Historically Battle Cruisers were always slightly less well armed than Battleships.

That is historical at best.

The point of a Battle Cruiser is to have a faster version of a Battleship, so great firepower but slightly less defense (just above a heavy cruiser)

To be honest the Aquan Battleships are more like Battle Cruisers

Honestly, if you started with the Mk II carrier, as has been suggested, and tack on a half decent turret, I'd run that! Give it 1/6 2/8 3/5 4/4 and you'd have a credible ship. 2 SH would leave it a touch vulnerable, but not insurmountably so. Frankly, I'd use ti to run down squads of enemy cruisers, and maybe link up the turret to try and add a tick or two on their larges. Add a CR to teh carrier, and I`d pay 120 pts for it. Maybe 135 or so.

You know - statwise - I think a good baseline BC would something along the lines of the Directorate Overseer Fleet carrier. Looking at its stats it's 110 points for a forward gun of 7/11/5 with 5 torps and has DR 5/ CR9.

If you were to tweak those stats (for each race where appropriate) and lose the fighter bays for probably slightly increased damage then I think you'd be spot on.

Let's say....this:

Directorate Punisher Class BC

Forward guns 7/12/6/2

Starboard/Port 5/8/4/2

Torps (Stb./Port) 5/5/5/5

DR 6, CR 9, Mv 7", HP 6, CP3, AP5, PD5, MN 0

Cost 125

Aquan Prime Swordfish Class BC

Forward Guns 6/8/3

Aft Guns 6/8/3

Starboard/Port 8/10/5

Torps (All) 5/5/6/6

DR 6, CR 9, Mv 9", HP 7, CP5, AP3, PD6, MN 5

Cost 175

Squadron Size 1-2

Large Capital Ship

Can only be squadroned with other BC class ships.

Thoughts? I know that they have not made Lage Ships squadron capable but a BC is the type of ship that hunts in packs. I also understand that Spartan has yet to make many (if any) ships with an odd HP value but once again a BC is slightly stronger than a carrier.

I really don't like the idea of squadroning up the BCs. It's a light battleship, not a heavier gunship.

I like the Directorate BC, can see that getting a lot of use, and myself getting annoyed as it ran after my cruiser squads. For the aquans, drop it down to 140, and lose the squadron option and I think you'd have a pretty solid ship. Not that the Aquans need more large ship options. :P

Terran Poseidon class battlecruiser:

Starboard/Port: 6/8/4/2

Fore (Fixed): 6/7/5/4

Turrets: 8/10/4/2

Torpedoes (any arc): 3/4/5/6

DR 5/ CR 8/ Mv 8"/HP 8/ CP 4/ AP 4/ PD 5/ MN 4

Shields 2

Fleet Tactics +2

Command Distance 6"

Sector Shielding

Large Capital Class

Squadron Size 1

140 Points

Based on a smaller version of the Apollo class hull, the Poseidon class battlecruisers were designed for idenpendent cruiser warfare far away from their home ports. To fullfil their roles perfectly, the battlecruisers were outfitted with mine laying capabilities, strong shields and above cruiser-level point defense systems. Provisions and supplies are designed to last for month in deep space, although Poseidons are nown to board enemy freighters and scavenge them for resources. The design features a basic weapon layout similiar to the Templar class heavy cruisers, but adds several battleship-sized turrets. If deployed in proper battle against major fleet elements, the Poseidons usually act as cruiser-killers, staying away from the much more resilient battleships. Battlecruisers of the Poseidon class also receive additional protection in line-combat from escort ships to protect these valuable from torpedo attacks and boarding parties.

Considering Aquans do not get access to a Gunship unless they get one from a diffrent race it seems legit. Also Aquans have really EXPENSIVE large ships so this is a cheaper option and gives them just as much punch as they would get from a normal BB.

Lysenis, you could give that Aquan BC of yours rating 2 Shields and it would still price out at 155 points. A good ship as long as you don't take up Spartan's Destroyer-style pricing methods. :P

I built it off the top of my head. If these pricing methods are wrong how are Aquan BB class ship so damn expensive?

Dual broadsides once you get past 12 AD is seriously expensive! Plus guns in all 4 arcs will add up quickly as well, then there's the mines and the all-arc multiplier for the torpedoes. Hence why the Aquan ships cost so much and also why the Sorylian BB is pricey too. Dindrenzi get by cheap with only the one big fore gun and turret racks. Terrans and Directorate save the point cost by linking two sets of lower power guns.

Cheapskates. . . I still love the Squadron idea for BC class ships. in most all cases they will be more expensive than ANY other BB or Dread BUT they can soak up more firepower and have more escorts since each one can have its own set. I know the RSN would just LOVE that . . . stupid sirens. . .

I LOVE IT! Your hired. You did that fast.

I think the design and logo fits perfectly with the background fluff. Also with reasonable skill, one could paint the design on their ships.

Job well done. Thank you.

The basic logo seems to be three capital " Ts " nailed together at the foot. I would have been tempted to try an " H ".

I know next to nothing about the Firestorm fluff. There are 8 or 10 star-nation factions which have official insignia? ...but there are also corporations which are not provided with logos? Do the corporations sell equipment to multiple factions or is each bound to a specific faction?

play-style wise they look to be moving along the line of "close as fast as you can on the enemy shooting whatever you can, and let the broadsides + turrets take care of the rest at RB2." Pretty boring overall in terms of tactics, unless more ships with varied stats are released. Might be a good addition for fleets that don't have some punchy ships.

I was thinking of adding them to my Sorylians for some weighty AD outside of broadsides when I close to board incase the opponent strips past and flanks... I think they plug my weakness nicely...

That would probably work alright. One problem I see is that they need to be rather close to the enemy and can't really shoot much better in arcs that Sorylians can't already, but would certainly add some nice character to the fleet and new looks.

Also the low PD kinda stinks unless Spartan gives some new stats to the ships
