  1. With the recent announcement that the studio has returned to work (albeit in a slightly reduced capacity for the present), we wanted to announce the current developments for our various settings and projects. We’ve already talked about some of the new card games in development as well as the plastics for Dystopian Wars. Let’s see what 2020 holds for Firestorm Armada! The global pandemic caused the greatest disruption to the studio since Wayland Games founded us in 2016. It wasn’t just our products and services from China and the United States that were affected. To protect our staff, our in house development and manufacturing facilities were closed for many months, including our fantastic state of the art resin and plastic injection departments as well as the studio itself. This caused us to rework our plans for the year quite drastically. We lost six months, but completely shutting down certain projects has actually caused a knock on effect which has disrupted things well into next year. In order to get things on track we have to look at our production schedule and consider what is important to develop and what needs to wait for a year or two before we can deliver it properly. So we looked at Firestorm and knew that there was no way it would be: Yes, I know it’s a cheap shot putting something like that in an article like this. While some games will have to enter an extended period of ‘Development Hell’ being removed from our current release schedule (Planetfall and Uncharted Seas) and others will see themselves looking at delays into late 2021 and beyond (Lost World Exodus and Armoured Clash) as we open up space in the schedule to make certain we can support Dystopian Wars and Firestorm Armada in the right way. I’m delighted to confirm (again) that the Firestorm Armada Beta will launch on Wednesday the 9th September 2020. The Beta will run along similar lines to the successful Dystopian Wars Beta Test. Full details of how to get involved will be revealed in the coming weeks along with all the latest Firestorm news here at the Black Ocean - The Official Firestorm Armada Community Group. Not only will you be able to share your Beta Test discussions, but also you’ll find a wealth of sneak peeks, concept art and background material as the game takes shape. Find it all here. We are excited to venture out into the Firestorm universe with you. See you on the Black Ocean! Stuart View the full article
  2. As the situation with the coronavirus COVID-19 continues to develop and the United Kingdom enters a further extended period of social isolation, we've been following the advice and instruction of the Government closely. As we announced previously, we have already shut down our in-house manufacturing department until we are confident it is right for our team to be able to return to work. The safety of our staff is paramount, and last week we decided it's in the best interest of the wider team to close the rest of the Studio too. As you may remember, back in February, we shared an update with you regarding the current state of events. The effect of this resulted in a delay in our plans in the second quarter of the year to launch the new edition of Dystopian Wars. The continued disruption caused in response to the pandemic means we must reschedule our plans through to the end of the third quarter too. You may hear from those in the Warcradle Studios team who are working remotely, keeping in touch with the community through social media during this time and putting together occasional Studio Diaries for the blog (like this one). That aside, all development, playtesting and design work at Warcradle Studios is on pause until we are confident it is practical and safe to resume. Those of you ordering directly from our retail partners and ourselves can rest assured you'll still receive your in-stock item(s). With a great deal of care, we have put processes in place to protect our warehouse and logistics staff so we can continue to dispatch in-stock orders, with as small a delay as possible. Warcradle products listed as "being reprinted" may be significantly delayed, as a result of us closing our in-house manufacturing department at this time. Nevertheless, these will be of high-priority when we're back up and running. Of course, our customer support team are still available to contact and are ready to answer any questions you might have, so don't hesitate to get in touch should you need to. We'll be keeping you all up-to-date as the situation develops, so be sure to keep an eye on our blog and social media. Of particular regret is that while the rules for Firestorm Armada are ready for our intended Open Beta in May, we must now accept that without a Studio running to support the Beta, and with players facing challenges in arranging even a simple gaming session to playtest, we must delay the launch until the Studio returns to full operation and the social distancing guidelines become less restrictive. We will announce a new date as soon as possible. In the interim, we hope to be discussing various rules and concepts through our social media pages as well as on the Studio Diary blog entries. Call it a pre-Beta Beta… Whatever Warcradle hobby you are enjoying this month, whether you're tackling your new Mythos models, assembling Theodore Roosevelt on his reptilian steed, or painting fleets of classic Dystopian Wars or Firestorm Armada ships, be sure to share your results with us and the rest of the community. This hobby of ours has an amazing ability to bring joy and light into even the most challenging of times. We hope you find that moment of hobby happiness in whatever you choose to do. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding during this unprecedented situation. Now more than ever, please take care of yourselves and each other. 3. If you are reading this, no doubt you have a something of an interest in what Warcradle Studios is up to. Well, it’s been a busy 2019 for us here in the studio. In addition to the hundred plus products we’ve released this year, the most visible part of our efforts for many of you would be our presence at the various major games shows and exhibitions around the world. As I write this our teams are prepping for Tabletop Gaming Live, in the UK in September and then Spiel in Germany in October. Then it’s over to PAX Unplugged in the good ol’ US of A to close out the year. Of course shows are a small part of what the Studio works on throughout the year, but all too often much of that hard work takes place out of sight of the wider public. We thought that should change! Starting from this week we are going to produce a regular series of Studio Diaries which will draw back the curtain a little on what is being worked on. These articles won’t cover every game each time and won’t necessarily be related to each other. Instead they will be a glimpse at the various workings in Warcradle Studios. Sometimes we’ll have a discussion with one of the talents who make our games and miniatures possible while at other times you might have to put up with my own various ramblings. The Studio Diaries will be a great place to show of sneak peeks at future projects and designs, such as these fantastic concepts for the Relthoza for Firestorm Armada! Or to show off some of the artwork for the forthcoming Borodino Battlegroup for Dystopian Wars. Speaking of Dystopian Wars, I promised to show some of the unit cards for the new game. These are still being refined but here’s a taste of what a Union Fleet might contain in the new game. Keen eyed observers will note the first appearance of a Unique vessel in the game, Nikolai Tesla’s arc technology test-bed the USS Philadelphia. So hopefully this has whetted your appetite for future Warcradle Studio Diaries. Until next time! Stuart View the full article

  5. We’ve been quiet for a while… but we’ve been busy behind the scenes with Warcradle Classics and have many of your favourite miniatures either available or on their way very soon! We have already released a variety of miniatures as part of the Warcradle Classics brand, including many units for Dystopian Wars and Wild West Exodus, and we’re pleased to let you know that we will be continuing to build on this range as we add MORE Dystopian Wars, MORE Wild West Exodus and… drum roll, please… Firestorm Armada miniatures to our catalogue. 15. In our playgroup, nothing elicits a reaction out of the esteemed company I keep more than when I field a battle station. Full disclosure, I play Aquan Prime so the Vortex in particular, but I think all battle stations are looked upon with disdain. I've read them over, and I don't find them to be horribly egregious. I think that the vortex is particularly tanky, but its just a battleship to me given the pros and cons weighed. Am I improperly evaluating this unit?
