New to the CoA

Recommended Posts

So as most people on this forum know, I'm an FSA player at the moment, and if you didn't, the name gives it away ;)

I bought a friend a few CoA models to get him into the game, and although he enjoys playing, he doesn't have the time to paint. So being a good bloke, he gave the models back to me. So now it looks like I'm a CoA player too!! I've got the new Naval starter set, 3 Plato and a blister of heavy destroyers. What would peoples advice be? I'm considering the bombardment group as my first purchase...

Zenos are really awesome. They are expensive in points but are incredibly good in taking down smalls, damaging mediums and attacking models with annoying defensive MARs and Generators.

A Callimachus Orb is also a good choice. Being able to translocate models medium and smaller over the battlefield is awesome and a good combination with the Zenos.

Heh, I always feel the points spend on an escort could be better used elsewhere, but that one is very subjective.

You simply cannot go wrong with CoA mediums. They are all excellent at their given roles and are where the specialist nature of the CoA is most apparent. Most of them can build a synergy with other units and I would say the majority of my CoA fleets rely on the medium section to do the work and carry the plan! And considering the recent changes that have made our large and massive section a little more... restricting... I think this s even more the case.

Feel you want some exemplary long range firepower? Fresnels!

Want to prove the CoA can handle close quarters just fine? Zenos!

Feel the need for a little more dronage? Keplers!

Struggling to take out aerial smalls? Capeks!

Want a cheap, disposable light cruiser that packs a hell of a punch with normal guns (or a decent rb4 energy punch)? Plato!

Feel the need to make your energy weapons just a little more terrifying, whilst having our new, weaker drones that little bit more survivable? Hyperbius!

Hippasus, our supporting battlecruiser, you already have. Pairs well with Thales and Plutarchs! Certain allied vessels love them too (Tough to pull off, but if using an allied in CoA section to bring a Hippasus to a free australian force can be fun. 1st turn, send the crocodile assault submarines through the portal to take control of an enemy carrier, battleship or battlecruiser whilst it is still in your opponents deployment zone! That really messes with their target priority I can tell you!)

Cleomedes is our workhorse and one of very few non-specialised vessels. I like them :)

All of these options serve a purpose and can add a lot of variety to the CoA playstyle. Pick which ones you want to try out, proxy to see what you get on with, and then buy them all and realise just how awesome and fun they can all be :D
