Ares accompaniment

Recommended Posts

Happy 2017, fellow Terran commanders!

Been considering my next expansions, and it strikes me that the perfect support for an Ares would be a couple of Wraith-class gunships. Tougher than a Teuton or Aegis, they also have 5 PD and some serious AD punch...but am I right in thinking we can't take them as escorts? (Alliance of Kurak = OK, mercs = not)

Sadly, that kind of thing isn't allowed by the Ares rules, which state:

0-3 Alliance of Kurak Escorts

This is referring to 'Escort' ships, as well as 'Alliance of Kurak' ships. Syndicate Wraiths are 'Maurader & Mercenary' 'Gunships'  are neither.  (p. 32)

On page 2 it says:

The STL are also Natural  Allies with the  Terran Alliance, and up to 50% of  your Maximum Fleet  Value (rounded down) in a Terran Alliance fleet may be spent on STL Syndicate or STL Traders models.

With them being natural allies is this a 'loophole' to include terran only TAC?

was wondering on that part for some time

On the plus side (M&M p. 8), "A Terran Fleet may take up to 50% STL models" so it's pretty easy to squeeze them in.  You have to sacrifice Kurak Alliance and Terran TACs though.

Yeah I saw that but thanks man. A shame as the Wraith look like perfect escort ships...

On a related topic, is it only escort-class models that combine PD fire, whereas a capital accompaniment (ie Teuton) links PD, correct?
