Official Kurak Alliance Thread: Xelocian

Recommended Posts

Not quite. On page one of the Kurak Alliance Fleet Manual, it says:

Quote

As you will see when looking through the following
Statistics Profiles, the models within this Manual are
grouped into different factions; Hawker Industries, the
Ryushi, the Tarakians, the Terquai, the Veydreth and the
Xelocians. To construct a Kurak Support Fleet, you first
need to select one of these to be your Core Faction.
Your Fleet’s minimum required Squadrons from each
Tier MUST be chosen from the models available to this
Faction, and your Fleet Admiral must be placed on a
Tier 1 model belonging to this Faction.
Apart from this, you may fill out the remainder of
your Fleet using the models available either to your
Core Faction, or the other factions within this Manual.

E.g. if you take Hawker as your Core Faction, you must take one Hawker squadron of each Tier and put your Admiral on a Hawker Tier 1. You may spend the rest of your points on squadrons of other Kurak factions, even if your Hawker squadrons make up less than 50% of your force.

So I finally picked up some Xelocian boxes from my local store, Patrol Fleet and Dreadnought Group (Group being a very importent word). Much confusion with these sets. So the picture on the front of the Patrol Fleet is the Battleship, x4 Cruisers, x5 Frigates. Great, all accounted for. Picture on the front of the Dreadnought Group is the Dreadnought, x3 Escorts, just like the other races. When going through the box though, there are no Escorts. Then looking at the box contents on the rear, there are no Escorts listed????

So why Spartan, put a picture of the Dreadnought Group on the front of the box (Dreadnought + x3 Escorts), name the box 'Dreadnought Group', but then only put in the box a single Dreadnought Ship, which being singular, can't be a 'Group'. The other races for around the same price all come with Escorts. I thought this was a bit naughty from Spartan. Calling a box set a 'Group', when clearly the contents aren't, and putting a picture of the Group with other ships, that are not included in the box.

And it's wasn't just me. My Gaming Group all had the same view. If the front of the box is showing the x3 Escorts with the Dreadnought, its called a 'Dreadnought Group' on the box, its a bit misleading not to include the x3 Escorts.

Hi all, yes, it is supposed to come with 3 escorts - it sounds like you've unfortunately got a mispacked copy @SecretSquig - sorry about this. The best thing to do is email our despatch department, as I deal with marketing and social media queries, the Corinthian Club and Vanguards :) Their email address is despatch@spartangames.co.uk

Beth, speaking about the Xelocian dreadnaught, can you please look into this?

Is anyone using xelocians as a non-build? They look powerful at range but a bit of a one trick pony so wonder if they would be able to keep up. What ships are you leaning toward? The dread is a monster but the points are so high I am unsure if it is worth it, particularly once you put a few upgrades on it. It doesn't have weapon shielding so that tasty 20 AD fixed fore isn't going to last long. The main benefit I can see from it is if you get multiple arcs, but with a fixed fore and low speed that might be hard.

That tasty 20 AD doesn't drop into weak amounts... ever, haha. I played against it as Directorate and killed all 8 of it's crew with biohazard and cyber warfare and including it's escorts it was still throwing a 16 shot at me. That thing is a threat until it is entirely dead.

Well, the list I played against was kinda bloated. He didn't have an excess of models yet for the points, so he went very upgrade heavy. It did ok, I guess. It ended up a draw in battle log, but I definitely wouldn't call it a great game for him. Also his first with it. Hard to say so far. They are probably totally fine on their own, if you play to their strengths and just really know the fleet and how to play against other fleets. I definitely don't think point for point they are even remotely near the bottom of the power scale. Just not a ton of options. Both of the T1's can take interceptors, huge perk. Would allying in another fleet to cover certain aspects be stronger? Absolutely, but I don't think you would have to. If it were someone's first fleet, I'd tell them to get a more fleshed out fleet. If it's a second or third, I'd definitely say go for it.

Right, well I need some tactical advice for my xelocians, just tried a couple of 1000 pts lists for tourney against bakash. Went very top heavy the cruiser heavy, got tabled twice.

My list 1

Dread, corrosive, +1shield, 3 interceptors

BB, corrosive, +1 shield +3 wings, 3 interceptors

4 cruisers with corrosive

3 frigates

2 frigates

List 2

Dread, corrosive, +1 shield, 4 interceptors

4 cruisers with corrosive

3 cruisers with corrosive

3 frigates

2 frigates

His list both times was

Battlecarrier, extra wings, weapon shielding, second assault, 3 interceptors, 6 fighters

3 cruisers

3 cruisers

3 heavy cruiser

3 frigates

3 frigates

So waaay more activations, and those bakash cruisers are nuts, 55pts for all that seems unfair lol.

Any general advice would be appreciated

Light cruisers are nice since it's a split tier 2/3 option.  And options are good.  I'd like to see a heavy cruiser more built for brawling instead of focused on the fore gun, or even a gunship.  Or for something different ont he Heavy Cruiser front, I'd enjoy seeing something akin to a cruiser with pocket carrier capacity, something that can be used as a tier 1 in patrol games, bringing some wings to bear, but still having some guns on them.

How do you make the ship template? Also, I'd say +2 AP and remove Planetfall (it feels weird for the birds to have 18AP when other more assaulty races gets less with their assault cruisers, bar Terquai).

I don't have a fancy PDF editor so the template is a screen-cap of the PDF modified with lots of cut' n paste in an old version of Paint Shop Pro a roomie installed on my computer 15 years ago.

The trade off for the high AP rating is it's fragility, with only 3 HP you might loose one before you get it in range to board. (I am considering dropping the extra HP hardpoint).
