Who uses Battlescribe?

Recommended Posts

I have been looking over the various Army Builders.

Army Builder from Lone Wolf costs dosh - is this worth it?

Battlescribe - less dosh - how does it compare to the above?

I have downloaded battlescribe but how often is it updated (and Army Builder for that matter) and I cant seem to find the relevant files for stats and points. An internet search goes round in endless circles.

I use Battlescribe a lot of the time. Its really easy to use.

look here for the data files:

http://battlescribedata.appspot.com/#/repos

Just look for the DW one.

As to how often its updated? No idea. If theres any edits to be done I usually do them myself (in fact I'm reworking the whole thing for myself, so everything is in the way I prefer to see it)

BS is fine but often can have errors in it. just take the time to double check the info and probably have a print out ready just in case.

its a little annoying to check points as units are displayed in total instead of individual prices. my only quip.

Usually I update as soon as any errors are noticed by others or myself and as soon as I can after a PDF release, which is easier this year than last year was due to personal/work reasons

The errors are usually me overlooking something or rushing after a new PDF release.

The points can be shown for individual and total in 1.15 is you check the option to do so in the roster view in previous builds it wasn't implemented.

There is an issue for the current edition where when you select one of the new squadrons made up of models from different sizes it has the whole squadron in the largest sized models size group. This is a known issue and can't be fixed in the current build but I haven't checked the 1.16 Alpha to see if it is fixed yet.

I could come up with a way but it will be tedious on the end user having to select attached units like you currently do for escorts and attachments, I'll leave that up to you guys to let me know if you would prefer the current way (does mess up with size points limits) or that way.

The link seems not to work. Just takes me a screen telling me to update, though i have the latest version.

Sorry, probably should have been clearer.

Go to where it says Dystopian Wars and right click on the cloud symbol beside it.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox browser, you will have an option to "Copy Link Location"

If not, just right click and select the option to "Open in New Tab" and copy the link in the search bar.

Go to Battlescribe and click on the File menu and click on the Data Repositories option.

Simply paste the link into the bar and click add.

There you have it.

I do use BattleScribe for both Dystopian Wars and Warmachine/Hordes. I find data-files for DW especially well made: the printout is quite detailed and very useful in-game.

Only complaint I have: there's no option for Esmeralda bomber plane (or it's me that was unable to locate it?)

Great program, I would like that more games were available (for instance: no Malifaux).

I use Battlescribe and rather like it. The accuracy tends to depend on who is doing the updates and how often the source material changes; it is basically a(much appreciated) labor of love for most who are updating the lists.

I have nothing good to say about Lone Wolf. Don't get me started.

I have noticed some anomalies with BS. Like the Hochmeister using the full Speerschleuder loadout still has a Tesla generator.

Hmm... I'll have a look at that tonight, I'm assuming Prussia unless it's available as a lend lease in another list and I've forgotten...

Just found a typo in PE's Metzger: Terrifyine (Boarding Only) .

Whoops thanks for pointing it out

For DW I am the main one making the data files for the "official" (ie the battlescribedata.appspot.com) repo afaik (due to only seeing 3 merge requests one of which appeared 2 minutes before I uploaded the same updates) and yeah I do have some off days, mainly when I'm zonked after a 20hr weekend at work and then class on top of that.

Thanks. I still have a few modifications to do on most of the data files the main exception being KoB (due to them being my main fleet and originally making it for myself then it got bigger and wow... Such Data, Much Responsibility, Very Tiring) to have the MARs, Generators, and Munitions descriptions in every data file unless Spartan would rather I didn't (although with absolutely everything available as a free pdf on the main site I doubt it, but would rather have confirmation I'm allowed to do it then do it and get a CnD like I did with the [Company Name Redacted] repo I hosted on my club's site which was updated the morning the latest book was released in NZ (due to my FLGS being awesome and letting me take home a preorder of the book the day it arrives rather than the actual release date.) which was usually the day before anyone in the UK and US were able to pick up the book...)

I was thinking of renaming the Valkyrie's Fury to be Valkyrie's Fury - Esmeralda but figured that would be kinda redundant unless most want me to.

For more games being available if you can't find them on the battlescribedata page try googling for them or asking one of us that maintain other repos to either make and maintain it or walk you through making one.

I know Danimrath on the firestorm forums maintains their repo I'm not sure who maintains the Dystopian Legions, Firestorm Planetfall/Taskforce or the Halo game. [The other game systems/companies I won't discuss here...]

I understand you're the one maintaining the Dystopian Wars BattleScribe files..? If so, thank you for the great job, mate :)

I try to maintain them when time permits which is why they kinda went dead for a bit last year when life hit the fan... And your welcome I mainly do them for myself but I do like it when others know of and use what I make *does little happy dance...*

hmm... I can replicate but I can't seem to get it to behave... I'll have a look at the 1.16 alpha files I'm working on and see how that works... (also once 1.16 comes out all MARs/Generators/Weapon Types etc will be in every list as it's one unified data file editor rather than one for gamesystem and one for factions YAY) and I have another theory that might work but then again it might not...

Huzza I managed to find a way to 'fix' it but it means you will have to select it when it shows up or it complains at you
