I'm inclined to agree. I also think that applying 21st century knowledge to a game based hundreds of years into our future is not necessarily a good idea. I could probably come up with half a dozen sci fi explanations for a brute force impact not killing the occupants of a specialised boarding vehicle if I put my mind to it. Some sort of gravity altering harness, inertial dampeners or some other mcguffin technology. Simply put humanity is in its infancy when it comes to scientific knowledge.
Ultimately I imagine small craft which decelerate prior to impact, "land" on the hull and start cutting.
At the same time I don't necessarily see it as a practical form of offensive attack (unless it's a stealth mission of some kind) high likelihood of casualties for minimal gain and realistically its more likely to happen in the aftermath of a battle.

Given the immense distances involved in space combat accidental collision is unlikely. Keep in mind your ships really only occupy the space of their stem, the models are just there to look good. I hope that 3.0 refines this concept and removes all mentions of models touching etc since it really shouldn't matter

Absolutely true! It's simply a question of how much has been sacrificed! That's what has to be seen. Although I'd rather have a somewhat tactical game that people are looking to play than a superbly tactical game that struggles to find players!
Hopefully it's not just a total beer and pretzels dice rolling exercise!!

I can't speak for Sorylians and Aquans (nor would I want to), but we Relthoza are a very clean species.  Our bodies are covered in nanites that constantly consume and reprocess dead skin cells, parasites, and mucous discharge.  Very clean, and nothing goes to waste.  Other species are kind of gross, though.  Aquans smell like fish, Sorylians are constantly molting, and humans just look like they're sweating and getting sticky all the time!  Humans also make terrible pets, for what it's worth.  My sister bought one at a Kedorian flea market, and it just screamed all the time!  Eventually we had to flush it.  An awful experience, all around.

If 30 is all it takes to be a luddite theres no hope for humanity  !! I'm also 30 and I am all for a good app for stat references.

PDF stat cards would be a second, but I wouldn't want physical cards. Too much production costs and it would put off tweaking of ship rules. I'd rather they tweak units as necessary and the pdf/digital stats allows for this

I agree on the PR front. I find BoW seem to really push their buddies. I don't find them to be the impartial journalists they try to claim to be. With the amount of coverage they give prodos, its criminal they haven't covered the Kickstarter mess for AvP. They don't want to ruffle feathers, which I suppose is fair, but it goes against the whole idea of them being unbiased in my opinion.. But that's way off topic....
That said I am a backstager and enjoy their content.
I do think Spartan would benefit from getting their foot in the BoW door for a FSA academy style series to up the profile

My beef with FT is that the big ships are so bullet-spongy there's almost no reason to ever take anything below battlecruiser, cause as you activate individual ships, you're just not doing enough damage before those bazillion batteries on the big ship blow all of your frigates out of the water in one turn. FA is much better at it due to linked activations.

But I'd gladly get rid of the turn template in favor of 45/90o pivots per distance moved.

Yeah that's pretty much the case. There are too many times when models pile up for that template to be anything but a hindrance. People end up hovering it above the ships and doing rough movements anyway. I just think getting rid of the template would be much smoother. My 2 cents.

Agree on most of your points though, the peg should be the standard measurement point for all parts of the game. The no touching rule also makes no sense. I'm not sure about combining bands one and two, but it might be better to only have to remember two bands short and long range for the sake of simplicity.

Terrain can stay as is.... if you get rid of the template

Yeah using both tape and template really slows it down best to stick to one measuring method and if you have to use a template, makes sense to use it for everything. The Litko template is nice and thin, but it still gets awkward to use in tight clusters...

I never understand the argument that it would boost dindrenzi, you don't have to turn the full 45 degrees when you turn so sometimes to are eyeballing it anyway....

    No template, no snaking

My view of space *mines* in all games is that they are *lazy* missiles that lurk using one-shot stealth technology until a victim is within range (too close to evade).
The kill mechanism might be gamma ray lasers, cluster warheads or ultra high speed kinetics etc.

Some modern sea mines already work like this.

Nothing to do with old style *horned* sea mines that were tethered to the sea floor.

While there are lots of areas that they can make changes for the better, there are only 3 areas I think would really benefits from changes:
Faster Movement Rules - while I love the gradual direction changes of FSA, the movement rules need a way to be faster than they are as this is probably the #1 time sink in the game Improved Dice Pool Calculation Rules - it takes too long to calculate dice pools with various weapons at different range bands, different levels of ship damage, and hope you don't have turrets to add to the complexity (says the Terran player) "Improve" Mixed Benefit MARS to reduce decision paralysis - MARs like Sector Shielding and Energy Transfer can take too much time to decide on as you have to predict in the Command Segment of your activation something you won't be able to make a proper decision on until the end of Movement or attack declaration on what the proper decision is.  This results in players "preplanning" their turn before actually taking it just to decide on how to use the MAR

"The case against more fluff" is basically sunk by the existence of the 40K universe, because even within that virtual mountain of official 40K fluff there's still exists this gigantic fluff vacuum to create your own stuff in.

The only problem with large amounts of official fluff is avoiding contradictions.

On the design front I think they all represent a new generation of ship designs. You can see they have taken design queues from previous ships but are different. This makes sense as the designs will be done by different engineers from an in-universe point of view. I collect both Terrans and Dindrenzi, and I love the look of both in this set. I'm very tempted by the directorate models and the relthoza, but honestly I don't dislike any of them the way I disliked the first edition models

Movement is the big bug bear for me. It's cumbersome, particularly in tight areas of the table.
I'd love if they ditched the movement tool and just used an eyeball turning method like BFG or Halo. Just reduce movement by 1" for each turn. Sure it slightly takes away a bit of the tactical element of the movement phase but it would go a long way toward speeding up overall gameplay.

Cheers man, I saw the post about that alright on the Firestorm Admirals League. I'd actually love to attend, but I'm getting married the Friday after Qcon and I think the other half would have a mini stroke if I told her I was going to play games for the weekend before we get married

But I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any other events you guys might be running. Belfast is just a little over 90 minutes from where I live so it's not a massive chore to get up there every now and then

Yeah I prefer the new scheme over the original  ( altho its good too ).

The firestorm scene here is slowly starting to grow, we have around 8 players in Belfast area and a few more up near Derry/Londonderry, we are running a FSA tourney at Qcon at queens uni this year for the first time, if you are about.
