A new model is coming - help develop it!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I pledged the top tier and I have a pretty good idea of what I want to have made, definitely one of Her Majesties ships, but if you have your thinking pith helmets nearby perhaps you can help me round it out?

Thought's so far: Our Air Armada is somewhat lacking, let's change that.

Large Flying model, hybrid appearance between the Eagle and Illustrious, gun layout similar to the historical HMS Dreadnought (one fore, two after, two wing turrets) using the larger turrets from the heavy battleship, downward firing torpedo battery (rocket powered torpedo's effective against other flying vehicles in RB1 but not surface vessels, then regular torpedoes in further range bands?) No secondary weapons, faster and more agile than the average large and a massive chainsaw front and keel that makes the Vengeance sub envious.

Play style - Can sit back and torpedo / shoot things somewhat akin to the old-style Hood, only larger, or can run around the board cackling madly as it rips things apart at close range.

Weaknesses - Not secondary weapons so more vulnerable to SAS / aerial smalls, main turret layout means you can never focus all fire at a single target.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions?

PS: Hope this sort of discussion is ok with the mods!

Ideas so far:

-Large Aerial flyer (my idea)

DW1.png

-Large Submarine (unknown kind ??)

-Small boarding/assault aerial rotor

DW2.png

-Large AA submarine

DW3.png

-Medium sub carrier (??)

-Large Aerial/Sub (??) repair vessel

-Knights Templar unit (??)

Heres one I suggested on the pledge thread, more than willing to let you rip it apart

These smaller agile craft have been developed after successes in Hawk assaults on key battlefield targets in Belgium to provide a key assault asset to the air Armada of smaller Rotorcraft able to bring in Highlander marines close to the enemy.  Using their speed and ability to drop in fast, they jump on vulnerable targets to unleash flashbangs that disorientate the enemy before the Marines strike.

Designed to resemble a steampunk version of helicopter troop carriers, with slightly larger wings to evoke the hawk.  One central prop using the Halifax/Illustrious version.

3/4 2HP.  12 inches speed, 360 degree move.  AP2 reckless, with terror tactics 1.  I imagine either a 4 dice mine or 3 dice of bombs each.

The aerial dreadnought I do not like.  With six turrets it would have to be priced way to high and that won't fix our problem of a mainstay aerial large.  Plus the rocket/torpedo weapon is just over complicated and clunky.

The small aerial boarder idea I can easily get behind.  A nice fast boarding unit that can go in right after the Merlins pop the targets escorts/CAP would be great.  Your stats look pretty good as is.

Operation Sirocco had a unique AA submarine operating in the Mediterranean and I have always thought that would cool.  Large sub, 6/8 8HP 8MV.  Torpedoes slightly below the Vengeance.  One or two volley guns and 8AA with Heavy Ack-Ack.  If you really want to make it a recon hunter/killer remove the torpedoes to make room for carrier points or small boarding subs.  Give it Evasive -2 to simulate that it really is a pop-up killer.  No ramming abilities and minimum AP.  A Sonar Painter would help.  Aerial Hunter would be nice but I would rather do without and have it be a few points cheaper.

Ok, so here are the ideas presented so far that I think we could work on, my idea would be to develop approximate rules for each (feedback and comments appreciated) to better evaluate what we want to see, and also so that if someone else does the top pledge and wants to make a Britannian model they could use the ideas here as a basis if they wanted to (heck, maybe even Spartan will appropriate a few).

I will update the top post with ideas and rules as we go, units with '??' in them are ideas without enough information for me to start drafting rules, so far we have:

-Large Aerial flyer (my idea)

-Large Submarine (unknown kind ??)

-Small boarding/assault aerial rotor

-Large AA submarine

-Medium sub carrier

-Large Aerial/Sub(??) repair vessel

-Knights Templar unit(??)

Here is my large sub idea

The Victory class Submerged Carrier

An Awesome flagship meant to maintain Britannia's rule under the sea, evoking Nelsonian bravery.  A vast support vessel meant to act as the heart of any Kingdom raiding submarine packs by offering both a fierce firepower and key targeting abilities in the battlefield, and refuelling to long range patrols.

Forward Torpedo battery and ram comparable to the vengeance.  12/8 10HP.  Side torpedoes and a high angled rocket attack with aerial hunters and piercing to represent a support battery of Congreve Sidewinders to take out floating foes.  24inch sonar gen.  A support squadron of Valiants or a smaller class based on the Tasmania support submarine. 6 carrier points.  However limited AP and Fuel reserves.

15 minutes ago, Veldrain said:

Drachinifel: One thing you may want to email Spartan about is if Massive models are viable with this pledge.  They have repeatedly only mentioned large and smaller so that would generally rule out carrier models.

Will do, but I think the existence of things like the Australian sub-mothership probably mean some form of carrier can fit into the KS catagories. I agree though that a carrier of some description with any kind of significant firepower would probably be pushing the edge of the 'large' and into 'massive' envelope.

I would like to have the VENTURE CLASS SUBMARINE ATTACK CARRIER a medium capital submarine carrier (3) in squads of 1-3, torpedoes to the front (like Vanguard) chainsaw on top, re-enforced bulkheads, DR5 CR6 HP5 IR6, MV 9", AP4 aggressive crew, aquatic assault, Hullbreaker (Ramming +1) and attachment naval 1. Fuel reserves and SV25. 80-100 points. Carrier actions only when surfaced.
