Recently (christmas) I received a Coeus as a gift from my kids.

I have not had a chance to use it yet has anyone any good tips on a best way to do this (and do I require my opponents permission to use it)

The Coeus is one of the more balanced dreadbots. It is very powerful, especially if your opponent is not so hot in the movement phase, but is also a huge chunk of points that will heavily impact your fleet design. You dont need your opponents permission, but it would probably be a good thing to ask first.

As for using it, its monster PA is an unequalled weapon of mass destruction against small and medium squads. It is not, however, an anti-large weapon (though in a pinch it can do a little damage). 14 PA dice = approx 8 hits on average. 10 should get you 6.

It brings a trio of rockets that can hunt anything they want.

It will cause much destruction to anything it manages to catch in robot boarding.

However;

It is slow. Very slow. You should never be able to catch anything in its claws.

I have used the Coeus twice, once at 1000 points and once at 1250. (Both test games). Each time it wrecked havoc, but I lost both games. For the CoA fleet of specialists, where we need a mix of ships to cover all the roles needed in a battle, it eats up far too many points in a small (less than 1500) game to allow us to take the choices we need.

If your opponent favours medium or small heavy fleets, the Coeus will destroy them. If they favour large heavy builds, the Coeus will not be be effective. Is the table is dense with terrain, the Coeus will struggle. If your opponent knows how to play against particle accerators, the Coeus will struggle. If your opponent is not experienced against PAs, then they may scream OP!

I love the model, but doubt I'll ever get one as I've found other fleets' dreadbots too much to handle n kill the fun below 2000 it becomes all about the bot.

I have a friend who plays RoF and at 1500 will shamelessly float his Dread and Madame Liberty! It means to win on objective u usually need to take out both or destroy everything else = very easy for him to dictate play n protect vital resources.

Good luck w the Coeus, just pls don't be a dread-****.

I only intent to use in games where either it has been agreed to be able to use it or against opponents who also have one.

I used it against the KoB a few weeks ago where it was ignored I used it mostly on his air force (only thing I don't have for CoA yet).

This game ended when their dreadnought had a sturginium flair into a land mass....

Other than that it was a good game
