Wolfgang Jannesen Posted January 24, 2018 Report Share Posted January 24, 2018 Work has started on the gaming table! This thing's playing surface is roughly 50" x 78", I've just primed it black. Because its got a leaf I can't do my original plan of covering it in a thick layer of clearcoat mastic, but instead I'll be using several layers of a clear topcoat over acrylic paints. Will be updating with pictures of the galaxy and planet as we progress through it EDIT: Having trouble uploading pictures, I'll create an album once we have some more shots of the nebula forming and link it here. I am not an artist in the traditional sense, my wife did the planet and I pretty well spent my day off splashing colours on. Just need some cleanup and topcoat! Having a hell of a time finding anyone to play against in the meantime though. I picked up a Relthoza dread and cruiser box and two squads of frigate from my FLGS (nobody in my town played spiders I guess, it was a breeze finding everything) Then I just put out a call in local groups asking if anyone was looking for a space game to get into and make terrain for, offered the guy that responded first the fleet if he liked a trial game. If I'm real lucky, it'll turn out alright this weekend (where that table FINALLY SEES SOME USE!) EDIT: DESTROYERS ARE HERE! Finally something to work on! Wolfgang Jannesen Posted March 4, 2018 Report Share Posted March 4, 2018 In the works I've got two more cruisers, two more heavy cruisers, three destroyers and a dreadnought + escorts. I'm not setting myself a time challenge but I've been developing techniques and practicing with the ships I've done so far, and my challenge is just to paint my dreadnought and its escorts in a way that is clearly several notches above where I started with the fleet. Sort of like a new years resolution kind of thing. I'll be posting pictures of the Battleship + Heavy Cruiser, Carrier + Cruisers and a Cruiser squadron once they're done, then I'll start work on the dread. Would like to say I didn't have the time, but I'm just lazy! Scavenger Platform Had to drill a hole in the hull a bit, otherwise it's massively off-centre. Deliverance Ark Bit of a failed experiment here. Tried to go for a stone look here, but to get a decent coverage with Citadel's Roughcoat, you need lots of layers, almost to the point of loosing detail. Also tried to pre-shade with black after the Roughcoat, but it lessened the stone effect, and to get it back I ended up re-spraying again with Roughcoat, only to loose the black to get coverage back with that. And green effect for Overseers. Original, eh? A strip and re-do I think... Reagent Extra Panels One of the vanes is a Milliput cast as I was one short. Had to file one side down as it came out way to thick. Now if WC can make an add-on that changes the front of it.... Now to get my arse in gear and paint the Hulaka.
