As to the destroyers, they still utterly bemuse me. - Okay, they can't be targetted above 20", but it takes a lot of dice to hit the cruisers over 20" since all hits get re-rolled....

They loose 1 DR, (so easier to damage closeup) and have P/S torps... which is really useful if you're in the middle of their fleet... where you are most vulnerable...

The 13AD of torps is nice, but then the 12 dice of 3 cruisers is nice too... and are more resilient...

Same story on beams too...

I'd like to use them, and just run them along an edge lobbing lots of torps whilst the attrition/tryanny/anything slow down the rest but I'd feel like I was only getting half their worth :(

If I only had 170-180 points to spend I think I may still drop 1 tyranny and pick up 3 cruisers instead of two destoyers :(

if the destroyer had ambush and was mainly beams it would add something different to the fleet...

Similarly, if the battle cruisers was mostly beams... or a bigger version of the cruisers... No AP, but beam/torp heavy (double torps? bio beams?)

So with these all WR models are available right?

Any chance of seeing the existing models upgraded to pure resin too any time soon?

The pewter shields are quite annoying.

Love the look of the new models though <3

They all look so awesome!!!

If only I could see how to use them effectively :(

The battle cruisers as a pair almost works... just because you can probably shunt one of them out before giving up all the BL points unlike the attrition.

But taking just 1 plus escort(s) just doesn't seem as good as either 3 interdictors or 1 attrition.

Seriously,

1 BC + Bio torps, Second Assault

2 Tyrannies + 2AP

(195)

vs

1 Attrition

Second assault

+2AP

Special Forces

Bio Torps

(195)

A couple of AD in it for range and a little better against difficult target/elusive vs harder to kill (DR 5 vs 6, HP 6 vs 7) better boarding, more torps, more mines, more PD, more crew...

Wow, the destroyers look amazing at that angle. Going to be picking up a pack of each, even though destroyers generally aren't my style in games.

What's the opinion on the Oppressor now?

It has difficult target and stealth now, and can take +3 wings (did it have this before?). The Attrition is still a lot cheaper and has the 6 wings naturally. Is it worth paying for the two targets and more damage on weapons?

Sadly, Works Raptor all by itself in that obscene position will have a lot of trouble.  I really wouldn't play that game.  If your opponent absolutely has to use their dreadnought, up the MFV to at least 1000 points.  And then you will want to bring some allies.  Nemesis destroyers are wonderful at blasting escorts into vapor, and Annihilation gunships can cause a lot of damage and potentially disorder, and lay some mines, before they get destroyed.  This can give you a dread with no escorts, none of its own wings, and some damage, which leaves it ripe for your torpedo volleys and Attrition assault/bomb/murderfest.

But seriously,  a dread a 801 points in any matchup is just kind of, well, not a very nice thing to try and do.  That is effectively a patrol fleet, where dreads have no place.  However it turns out, good luck and have fun.

Soooo....

Any advice on facing an aquan dreadnought at 801 points?

(I'm thinking hit everything else, then run away very quickly!)

I wouldn't play at 801. I did that once and it's really stupid idea, especially with one Tier 3 choice for 25 points per ship. I would probably just go for 2x2 and merge them together as this very specific situation. I still haven't played WR, but at 800 points I have prepared a list with Attrition with Tyrannies, Nullifier squadron, Interdictor squadron and Tyranny squadron.

And yes, I would just spam torps at the rest of his army and keep running away.

Yeah, it was part of an escalation league my local club was running, the reason 801 was done was precisely to allow people to field something big for two of the weeks (500, 650, 801, 1000 games + some giant game at the end)...

Both my opponent and I couldn't make it in the end anyway, so I have no idea if I would have faced the medusa/kraken or not!

This week is 1000, and I up against sorylians... planning on trying 2xBC, 4xCM, 2xDD, 8xFF... all set up for Bio rather than corrosive (silly engineers and weapon shielding)

Lets see how this goes!

I am painting my WR fleet right now and I started to think about how to play against each faction and found out I have a bit of trouble figuring how to play against Relthoza - trying to keep the distance open for few turns and hope torps do something and then go in aggressively? As stealth and huge amounts of SRS pretty much negates the torpedo advantage and they outgun WR in the close fight I have my doubts.

Biohazard is a better option, just try to stay >16" away from them.  That's where the pain starts against Sorylians, especially against WR.  Scatter weapons are just brutal against WR.  But if you manage to stay at range you can avoid the worst of it.  I also advise, more than normal, to focus fire, especially on whichever squadron is closest to you.  Bring the Drives to Maximum TAC, as you'll need every bit of speed you can get.  Other than that, circle the edge, use terrain, torpedo them with impunity, and good luck!

Yep, also feeling Oppressors are a very strange breed. They would be great but for the Attrition. In battle and grand fleets they have their uses and I would gladly take them, but in a patrol fleet they are really strange. From experience with Deterrent I know that running a solo BC without any accompaniment is a bad idea, but Oppressor is just too expensive with it to be a viable choice.

Oppressor with two Tyrannies 170 points without upgrades

Oppressor with Interdictor 185 points without upgrades

Attrition with 6 Wings 190 points and doing much better job than the above. I think Oppressor really struggles not because it is bad, but because it is designed as a smaller Attrition instead of being designed as a larger Interdictor/Nullifier or even something completely different. With Attrition being more viable in most situations it is being sidetracked. If WR are really mostly designed to be taken as allies then when you decide with Directorate to take some allies you want to take the best for the points and Attrition is great for the points where Deterrents are much better than Oppressors and are cheaper.

Can't wait for the Battlecruiser models, been looking forward to them for Agies. ^_^

Guess I bypassed the Reputation? as think it looks quite decent, prefer to play with the model on the table really.. Works Raptor is one of my favourite fleets too. :)

Spartan Alex

Yet again your post was extremely helpful.  I appreciate your insight on a model that like others I have not seen the proper place for.  It will definitely finds its way into my smaller Works Raptor Fleet.
