The Mighty Fleet of the Jade Dragon

Recommended Posts

Hi !

I bought a second-hand chinese fleet.

I did some reserch for the color scheme. I wanted to avoid red, because of my red russian and red sorylian fleets.

So I thought I'd like to paint jade green.

Here are some atmosphere inspirations

Beautiful color composition!

Is the decking color beigeish or white? In the first pic it looks beige but in the fourth it looks white?
The beige as in the first pic looks best and gives the model some warmth, the white as in the fourth pic looks a little bland and boring.

Hi ! :)
As you asked, here is a complete step by step for my Chinese Federation. If that can be useful, do not hesitate to copy ;)

I begin with a basecoat of Rhinox hide everywhere. It serves me as basecoat strictly speaking for the hull but also for the gold. I chosed to make all the small crests on the roof in gold, and thus to paint this baseoat on these reliefs is meticulous and painful. I prefer to base everything in brown (what I could make with my airbrush), even if it means to paint again roofs, buildings(ships) and floors with another basecoat then.

Hull :
- Drybrush of Dark Flesh
- Wash of well diluted black paint (Chaos black)
- Some edges painted again with not much diluted dark flesh

Floors and buildings :
- Basecoat of Gretchin green covering the brown, without putting it in grooves
- enlightment with Rotting flesh, a former great reference of Citadel, kind of pale greenish beige
- pure white

Roofs :
- same 2nd basecoat of gretchin green then rotting flesh
- Washes here and there of various tints of well diluted green/blue. Jade Green (very old ref from citadel), turquoise Sotek green, and these both mixed with some rotting flesh. The purpose is to obtain differentiating shades.
- enlightments of roof edges in very clear grey, then white.

Gold :
- Basecoat of Gehenna's gold on the brown
- enlightments of Auric armour gold
- Mitrhil silver
- Wash of Agrax earthshade
- Some hints of turquoise blue wash Coelia greenshade