  16. If a pathogen cruiser squadron takes 2 captured medium ships as an accompaniment, do they each give up a battle log when destroyed?
  17. Hi everyone, As many of the UK Community were aware, I was hosting a FSA GT this year at Slayer Gaming but unfortunately the boss decided to call it a day and left myself out of a job, and a venue for my favourite event of the year! Back to business I've now managed to secure a new venue in the Midlands called Sanctuary Gaming Centre, around 10minutes from the M1 off J28. It's an old church so it's a fantastic setting for a weekend of epic action. Quick Video of the Venue: https://youtu.be/h0heaZoRzOc Facebook Link to Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/660580640750604/ I'll be finalising the tournament pack this weekend but the low down is: March 5th/6th £15.00 Entry 800 Points Patrol Fleet Level NO Battle Stations 5 Scenarios over 2 Days. Some standard and some custom as usual! More to follow...
  18. Carrier 4 Fighters 2 Cruiser Accompaniment Assault Cruisers (2) 2 Buckler Escorts 4 Sgians Either the carrier group shunts in, or the assault cruisers do so. Thoughts?

  20. Assembling Xelocian Hantari Cruiser is not as hard as it looks Additional items needed 1. 1/8 ,32mm plastic colored rods (optional) 2. Future floor wax 3. Zip kicker 4. Small rubber band 5. Super glue *** Make sure the metal side pieces are all the same length. Step 1 Cut the rod longer than the original rod. Step 2 Use 1/8 drill bit and bore out a deeper whole in the figure Step 3 (optional) Bore out the rear engine area. I used a small hand drill with a stone sanding bit. Step 4 paint the ship Step 5 Glue the center section to gather. Wrap the section with rubber band and let it dry **** do not put glue on the plastic rod. I put future floor wax on the rod. It works as glue and clears up the rod. Step 6 Once the center section is dry. Put the rest of the ship together. **** only glue metal sections. **** use future for the rod Now when you have the ship put together use Zip Kicker to make the glue dry fast. Step 7 Put the ship on the stand
  21. Thus begins my adventure in painting Sorylians for Firestorm Armada. I began with this inspiration... And here is my first finished model... You can see the next ships in drydock, the frigates, in the background. What do you think? Questions, comments, and suggestions are all welcome.
  22. Hi guys, I´m planning to organize a small tournament in the beginning of april. We have an event here in Bonn called Feencon, it´s about roleplay, larp and wargaming. So I hope our tournament will catch some attention. And maybe some new players as well. My idea was to keep the fleets small, like 550 points. Why is that? We have alot of beginners here, they only have a patrol fleet, and some people how are interested in FSA. So by keeping the game small I hope to motivate them to paint their fleets and get some experience on the game. So what do you guys think? Is 550 points a good idea for that? And do we need some more restrictions? Like for the wings. Because my Ryushi carrier can bring out 9 bomber which have a hard punch for such a small game... I guess no one will have PD escorts in a 550 point game. So I´m open for suggestions.
  23. I am now painting the Firestorm fleet that will be the counterpart to this Planetfall army. The color scheme will be the same, and since I got some questions about my methodology, I am posting this paint log up. Primed the models. Dad always said to use red/brown primer for painting black. Said it was easier to see the spots you missed. Based everything black with the airbrush. I love airbrush. Shot Vallejo Black Grey pretty liberally onto the models. Shot Vallejo Neutral Gray pretty liberally onto the models, but mostly from upward and side angles. Hit the models with white from exclusively upward angles. Painted Citadel Boltgun Metal onto the piping with a brush. Washed all the models with a very dilluted (about 60% water) mix of Secret Weapon Soft Body Black. Ooops. This is two steps since I forgot to take a second picture. Basically, I after the wash was dry, I dry brushed white all over the models and then applied a glaze of Citadel Guilleman Blue on the parts I wanted blue. The glaze works wonders on the small models because the liquid nature of the glaze keeps the color where I want it. Started doing some wet blending on the big jewel. I think I may try a different effect. This also serves as a close up to show the glazing and drybrushing since I forgot to snap a picture after the drybrush step. Now, back to the table to continue the process. I will update again as I draw closer to the conclusion of this project.
  24. After quite some time, I've managed to scrape together some pictures of my fledgling Aquan fleet, with their Terquai allies. Colours are a bit blue (more turquoise in real life) Chimera frigates: Chimera and Isonade WIP: Terquai WIP: The pain scheme is fairly simple, Model Colour Turquoise base, with AP Blue Tone, and highlight with MC Turquoise and Light Turquoise. Fleet image (as far as I've come ):
  25. Based on what we've seen so far in Battle for Valhalla and Return of the Overseers, what do you think you're going to get?
