3rd Edition Pathogen rules

On a more serious note, I'm actually tempted to see how aggressive (and weird) they're willing to be with the Pathogen rules.  If I were in charge (lol), I'd be looking to make them a true outlier faction.  Need CP?  Eat a ship.  Need to restock SRS?  Eat a ship.  Not near enemy ships?  Eat your own.

Probably not the tack they're taking, but I can think of all sorts of interesting possibilities.

Ah, the wishful thinking thread. I was hoping SG had released a preview of the rules

It has already been hinted that Pathogen will be splitting the "Pure" from the "Captured "

 

I really can't see how that works. Can "Pure" still capture? I hope so.

I thought pathogen were going to be in the next 'big box' starter set kind of thing. If that's true shouldn't they be less weird so that prospective new players get to experience and learn the core of the game first before hitting the weird outliers?

No, I didn't think it was you.  But you know...pathogen.  It's all amorphous and hard to really tell what's going on there.   But, someone did, and I figured this was the place to apologize since I'm not entirely sure what username to PM otherwise.

I'm hoping to get some pathogen info out soon.  There are a few things I have to check on to make sure I don't get myself into more trouble.  At least, not more than I might already be in. :)

The discussion regarding this took place on one of the Facebook pages, and not here on the forums. There is indeed nothing wrong with a bit of humor, but apparently some people have to pull everything out of context. Having a Spartan tag next to your name also comes with a target on your chest it seems :(

Anyway, let's get back to coaxing more Pathogen intel out of @Spartan_FA_Mike, so we can plan our defenses accordingly and in a timely fashion :)

So here's the thing about pathogen...some of it is still classified.   Not joking on this one, there is some pathogen info out there I don't think I can release yet.  I am trying to get more info though...it's a pain dealing with time zones, who's idea was that?

I can share some of the relevant MARs that show up on pathogen ships.  The Infection entry is the only one unique to Pathogen.

  • Regeneration (Value) If a model with this MAR does is not affected by a Defences Offline Game Effect. The model with the MAR must roll a [BLACK] D6: if the result is equal to or higher than the Value listed in the brackets, the model may restore a single lost Hull Point AND remove a single ongoing Effect Marker at the beginning of its Activation. 
  • Defensible (Value) When defending against a Boarding Assault, this model may increase its Defensive Pool by the Value listed in the brackets. 
  • Frenzied Assault Forces All Boarding initiated by a model with the Frenzied Assault Forces must re-roll any failed Initial dice rolls. Unlike other Boarding Actions, Boarding Actions using this MAR treat all Seamless Operation Results on the Boarding Results Table as a Hard Victory result instead.
  • Biohazard– Coherence Effect If ALL Weapons contributing to an Attack have Biohazard, and the number of hits equals or exceeds the Damage Rating (DR) of the target model, the target model loses 1 Crew Point, in addition to any other effects. If the model cannot take a point of Crew Loss because it has 0 CP remaining, apply a Disorder Marker instead. 
  • Infection – Coherency Effect All Infection Weapons are considered to be Indirect Weapons and are subject to Defensive Fire responses (see PAGEXXX). Infection Weapons may only be fired in conjunction with other Infection Weapon and so may not perform any firing solutions with other weapons. In addition, Infection weapons ignore enemy Shield and Cloaking Systems.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless pathogen get shields in this edition, will they always be able to regenerate? The defenses overloaded crit would only put a disorder on them, as they do not have shields.

They will probably have the Regenerate MAR as standard.  I've not gone through their stat blocks yet, but this would be thematic for them.

There is the Specialist(Boarding) MAR that reduces the cost of the action by one.  Again, probably standard, but not there yet, blah blah blah.

So, I did seriously think about pinging this thread just to get @Pathogen's hopes up, but I'll be nice and drop some more info:

After much deliberation, we've decided to add another Persistent Marker to the lot.  One of the goals that we had for 3rd Edition was to reduce the number of markers.  However, knowing the special place that pathogen holds in our hearts, we've decided to add just one more back in.  If an Infection weapon causes a critical hit, the model will also gain an Infection marker.  At the end of the round (during the 'Rationalize Game Markers' step), a model will lose 1 HP and 1 CP for each marker present.  The ship is being assimilated, and the crew are becoming hosts.  It's just...ugh.  Shoot the crew to put them out of their misery kind of thing.

The ships are...interesting.  I'll leave those to Spartan Neil for divulging. :)

Regenerate only does one HP.  If there were a case of Self-Repair with Regen, I would rule that they would both repair 1 HP each.  But, I'm not aware of any ship that has both MARs.

The Pathogen give me the creeps:wacko:. They remind me alot of the Flood too. Though the above pictures look rather like flying bugs. If the infection marker works like the old corrosive, It will really scary. You know what, their frightening no matter how you slice it!

There is is only one solution to dealing with such frightening Creeps! NUCLEAR FIREPOWER!

On a serious note do ships that have been infected join the opposing fleet if they are defeated?
