  1. I've only been able to a have brief look through, but I'm really liking what I'm seeing. Will properly look at it later. From the brief look, the things that jumped out at me that i like is command point mechanics, helix design, game points, line of sight, disorder interactions, flyer changes and weapon changes
  2. There are 2 relthoza players in my area that use jabri to good effect. There are issues with infantry i feel everyone has, the biggest problem being you can't leave a transport to immediately enter a building unless there is an enemy unit to storm. The way I've seen them used is to drop them in spires as the last activations for a turn, storm if you can, if not have them as the first activations the next turn to get into primary objective buildings. Infantry in buildings are generally a pain to remove.
  3. Unlike forces such as Dindrenzi and Relthoza who have easy access to primary objectives with sky drop, Terrans who can disembark after moving flat out and the Aquans who are super fast, the Directorate really struggle to get across the board before the game ends inside of our core helix. The helix that can sort that is the Leviathan helix. The Leviathan cruise move is 1" more than the Intruders flat out, you then get the disembark distance with the haunter followed by the disembark distance with the infantry and then if you're lucky a storm move if you're just out of range to go into base contact.
  4. Kicking myself into gear and getting my Directorate painted. Here's my test colour scheme I'm probably going to run. Main changes I'm planning: Red light/screen on the front Maybe change the silver to a dark grey/charcoal grey and avoid metallic Have a glowing blue effect in the cyber gun
  5. I second this, really didn't think much of the box pictures but when you hold it and have it on the flight stand it really is something else.
  6. Having 2 core boxes for taking up to a full really helps, I'd advise that first. I've gone with an aerial theme so far with my directorate, any of the flyers for directorate (ground assault, interceptor and leviathan) are really cool. The leviathan is my favourite out of the 3, I like the whole transport inside a transport idea, not to mention it looks incredibly cool.
  7. Dundee Wargaming Club In Dundee Didn't have anyone playing 2 months ago, now we have 6 people with armies and a selection of people interested. Games are arranged through events on their Facebook page.
  8. Would love to show up, sadly work will get in the way
  9. Cloaked on a 7+7 model for 100pts has always made them tough to kill, I've only ever lost 1 unit of them as other targets take priority. I should maybe think about what my opponent will target instead. 12+11+10 cloaked for 500pts on the Arbiter along with all the benefits is appealing, it might be just enough to make people perform the mistake of shooting the Trojans as they will have an easier time killing them.
  10. From my games as the Directorate, I've felt the Trojan cyber warfare tanks have been a bit lacking whenever I use them, the cyber chart can be unreliable. I have however not been using the Arbiter command tanks. It looks obvious that having two of these tanks would give Trojans a great time, but I feel without them you have nowhere near as much control over cyber results. Do you bother taking Trojan tanks when you don't run Arbiters?

  12. I managed to do a 6k game in 3 hours, but we felt rushed towards the end to finish up in time. I'm looking at testing 4k and 4.5k, could be interesting to see what doesn't make the cut in a list of those sizes.
  13. Hopefully what I have to say will help you. 3 months ago, nobody at my local gaming club played Planetfall. As of yesterday we have 5 people with armies, with a following 3 other people lined up for demo games, 2 of which said they are very likely to buy a core box after the demo. The club itself has around 70 members, it runs every Thursday and every second Monday, with an average attendance of 40-50 people (record is 65 in one night). 40k is obviously the biggest game there, however in the past few months there has been a sharp shift in game systems played. It used to average over 80% of games played each Thursday but now has less than 50% of games played at the club. I feel there are a number of factors that combined to cause this, each factor attracted at least one person, but the effect of that one person accelerated the uptake of Planetfall. The interest in Planetfall started with myself. I wanted a 10mm scale sci-fi game and Planetfall had the best looking models to me. I messaged a couple of friends with links to different Planetfall pictures to guage interest. As is the case with a lot of games people say they are interested but never follow through. I dove head first and managed to get one other person to do the same. When everything arrived roughly 2 months ago, we played our first game. The club officials are keen to get people into other games so we were given a table next to the bar so that if people wanted a drink, they had to walk past our table. They had to see Planetfall to get a drink, there was no avoiding it. A number of people stopped by during the game to spectate and see what it was about. When we were talking to spectators we were keen to get more people into it, so we hammered home the fact that: The rules are free. With a 20% discount it only costs £32 to start playing. You will always use the models from that first purchase (no wasted purchase). Following that game I managed to get the first demo game arranged with another friend. I split my core into the 2 equal halves and we played a game, next to the bar yet again. The friend that bought Planetfall and myself decided to split the cost of a core box and buy the friend I demoed to for his birthday. Unknown to us, he had also ordered a core box. He now had a full core. Now that we had 3 players with full cores, the types of people that now know they can get a game of Planetfall easily with us showed interest. Another demo game was lined up followed by another core box purchase. Someone else who hadn't played a demo game had taken the plunge and bought a core box as well. The original friend I played with had expanded their army as well as myself. Last night we decided to try and attract a lot of attention with our game, we played a 6k point game on the center table of the club. My Directorate consisted of full core, 2 full aerial ground assault and 2 full ground assault helices. During the game there were a large number of people interested in what was going on. In particular the cool looking models such as the leviathan models and fliers. There are now more poeple lined up for demo games. Throughout the 2 months I've been asking what actually grabbed their attention and what sounds good about Planetfall. The main points are: Low cost barrier of entry. Updates are free, no having to fork out £50 for a new set of rules. Models look cool. Easy to remember rules (The quick reference sheet made it very easy). Easy to remember stats (Everything hits of 4+ and defensive MARs). Not 40k. There was another point I feel also roped people in, nobody outside of the person asking for a demo was told it was a demo game. To everyone watching it was yet another person playing Planetfall. There are 2 Talon's for Hawk games at the club and there is always a demo game for Dropzone there (the game I see as Planetfall's rival), but outside of their demo games I don't see any uptake happening following the demos. I'm not a Vanguard for Spartan Games, but I feel it's fairly easy to sell people on the idea of Planetfall where I am. Part of what makes it easy is that I'm not trying to sell every Spartan Games system at once. People want to know that there will be a playerbase that isn't just passing through. People don't have a lot of time. In my example, there are only 6 game nights a month, which means you only have time to play 6 games a month at the club. Say you were looking to get into a new game, you probably want to continue to play your current system for at least half of those games to begin with. So said person only really has 3 nights a month to play alternate systems, but obviously real life comes into play and they can only manage 4 games a month. Now they only have 2 games a month to look at other game systems. If someone is trying to sell 6 different Spartan Games systems at once, you'll be put off. You only have time for probably one of those if you want to invest yourself in it. But the people interested in something not 40k are potentially split between 6 systems, further diluting the playerbase. The plan I have with my friend, is that once we have a sizable playerbase of Planetfall players, Armada will be introduced as a way in breathing new life into Planetfall and to supplement that hobby. We're taking everything in steps. When the Halo ground game comes out, I feel that will be easy to sell as those that have expressed a big interest in it here haven't shown too much interest in Firestorm, it's unlikely to split the playerbase and instead siphon more 40k players. I hope any of this has helped, a lot of it is very specific to the mentality around here.
