Need help. 1000pt list

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I'm still pretty new, and I'm currently taking part in a league. We have been playing at 750 and my List has been doing ok.

I can potentially have excess to any model I'd need. So what would you think would be a solid, 1000pt all comers list?

Thanks.

Wow, not giving us a lot to go on. I'll see what I can come up with:

1000pts

Large

1x Aristotle Battleship (E-turret upgrade) 205

 + 1x Kepler Drone Launcher (Attachment) 95

Medium

3x Cleomedes Cruiser 240

2x Ptolemy Mine Layer Flyer 130

(Sigma Squadron) 1x Zeno Armoured Cruiser 90

 + 3x Galen Escort (Attachment) 60

Small

2x Plutarch Heavy Destroyer 90

2x Plutarch Heavy Destroyer 90

It's got cruisers (reliable), it's got destroyers for resilient smalls, mine layers for board control, and a Kepler-Aristotle for fire support/ drones. I've also found favour with the Sigma Squadron recently, providing fairly fast firepower and covering some points of Medium and Smalls, for a fairly small outlay.

Ahoy fellow penguin!

Glad to hear the mighty scientists are doing well in your league, what list have you been using so far? Knowing what you have found good will help us give more useful suggestions.

If I were creating a 1k points list to go up against anyone, I would probably go with:

Aristotle with e-turrets + kepler

1x Zeno

3x Plato light cruiser

3x Cleomedes

4x Diogenes

5x Thales

The Aristotle and Kepler would provide backfield fire support and drone network maintenance. The lone Zeno hunts down corvette squadrons or other troublesome smalls. The Platos provide a nice flexible squadron to throw where you need them (they are not bad at boarding, pack a serious close range punch and are not worth too many points for your opponent.) The Cleomedes are the backbone of the list, being a tough presence with fair firepower and again a bit of boarding if you get them into position. Diogenes stay back and clear up what the aristotle/kepler leave behind, as well as providing close range firepower if anything races up close to the Aristotle. Thales just do what they do best, boarding and shooting.

I am with Thamoz and Sebenko on this. A bit more information could help.

What did you play at 750? Did you like the way that fleet played? If so, why don't you use it as a start for your 1000 point list?

I think the CoA medium seciton gives room for a lot of builds, biggest problem for me would be to decide what to leave out...

Btw I do like both proposed fleets from Sebenko and Thamoz a lot, Maybe I'd change a squad here or there, but all in all both look pretty nice.

Just to give another example (rather drone heavy):

Diophantus, 3x3 Drones

1 Kepler, 5 Drones

3 Cleomedes (standard turrets)

3 Platos (standard turrets)

2x5 Thales

4+3+3 Drones

@Sebenko: I think it is funny. In "theory" I love the Zenos and I often try to build fleets with 3 of those beasts in. However when my fleet building is finished, they usually end up being 3 Cleomedes instead....

Heh, I find the opposite. I like the cleomedes but I usually find myself taking them out of my lists to be replaced with more specialised squadrons. Usually Zenos, which I really really like in my fleets.

In fact, most of my fleets medium and small sections go through a few permutations when fleet building, it is only the large/massive section that rarely changes and is usually decided by points level. Under 1250? Aristotle with energy turrets. Over 1250, a dreadnought (Prometheus usually, Diophantus occasionally). There is a good reason that my CoA fleets are medium heavy!

Sorry for the lack of original info.

For 750 I played

Diophantus w Drone controller 9

Hippasus

3x Capk

5x Thales

While I enjoy this little set up it seems to lack AD for me. I have trouble bring down my opponents Capital ships.

E-turret Aristotle with Kepler attachment.

Costs the same as the Drone-9 Diophantus, but has 18AD at RB4, and still brings Drone-5.

It's pretty much the best choice of large/massive squadrons in the Covenant ORBAT.

Ill be getting some Keplars soon. I'll be sure to give that a go, as that's a lot of dice to throw at anything turn 1. I find the Diophantus a little underwhelming :(

That is because it is. It is very tough, but lacks the firepower to really be called a dreadnought. In 750 point games I would avoid it like the plague since as soon as it goes down that is game over, and the impact it has on the game is limited. E-turret Aristotle is a much more reasonable choice in my opinion.

What do you think of the capeks? What are you using them for and are they performing well?

I'm really liking the Capeks. I either use them to hunt medium/small flyers and the same for cruisers and frigates. They can't do much vs any kind of large though, and can be pretty fragile. Hit and run is awesome though.

Taking out large/massives is something we struggle with. Unless the target is weaker than average (pocket battleships, carriers etc) I tend to chip off a few points of damage then just board them. Dive bombers can work too of course.

I like capeks for sniping away corvettes that are hidden behind islands in deployment. Not sure I would ever try and be closer than rb4 though, since as you say they are terribly fragile. Glad you are liking them! They are one I am unsure about due to the cost, but they are our specialist air hunter.

If you want to take on large/massives with pure firepower, I would consider the Prometheus. It is our go-to face wrecker. It is a dreadnought though (a proper one, unlike the Diophantus) and is therefore also a massive points sink and massive target. Nothing else we have can really go toe to toe over a game, since the primary turret aristotle (our other potential brawler) has several massive Achilles heels.

I like what's going on here. Only issue is the among of smalls is risky. You could flank them and hope the rest of your points can deal with the enemy but anyone with more then 1-2 squads of smalls will be an issue for you. Aka prussians. Tho target painting and having 2 BB Kepler squads laying waist to that Target would be awesome!!! Could bumming down one BB squad and going with cleos and corvettes instead of destroyers. Adds some hp points to the board and corvettes reduced chance to hit from capitol help.

So ditch the plutarchs for thales (? is thales better than diogenes  as dio has torps) and increase number of small squadrons.

Have aristotles with target paint gen for other aristotle, hisspasus and cleomedes with primary weapons - sturginium munitions (as energy is only secondary weapon).
