Mezen Gun Corvette

How do you ask feel about this boat? How would you run it? What would you pair it with? 

 

love the look and stats. I have 4 of them, but wish I had more. Not sure where they fit in for me yet, possibly alongside my Rostovs.

I think they are very good. Only 20 points for a 5/4 gun corvette! They are a little bit slow but if used in combination with the RC Commodore trait (garantued Sturginium boost) they are fast enough. I use them against small/medium squadrons, trying to destroy a unit with the guns and board the rest.

And because it is only 100 points for a full squadron they can fit in any list.

I was at work, so I've only just had the chance to reply.

I really like the Mezen gun corvette (which is a good thing, as the box I'm getting comes with 2 squadrons).

I have only used it during beta-testing, so have yet to give them a "proper" battle. However, they work well in tandem with the Rostov destroyer and/or the Kazimov assault corvette

One thing to remember about Russian smalls at the moment is that they generally do not have the speed to form your forward line and take out the enemy light units ahead of the main battle line. Instead, they're designed to guard the flanks of the battle line, or provide specialist support (eg, the Rostov is a sniper, the Kazimov a suicide boarding unit).

The way I see it, the Mezen finally gives the Russians a skirmisher, a true front rank unit that can mix it up against enemy smalls. Run it forward, looking for frigates and corvettes to interdict early, or targets of opportunity from the rest of the enemy Fleet. But remember to keep a squad of Nikels or Novgorods back with the main force, as a response team in case something gets through your skirmish screen.

It seems to be a very efficient model especially for the 20pt price tag on it. Plus i kind of like how it looks too
