What will new PF bring us?

Recommended Posts

It's good to hear WC mention PF as much as FA, even though I'm pretty sure PF will be last in line to get any new releases. I'm just hoping no scale changes here. If they kept the scale of armored clash they would have a happy customer. With the scale change there now I will have to really like the rules and measure that with how annoyed I am I have to use proxies or how many models will no longer be usable. Please please please no scale change with PF.

Just as an insight. Growing up I cut my teeth on playing Laserburn and its sibling Imperial Commander. I absolutely loved those games and the scale of battles we fought.  Do not fear, we are not going to be changing the scale but just wanted to let you know that this scale of scifi gaming is a love of ours. We hope to make the narrative in the Firestorm universe more interesting and stronger too. More news on that after Christmas though.

Great to hear PF is in the stable to stay. Started on FSA but when PF hit thats what I enjoyed the most. Always hoped it would expand out to have multiple missions to play...Dare I mention like Flames of War. Just so there was a variety to the games. It was always aimed at the initial landing assault but did not translate well to the battles that follow to subdue an enemy planet. Seemed silly for the last dogged defenders of a besieged planet to skydrop in half their forces on what was supposed to be a last desperate defense to hold for reinforcements. Hopefully we can have the FSA and PF gel together to allow for a good space/terrestrial campaign with out having to comprimise how one or the other plays....... Just the musings of a Directorate corporate drone ....

Some helix need more distinctive ability from faction to faction...exemple all assault helix! FLAVOR and originiality please.

Daydreaming maybe

Well, part of the reasont hat it was always a drop in, was that Planetfall was always supposed to be just that, the inital invasion of a world.  Spartan had planned to do THREE ground games!  (Anyone surprised?  Anyone at all...?) with Planetfall being hte most epic in scale.  There was supposed to be a 15mm one for the other battles, sweeping in to more fortified areas, but more spread out, adn a 28mm versionb for squad level stuff, like a Special Ops kind of deal.

Planetfall has endured in my gaming group and we still play it a lot. Since the beginning I absolutely fell in love with the scale and models. I don't think the games needs much, except for a clearer rulebook, tweaks to terrain and scenarios. Of course some units and cards need rebalancing, but from what I could find about the test rules, the proposed changes looked pretty good.

I really hope the models become availible again soon, because right now we just can't grow the playerbase here.

If you listen to the Warcradle guys on their Podcast interviews, we can expect some significant model re-designs. :(

I haven't heard of any podcasts. What's the news, aesthetics only? Do they plan on making current models useless? My gaming group loves PF, but it's been hit hard enough with Armoured Clash scale change. I don't think invalidating everyone's PF collection would make them, or I happy.

Nowhere have we said that about Planetfall, nowhere.  We are focussing on Dystopian Wars first. We do have work ongoing in the Firestorm universe, but it isn't far enough along to reveal anything concrete yet.

The only conversations we've had in interviews about Planetfall was about the disconnect between since of the narrative with Armada and the ground combat and how (in my opinion) some of the land units were not my favourite. I've singled the Sorellian dinosaurs and the Dindrenzi command saucer.

We haven't even begun to seriously look at the range so there's no basis for worries about scale changes or the range being redesigned - neither of those things are under discussion at all.

All is well.

Considering that Dystopian isn't scheduled into the latter half of this year I think Planetfall is indeed looking at years before its back on the market. Even the firestorm space game fans are not expecting anything until 2019. Whilst we'd all love to see it all back on sale the nature of the shutdown of Spartan Games means that Warcradle is pretty much having to rebuild everything from the ground up - new site, factory etc... Even then it will take time to get up to steam once they are in full production.

If things run smooth and release are strong and everything goes as planned and well WC could potentially push out Planetfall end of 2019 possibly, maybe. A lot depends on investment too. Moulds are expensive as is all the work that goes into preparing a game for release. We need a strong Dystopian, Wild Wild West, Firestorm Armada etc.. releases to give WC more resources and reason to invest continually in further games.

Exactly. Though I do understand and its great to see the eagerness of the existing fanbase, We all have to keep in mind that war cradle is building this up from the ground, and the form of Spartans shut down, or rather how it was shut down, is making this harder. I rather have one game done after each other and with due resources and investment, then having the Spartan thing with all at once and too much to reasonably support and maintain the games and the company.

Patience will be key. It Will also not help anyone to spread unfounded rumors, souring the existing fanbase further.

"The Hubsystems Podcast" Episode 35, has some very interesting talk about the Dindrenzi Saucer, the Sorylian Leviathan, other Sorylian Suits, the Relthoza Dragonfly, Drones and Power suits and more gems.  Some solid talk about the look of FSA models  too. Definitely worth a listen.

Changes of some sort are to be expected, if I took over the game there would be changes/updates etc. Don't forget how many times Spartan changed the look of FSA models.

we are assured the scale will be maintained and old models will be compatible which is awesome. If the new models are great I will buy and paint them.

I was the one in that interview. Certainly, no scale change or anything like that is being discussed. We are quite a way off from a relaunch though so plenty of time to get games in with the current rules.
