Xelocian potential tourney list and tactical advice

Recommended Posts

I have posted this in the xelocian forums but find it is often inactive so posting here too as, judging by my two complete tablings, I need some real help

Right, well I need some tactical advice for my xelocians, just tried a couple of 1000 pts lists for tourney against bakash. Went very top heavy the cruiser heavy, got tabled twice.

My list 1

Dread, corrosive, +1shield, 3 interceptors

BB, corrosive, +1 shield +3 wings, 3 interceptors

4 cruisers with corrosive

3 frigates

2 frigates

List 2

Dread, corrosive, +1 shield, 4 interceptors

4 cruisers with corrosive

3 cruisers with corrosive

3 frigates

2 frigates

His list both times was

Battlecarrier, extra wings, weapon shielding, second assault, 3 interceptors, 6 fighters

3 cruisers

3 cruisers

3 heavy cruiser

3 frigates

3 frigates

So waaay more activations, and those bakash cruisers are nuts, 55pts for all that seems unfair lol.

Any general advice would be appreciated

I have a full hawker patrol fleet, so battleship, cruisers and frigates.

I am not sure if marauders can ally into a support fleet, but I also have a large omnidyne fleet (don't have the new models yet but plan to soon)

I could be tempted to buy a few more models if the perfect ally appeared, I eventually hope to have a ryushi fleet too lol

Any fleet can spend 25% on Mauraders, per the Maurader rules.

Do you have any Xelocian Escorts?  Do you have 10 Frigates?  If no to both, then your stuck with taking 5 Frigates in 2 Squadrons and the Reform TAC for 100 points.

Tier 2, always take 4 Cruisers for 260-300 points.

At 800+ points, always take the Dreadnought for you Admiral, and just accept it's about 400 points.  I highly recommend +1 Shields, Corrosive, and Split Fire. This gives you 3 Shields and 2x10 AD at 10"-20".  That's a dead Cruiser.

This leaves about 100-200 to spend on Hawker or Omnidyne ships. As you have to pay a premium to bring Omnidyne, I suggest looking to Hawker.  Cruisers with Weapon Shielding are 210.  However, a 'cheap' Omnidyne Battleship could be fun too, and Omnidyne Corvettes with Torps/Arts at solid, even at 20 each.

I was the Ba'kash player..... and it was the shunting of the Heavy cruisers that really knackered things up for you mate.

Ryjak's idea of split fire on the beams and then double tapping a tier 2 is a damn good idea. Personally, I am becoming a fan of the "More boyz, less toyz" strategy, where I pack as many actual ships onto the table. You could do the following with nothing added:

Dreadnought

2 x 4 Cruisers

2 x 4 frigates

You could even drop a frigate squadron to 3 and then add a few bits to the dread (Maybe a couple of interceptors and that split fire trick)
