  1. Oh Planetfall, how we miss thee...
  2. I haven't heard WC mention anything about PF. Where can I review that?
  3. Yep...I'm waiting until I can work through all the rules before playing.
  4. @child9 I suspect it is already too late. PF 2.0 will be released someday, and it will likely be a good game. But customers won't come back because SG ignored the primary rule of hobby sales... People buy games/models because of the enjoyable experience they have when interacting (playing games, painting minis, reading fluff, etc.) with them. When a company ignores (SG), forgets, or foregoes (GW's "we make models") the idea that their responsibilities extend beyond a single sale and into the shared realm of the customer's experience, they will not be successful. The Gamer's Haven is one of the most successful mini-centric game stores in the Western United States. Rob specializes (to a degree) in mini games with lots of table space and convention support. He bought a ton of FSA and PF and taught the game to the customer base. The fact he is on here is indicative of how bad the situation is. When he replaces SG's product with something else...SG is very unlikely to ever get that space or promotion back. Which might be ok (but it really isn't) if they are going direct to consumer sales channel approach, which the Kickstarter indicates. The problem then becomes the lack of development and customer engagement. Bottom line...a lack of integrity and communication kills every business. If you don't talk to your customers (both players and retail) and if you don't speak the truth when you do...no amount of create game/mini design will over come that.
  5. Good post, Rob. Probably time to vote with your dollars, shelf space, and table space, my friend. At some point, this dynamic stops being anything other than deliberate and either malicious or incompetent. Its too bad...we had what 12 players or so buy PF stuff?
  6. Linde, Thanks for the post. To be clear, I want to make sure I understand what expectations I should have. Spartan Neil posted in Sept in this forum that we should see PF 2.0 rules by the end of the year/first part of 2017. What I hear you saying is that you will have some pre-release models to show us in March, 6-7 months after his post and no mention of new rules. Am I understanding this correctly?
  7. A reason to reenergize the Planetfall community. Please give me one. - Santa

  9. My .02... The LOS system for the current PF game works fine. If you can see it, it dies. This is consistent with "modern war." Remember, if your stuff is hidden/no LOS it can't be destroyed no matter how many hits the opponent has. The current system is simple, fast, and eliminates the most contentious part of playing most mini games. That being said, the tracked/wheeled/walker rules need a revision. As a Terran player, the current rules don't mean much to the game and with terrain can be a real issue with board set-up (when large sections are difficult or impassable to wheeled vehicles).
  10. Come on and play with us! It will be a good time.

  13. Nice Pics Dale! And thanks for running a fun and enjoyable event.
  14. Dale, Randy and I will bring some terrain. r/-A.
  15. The sheriff. Fast, hits hard (rear/side shots), artilleryx2, relatively tough and an awesome model on the table Two please
  16. I agree with Tycho. In my list noted above, I have a total of 8 Valks. Mostly, they hide until something skydrops in and then they pounce. Two GA helixs hmmm? Might have to try that. I do love me some sherriffs though. Enough AD to pop a leviathan, 2 artillery, and can attack ground or air targets (with interceptor). Most flexible units we have access to.
  17. Welcome Cdr. Zebo. to our ranks. I've spent a lot of time and money (i have at least one of every helix and two of most of them) trying to learn how to win with Terrans. What i believe is that there is only one to consistently win...kill the enemy and win via TVs (vice objectives). The Strategy is simple...shoot the big ones. It takes advantage of the two asymmetric advantages we have: pinpoint and terror. With that strategy in mind, you want to take the list that gives you as many attack dice as possible. For me its a full core (twin vidars), 2xheavy helixes, and 2x sherriffs with guardsman and artillery. Take 3x AA units (core and two heavy helixes), one shield tank with the Vidars. This list has range (heavys + sherriffs w/movement+ artillery placement) and strength/resilience (DR/Shields) and the heavy will get placed shots if you placed them well. I played 17 games with mixed unit lists (recon, infantry, leviathans, etc) and won about 5 of them. With the list above, I'm undefeated (7 games or so against Dinz and spiders). Not a huge sample size but I'm convinced it is more competitive. Sorry but infantry is a poor choice for Terrans. 1) they can only take and hold buildings. Any non-building objective and you are hosed. 2) They can't start out of the transport and with games only going two rounds average, they don't do much good in vehicles. 3) our vehicles are slow and the games only go 2 rounds. 4) if you use recon moves to get transports and/or infantry in place...they die fairly quickly and are worth too many TV. In contrast, your armored vehicles get shields and the shield rerolls. Spend the points on vehicles. I haven't played with the Ground attack helix yet (bought it)...it may be worth it if it can kill models or consistently take the primary. Huscarls are great, but the game has to go more than 2 rounds for them to really have value.
  18. c0rruptd, I like to bring artillery. I normally bring 4-6 markers worth depending on the size of the game. As a general rule, it is effective (lots of different ways to define that) about 1/3 of the time. However, I see a challenge with your dual designator rule change...the length of games isn't long enough to increase the difficulty of zeroing in artillery. Most (70%) of my games are 2 turns, about a third are 3 turns, and I've had one game go 4 turns. Combine short games with the fact my designators (Sherriffs mostly) don't live past the first turn in most games and dual designators is the only way I have to get the artillery off. Additionally, as a Terran player, the artillery is one of the only ways I have to hold your army at risk at the beginning of the game. Otherwise, my opponent can sit against the back edge of the board and out range me. At least artillery gives me a chance to damage a key unit before it unloads on me. I think artillery is fine.
