Jonto81 16 Report post Posted August 21, 2015 Hi all, New to firestorm armada and just starting my first fleet - the awesome looking works raptor. So far base coated black and started one model with a highlight of dark blue/purple. Quick question - painting metal parts, how do you do it without losing the rag? Breath to hard on them and the paint comes off - yes I have washed and scrubbed and even put through a sonic cleaner 1 Works Raptor reacted to this
Nuck Fewton 139 Report post Posted August 21, 2015 varnish once you've got everything painted. Pinning them in place would help too.

quiet01 990 Report post Posted August 21, 2015 Some primers do not adhere well to metal. Tamiya makes a primer just for metal parts.
knightperson 153 Report post Posted August 22, 2015 It does make a difference how good your primer is. GW's Chaos Black hasn't been called a primer in years, and it shows. P3's primer is pretty good, but I find it to be kind of thick. I just use a rattle-can of Krylon from the local craft store. I've very rarely had it chip off, and it does a nice thin coat. Just make sure it's actual primer, not just black spray paint.
Jonto81 16 Report post Posted August 22, 2015 Thanks guys - was using Vallejo model air primer through airbrush. I believe I have some primer floating around for car painting - might give that a go

Krylon makes a brand of paint that is meant for plastics. the paint actually bonds with the surface of plastic. i wonder if that works with resin hmmm
CheesyRobMan 150 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 If you're in the UK then Halfords body primer is good. Looking forward to seeing your ships painted up
Works Raptor 40 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 Army Painter's primers are top class products; adhere well, are very durable, and come in a variety of colors. Looking forward to seeing this fleet progress.
Jonto81 16 Report post Posted August 25, 2015 Daughter and wife away overnight so I get to throw some paint around - this I think will be my base to work off want to add a bit of colour but keep them very dark 2 Works Raptor and AndrewChristlieb reacted to this
Jonto81 16 Report post Posted August 30, 2015 First ship finished to what I suppose I am going to have to call my tabletop standard as my painting at the minute looks like caveman finger painting (honestly I used to be able to paint a lot better) 3 Kurgan, Libran Commodore and klarg1 reacted to this
Kurgan 792 Report post Posted August 30, 2015 I like your color scheme, nice and dark. If you would just add a bit lighter purple to shade a bit more ti would be perfect. Or maybe try a different angle to take the picture from as this front view might kill the shading.

Jonto81 16 Report post Posted September 12, 2015 Thanks - will have to try and get a better shot of them to pick up the purple - also got another 8 corvettes to paint now
tenaciousb 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 Very nice! I look forward to taking them on at LGC!
klarg1 181 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 Looking very sharp there! I may steal the idea of adding glow effects to the destroyer "intakes". My only criticism is that your wing tokens might disappear on a black play surface. They are kinda dark, and aren't set off by a flight stand.
AndrewChristlieb 861 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 fantastic glow effect there. It's subtle which suits WR perfectly. I agree with klarg though, the srs tokens are very... black. You might try picking out the edges with a bright color, maybe a metallic. I've seen a few people do theirs like the edges are part of a console and that looks pretty good.
