Another new guy- starting Works Raptor

Recommended Posts

Hey all-   Good day and all that.  Glad to be a part of the fold here.

I am new to the game and the local meta has most of the main factions and a number of the allied fleets.   We do like to have as many types of opponents as possible, so I was looking around at the factions available and liked the sleek predatory look of the WR force.   Don't really know how the force plays or where it is on the power scale, but hopefully it will be fun and semi competitive.  I will try to update you all as I learn the game and run into the inevitable roadblocks.

To the point:   I purchased two of the patrol boxes so that I can get up to 1200 points.  Cleaning up the flash was a bit irritating, but with patience it got done.  I washed the parts and did all the prep work yesterday and spent a better part of last night putting together the ships together.   Holy Peepers!  Those fins look cool, but they fall off after glued instantly.  I have had to reglue 5 fins already and its been 12 hours  (most of that sleeping).  I scored the resin to give it more surface and used Insta-cure+ (cyanoacrylate) glue-  its what I use for everything.   any tips on making these things a little more sturdy?  I really don't want to have to pull them all off and green stuff everything.

Also-  any newbie advice for this fleet?  any standard tactics for deployment, rounds 1 and 2?  how does things change when the opponent gets close?  Appreciate any veteran advice.

Thanks!

Hey-  and one other thing.  Have any of you had to deal with SG customer support?   One of my boxes came with no stands and I sent in a mail yesterday requesting the process for replacements.  No response so far and its been a full day.  Is this standard for SG?

Thanks.

Spartan is really good about taking care of miss packs ore miss cast minis. They will get back to you!

Oh, welcome to the community and a great game!

Loctite makes a gel glue, which is fantastic for something like this.

Works Raptor as intimidating stats. Everything has difficult target or elusive, stealth or hidden killer, and are excellent at boarding. The Corvettes are ridiculously fast, elusive, have decent offense, and potentially use 12 AP turn 2. The cruisers should always upgrade their torpedoes based on your opponent. Customize your Assault Carrier however you like; ideally, with the same theme as the cruisers.

Thanks all for the responses.

Regarding the customizable torps-  are their any hard and fast rules around what to use against what forces?

I get it that there is a 1 in 2 chance that corrosive knocks down more hull points-  who are those fleets that are typically low on hp that this will hurt the most?

bio-  takes out crew-  any certain factions that this hurts more than others?

and lastly,  decimators-  having not played yet,   are these the shiz,  or are they the worst of the three?   I cant tell yet.

thanks again

I'm just starting works raptor too... first FSA fleet! (and was torn between between RSN and WR... but our local slow grow campaign organiser was attempting to get lots of different races and RSN was already filled... so easy choice)

I've used them once before in an intro game and flip to those cruisers hit hard. A pack of 3 easily destroyed a squadron of 2 spooks in a turn (one was half damaged) These things are vicious!

The fleet does seem to focus a lot on the fast escorts and long range cruisers more than the BB.

I use the gel loctite, it's great for everything - except the Works Raptor fins.

I'm going to try JB Weld. It's supposed to set with the tensile strength of steel. That should hold them!

As for tactics - WR are boarding MONSTERS. I'd suggest bio hazard ammo and boarding and taking ships at will. Great force.
