Unless they give it two speeds of course. One wet and one dry as it were. ;)

I'm assuming it will have the same PA as the Zeno. Probably with the Redoubtable MAR if it's the only weapon. For other bits I actually hope it works the way the KoB Vanguard should have worked. Ramming and ripping thru almost any size target. Regardless, I'll be happy as long as it's not an Ika clone with super-robo boarding.

The one your looking for is Semi-Aquatic :)

SEMIAQUATIC
This model can move on Land and in Water. If moving on Land reduce its Movement (Mv) by HALF. Apply any reduction for moving on Land before making any other adjustment to the model’s Movement. If a model with the Amphibious Model Assigned Rule is on Land, if relevant ignore any Model Assigned Rule or ability related to the Submerged Height Level

those 7AD PAs aren't worth it.

That's not what my poor, dead frenchmen say. On a 6x4 I suspect they'll be less effective, but on a 4x4 they're rather nice. I guess if it's really Large and 1 per squad it will be more though, though I don't know if as much as a batship?

Someone actually used the Zenos? madness.

Mhm. And constantly gets good results with them. To the point where they prefer them over a sky fortress (although that has a lot to do with the usual enemy being french admittedly). Heck, even when I use them, and my rolls tend to be abysmal, they did admirably, and most importantly, absorbed inordinate amounts of enemy firepower.

Hmmm. I wonder if you can teleport a submerged model? Would certainly reduce the need for a lucky STAR card or very cautious placement. But I really doubt it has a 12AD PA.

Okay. I actually really hope it doesn't. :)

It would almost certainly mean that the ramming ability would be weaker than I'd like to see. I want something that can ram a battleship (would it be excessive to say DN?) and have a really good chance of doing damage. Or did I miss a memo and they've said that it does boarding? :(

So the stat card is up!

This thing looks to be a very serious boarding threat and huge RB1 boost. I wish it had dolphin dipper instead of Sturginium boost, but it still has pretty decent movement.

Submerged combined with the cloud generator is a bit odd, but a big plus.

I will definitely get a couple for the fleet!

Anybody else notice that it just has the High Angle MAR, with no weapon specified?  Does that mean it can fire it's Particle Accelerator at flying models in RB1?

At present, no. Just the Maw Gun.

....but of you look on the Playtest Thread there is a hint of changes that might be afoot later down the line.... ...

(disclaimer! my comments below come from playing 750 point games almost exclusively, so I have a limited view)

It seems kind of expensive for a very limited, specialist unit imho. It's points cost is Epicurus/Aristotle territory, but without the flexibility.

With that said though I don't have a lot of experience with boarding, so it may be better than I realise.

(p.s; airborne dreadnought with a PA please. :))

I think it is interesting that the arronax and the frensels provide the COA with some bit in new ranges. Generall I find them a very good RB2 and 3 force but RB1 is always tense due to boarding and everyone elses firepower catching up and RB4 does not feature as much as no one takes energy turrets.

Now we have an arronax to cause havoc at RB1 and a cruiser to make energy turrets appealing.

According to the Stat card released by Spartan the High Angle MAR applies to all weapons, as none is indicated by the card. (Unless they changed the card in the last 12 hours...)

EDIT: forgot about the height limit on the PA... oh well...
