My group took a ground up approach to ship designs, and we fully embraced the 3 colour dice mechanics, adn it's made thigns play very differently, and been a blast.

The Directorate was always one of the easiest ones to get out of it.  I was setting my fleet up as a private security interest that was based out of the Directorate, and so procured Directorate tech to use wherever their contracts required them.  So I could be using Directorate ships to defend a Terran Alliance world against the Dindrenzi or a Relthozan raid.  Or I could be the one conducting a raid under contract against any of those three.  It only depended on who I was playing at the time, it wouldn't be hard to draw up a reason for it.
Of course, that may be because my first tabletop interest was Battletech, and they have some fun ways of getting unusual equipment around where it wasn't made.

Getting rid of the two major alliances is a good thing fir freeing up narratives and storylines, don't throw out blind paranoia just because things are changing. Vast cosmic empires do not operate like hive minds. The changes Warcradle are making push towards real stories in the Firestorm universe rather than some background fluff on each major faction and a blank template otherwise for players to fill in. The opposition acts like without two rule-enforced alliances there is no political structure to the galaxy which is of course totally false.
I like what I see here for teasers.

The dindrenzi aren't actually that bitter about their planet, its just every time Terran Intelligence asks 'Why is this happening?' The whole faction points at an overtaxed and subjugated husk of a planet and thinks 'REMEMBER?!'

I have seen it printed with a label device on bases and it looks alright. Speaking of which, the RNV 'Fields of a Thousand Dead' is pretty well through being repainted. Any tips or criticisms on glows?
(My ships earn their names. Such as this thing wiping out a relthozan battlecruiser one turn and crippling a carrier beyond reasonable use the next)

I think that there are certainly more or less redundant choices, the biggest example I can think of being two Relthoza frigates, one with a fore weapon and one without for the same price point. The other might put out a few more dice on the broadside, but in terms of overall use id imagine the frigate with more arcs of fire is a more appealing choice. I'm sure every core race has a couple of these.

WITH THAT SAID I'm a vocal opponent to homogenizing the game or getting rid of things for no reason. More variety of ships is a sentence that doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I think what Richard means is that Dystopian Wars and Firestorm are very different beasts. With Dystopian Wars Warcradle made a clear move to combine two IPs into one for their release structure. That in itself brought a lot of changes to the structure and political scene of Dystopian Wars.

Firestorm has no such twinning and being as the only other space games on the market are Dropzone and Starwars -  neither of which are going anywhere near administration - I doubt there would be one. That means its got far less chance of the more major changes that Dystopain Wars has experienced. Of course I expect a lot of change, but I'd wager many of the core elements will remain the same (Sorylians are Lizards - Relthoza are Spider thingies

Warcradle would have a riot from all the Sorylian players not getting to be space Lizards anymore. We can get a rough Idea of Warcradle is likely to change lore wise by looking at the Dystopian Age. I think its safe to say that there won't be any race changes, it would be change for the sake of change which nether goes over well.
@Charistoph that is an interesting idea. I think a timeline jump would work well for Warcradle. It would help smooth ruffled feathers.

I'm not phenomenal at miniatures admittedly, but from the carrier as my first FSA model to the cruiser I'm getting more confident. I'm working with enamel paints right now and I'd really like to switch to acrylics but i'm worried that I'm going to lose visual cohesiveness on my fleet. I do love the way their metals look though. Please criticize! Any tips at all would be very helpful.

@GreenOakSteve Now those look properly imperial! Beautiful work with the wood decks, weathering and staining becomes a real automatic process as you work through naval models so I'm always happy when a deck jumps out at me
