The best you're going to get with the Daedalus in the current rules, when it comes to mine laying, is attaching Alea escorts

 

The issue with the Daedalus is that I could take two Ptolemys for the price, which are individually just as good mine-layers, faster, 360 movement and come in squadrons. Sure, they're squishier, but they're fast enough that they'll probably have put some mines in a useful place already, and can deploy in the advance force. As a large, the Daedalus is fairly useless as a mine-layer, as is the case with almost all larges. I'd really like to see it have a MCG option. It just doesn't seem to stand out in any area. With the reduction of the Epicurus to 'meh' status, I'd have thought the Daedalus would be worth considering, but looking at the stats it just doesn't seem to fit.

As an E-turret platform, anything that can equip a 6AD E-turret is either better at E-turrets, cheaper or capable of doing something interesting (Target painters, carrier ability, teleport gens)

As a minelayer it's beaten by everything except the Diophantus, as it's not more capable, nor is it faster than any other mine layer.

It has no interesting support options

It isn't in any Specialist Squadrons

 

The Daedalus as it is, and as it has almost always been, it a model that I can never find a reason to include in a list. I can see it from my desk, half painted as it has been for what must be nearly a year, and almost four years since I bought it, just not worth finishing, because no-one's going to see it anyway.

Yeah

I've never found a reason to play it but the look makes it feel like it shoud be used and i'd like to see a fast heavy strike unit with maybe a special teleport trick - like teleport the actual model itself to escape or appear in the midst of the enemy.

Thanks and its a shame there is no valid reason to include in fleet to show that the Covenant have teeth as well as style.
