Lerriano 367 Report post Posted January 8, 2016 Fresnel and two platos, the laser light show we're all curious to loose on some fools! I'm looking at this as filling a gap for the Free Aussies, bringing to bear 16ad at all range bands, with the flexibility to handle smalls. Anyone tried this squadron yet? Lerriano 367 Report post Posted January 9, 2016 Also does it count as capital or non capital? Ignore question, obviously non-cap due to it being platos with an attachment.
Thamoz 1,086 Report post Posted January 9, 2016 I... struggle to see it as worth more than 2 Fresnels. But this is without having tried it. It might make a nice non-capital squadron for pairing with a capital squadron as allies to another fleet, but currently there are not many fleets that can bring in the CoA as an ally. Theta squadron and a time orb might complement an italian fleet quite nicely though...
Sebenko 978 Report post Posted January 9, 2016 I think it's subtly different to the standard Fresnel squadron. Pay 10 points, gain some broadsides and trade CR+Shield for some HP. I do think it has some value, mainly if you know your opponent favours a large-light list, or don't know what they'll bring. Against a fleet heavy on large models, save the 10 points and get a standard Fresnel squadron- two little broadsides won't be that useful against a battleship. Against a list heavy on smalls, 3x Platos would be a cheaper and still effective option. Against a list that is more balanced, the Theta might be handy- it can hand out a massive laser shot against something big, but won't suffer if it needs to pick off smalls. 3 rufus, projectmanhatten5 and BuckDharma reacted to this

Lerriano 367 Report post Posted January 9, 2016 It's a nice idea for a squadron, and I've got the models kicking around so I'll give it a go. 1 rufus reacted to this
rufus 406 Report post Posted January 9, 2016 I do like the Theta. It is a nice and pretty versatile squadron for ranged fire support and it is not as vulnerable against boarders as two Fresnels. Of course (as always) the Penguins have specialists that can do one thing (even) better. R
