1250 points Black wolf vs EoTBS with 2 dreads

Recommended Posts

Had a game with a friend this weekend. He wanted to test out using the Ayakashi dreadbot with rocket launchers and Hachiman dread in a 1250 points game,  and I wanted to test out my newly acquired black wolf set.

Out list are as follows:

BW

Deathbringer Subx 1( commodore)

Deathbringer Subx1

Kaiser Karl (one careful owner)

Nemesis with shield gen x2

Manticore with dilation field x2 (plus reaper subs x12)

Fury x4

Fury x4

My opponent with Eotbs:

Ayakashi with rocket launcher and 3 kitsune escorts

Hachiman with 3 kitsune escorts,  tesla and shield gen (commodore)

3 honshu with rockets

5 fujin

4 uwatsu

Obj

Both drew the capture/kill the commodore obj

Summary

Opening battle sees the dilation field set up helps to ease the harassment a bit,  however My opponent decided to target the Manticore instead,  ripping it apart in one volley from the Ayakashi.

The black wolf could do nothing turn 1 but just turn on their kinetic generator and go full speed ahead.  The kaiser Karl took some damage but is otherwise fine.

During turn 2,  the Hachiman and Ayakashi gave the BW fleet a world of hurt as they nearly double crit the kaiser Karl if it weren't for the shield gen,  and the second Manticore was easily  destroyed.  Torpedoes from the sub doesn't do much and only managed to do 1 damage to the Ayakashi as it remains submerged.

Nemesis and fury got into range,  pounding fire at the hachiman from RB2,  scoring 4 Hp (one critical)of damage with devastating munitions.

The ayakashi retaliated,  wiping out one of the nemesis and cause the kaiser Karl a critical with weapons damage status.  Hachiman was badly damaged but managed to land a critical on one of the nemesis,  causing Chaos and Disarray status.

The deathbringer  subs begins to surface,  causing damage and destroying one Honshu,  while damaging the other.

Turn 3,  the Ayakashi initiate robot CQB on the non commodore deathbringer sub,  destroying it and multiple Critting it easily.  In a last ditch effort,  the black wolf swarm the hachiman with boarding from the Fury frigates but fail.  The nemesis tried to board it as well but fail,  and was counter boarded instead!

It was then that the kaiser Karl arrived just in time and finally managed to board the Hachiman. Securing a very narrow victory for the black wolf.

After thoughts

Deadbots are nasty..... the ayakashi especially so with rockets that do not degrade when damaged.  My opponent gave me some leeway and a chance to win by placing his commodore in the Hachiman,  I do not see how I could have win if he decided to place his commodore in the ayakashi instead.

Black wolf is an interesting faction with lots of flexibility,  but it's mediums can easily be focused down.  Devastating guns are nasty,  as expected but do degrade as they take damage. Dilation field generator is a bit hard to position, but can be quite useful when placed correctly.

Nice write up! from what I understand Dead bots are not friends of SAS dive bombers.

The double rocket attacks of the Ayakashi plus 3 kitsune escorts make it one of the deadlier Dead bots.

Glad you had a good time, as that is all that matters.

While dreadbots are weak against dive bombers,  getting them there is another issue. The dreadbots could easily crush or cripple your carriers before the dive bombers could make their drop.

This pose a serious question on whether at 1500 point and lower games,  could we really handle that dreadbots that well.  I think the most powerful dreadbots would be the Mobile Oppression Palace ( Windsor) it has powerful volley guns at close range and bombardment ( large)  devastating cannons at rb 5,  give powerful shields to units around it,  make them fearless,  has good anti boarding measure and good shield value itself, can be taken with escorts,  immune to rockets and torps,  high IR,  rugged 2,  redoubtable, Elite Ap of 18!??  Security posts 3????? All at a cost of +1 to hit. Like really now......

Good God,  whoever thought of that must really love Brittania,  as even among dreadbots there aren't a dreadbot with this power level.  The bots really need a fix and i think the sooner they get to it the better.

The power of Japanese and British dreads bot/fort make me sad, particularly compared to my more expensive but vastly inferior lady liberty.

Nice write up, looks like the black wolf got hammered hard, do you think this would have been different if he had spent those points on normal fleet options?

That is a good question. I have fought a few fleets lately and haven't had time to write it in the forums.  But the black wolf is a really interesting faction and dilation field is super important in keeping your stuff alive.

To answer your question,  it would be a close game but I think we could still win if played properly and with some good dice rolls

No,  I don't see anything that prevents you from doing that.  You can't place them in fortifications,  that's for sure.

Why wouldn't you be able to? There's a restriction that says fortifications are non-core, but they can be part of the main (as opposed to strategic) force, which is all that matters (I was just looking it over, and this is the first time I'm seeing this, so perhaps I've been missing something...)

EDIT: I was missing that they're considered to be part of your advance force. Sorry.
