My RoF are finally complete after waiting for a long time on my skimmers to arrive, here are some pictures:
I also had a friend cut some flight stands indicating the plane type and unit strength, very handy to have
And of course we did not forget to give the skimmer thrusters a nice finish
Now this chapter is closed it will be time for me to start on my submarine fleet.

Ok, I said I would post a write up of an unusual game I played last week. You will have to forgive me if I am a little vague on details and unfortunately there are no pictures. I really must get in the habit of taking some when I use odd lists.
I decided to try out a list type that was being talked about on the KoB forums against a chinese list that was to be used in a tournament (apparently it came 2nd, although I blame the player who has a stupid amount of luck when rolling 6s)
The lists looked like this
KoB (with FSA and Black Wolf allies) 1000 points
Vengeance sub (commodore)
Vengeance sub
3x Vanguard subs
5x Valiant subs
-----------------
1x Boston sub (with 6 turtles)
2x Revere corvettes
----------------
1x Death Bringer sub
2x Fury corvettes
China 1000 points
Zhanmadao death fortress of OP doom
Mk 1 battleship (the one with a whole town of conscripts on board)
3x Cruisers (more stupidly high AP numbers)
Battlecruiser
4x Frigates (more AP!!!)
3x Frigate
Deployment was quite simple, my adversary advance deployed his battlecruiser behind an island on my right flank, had his death fortress dead centre, supported his battlecruiser with the battleship, had his cruisers on the left flank and then added frigates to either side.
First turn saw my opponent very stressed about my fleet, he had only a few squads of torp bombers to kill subs, everything else would be half AD. His initial shots did very little except for his stupidly-powerful-and-stupidly-unkillable Zhanmadao which linked its turrets and laid a critical hit on one of the Vanguard subs. It surfaced but I activated it next to sink it back beneath the waves. His other firing, due to the half AD to hit subs, mostly did nothing except for destroying the a corvette after I charged them forward.
My opening turn saw much laughter as his firepower was neutralised, this would be short lived however when it became clear that strong torp salvos are easily beaten off with a few 6s from CC. My Revere corvettes charged forward and missed their shots but baited his frigates forward. My Furys sped up to ambush them with devastating guns and... did a single point of damage. Rugged construction on a small with DR4 is annoying. My trusty submarines fared poorly, the Vanguards (always a stand out unit, I love these chainsaw subs!) put a crit on an enemy cruiser and everything else was beaten away with CC. This was partly because, as stated before, my opponent rolls stupid amounts of 6s and also because I did not ever shoot from the surface, so the penalty to hit cost me a few damage points here and there.
In terms of movement all my stuff went forward pretty much as fast as it could, turtle tiny subs being sure to stay out of my own torpedo lanes.
Turn 2 saw some more action. My opponent used his leftmost frigate squad to eliminate both my corvette squads through use of guns and broadsides. I used the time to intercept a torp bomber SAW using fighters, knocking it out of the sky.
My torps continued to fail me whilst my opponent laid 2 crits on my rightmost vengeance (and commodore vessel) using the Zhanmadao turrets and battleship broadsides. Unluckily one of those was chaos and disaray, rendering my torps unusable. He was also careful to stay out of chainsaw range.
Foolishly, I disregarded a key tactic (stay below the waves so can't be boarded) with the Deathbringer, not realising his frigate squad would be in boarding range. I maneuvered to get a clear shot and blasted at his battlecruiser, causing a crit and a point of damage. My TAC to swift maneuver was cancelled and my opponent moved his frigates up, CCd a crit onto my vengeance (now with only 2 health left) and prized my Deathbringer. This was not good.
Here I misread the Deathbringer's card as meaning strategic value 150 to every opponent, not just russia. I therefore thought salvaging it was a must to keep my opponent from victory. I surfaced my vengeance, chainsawed two frigates out of my way and declared a boarding attempt... only to be reminded that chaos and disarray meant no boarding. Tactical mistake? Yes. Very. Luckily there was no boarding threat around to take advantage of my suddenly vulnerable flagship.
The rest of the turn involved one of his cruisers dieing to torpedo fire. My Valiants pulling the boarding teeth from his left frigate squad and then sinking beneath the waves. His 2nd torp bomber squadron learning that deep diving is a very good defence against torp bombers with only hunter submerged and my Vanguards leaving their original trajectory and turning to support my crumbling right flank. Oh and my Boston being crited and nav locked. Not good for a fixed channel gun.
Turn 3 saw the demise of the submarine list. I won initiative and chose to use my terribly damaged righthand vengeance. Instead of choosing the clever option and hiding under the sea, I chose to try and ram his battleship. This did not go as intended, as I did not have the maneuvering room to turn my large sub without colliding with a remaining frigate. The frigate died but I could no longer turn, meaning I ended my movement just a few centimeters ahead of his battleship.
So guess what he activated! His battleship collided with the vengeance and caused no damage, my Vengeance on the other hand caused a single point, making him roll on the collision table...... CHAOS AND DISARRAY! His mountain of AP couldn't board me! One fluffed flamethrower roll later and my commodore lived... for a little while.
I used the opportunity to ram a cruiser with my other Vengeance but then failed my swift maneuver. His remaining cruiser sailed up and attempted to board, but due to staggeringly bad dice rolls on both sides, caused only 2 AP deaths on the submarine and lost only 3 AP to ack-ack/submarine AP.
My valiant Valiants torped the cruiser to cause a crit, then his Zhanmadao decided to make its presence felt. It moved to almost dead centre of the board, put another crit on my Boston with turrets, roasted a Vanguard to death (Broken unit! Argh!) and boarded the undamaged Vengeance. My ack-ack chewed up his elite crew and my remaining AP fought bravely, killing 7 of the 8 crew he sent across. He decided to derelict me.
My two remaining Vanguards, unable to link their weaponry or board, turned sharply round an island and lined up on the Zhanmadao. Powered up by a Brace for Impact Tac card (making them IR 9!!) they charged at the nasty fortress city. One was just out of range, but the other... CHAINSAW SUBS FTW!!! A Critical hit + Hull breaker.
My elation did not last long however, as his battered battlecruiser slooped around and prized my commodore with hardly any fight at all (concussive hits had taken their toll). My submarine flotilla hardly noticed, not a single squadron broke.
After a quick points calculation it became very clear there was only one way to scrape a win, and my opponent may have just handed it to me. (He does this from time to time.)
I charged my turtle assault subs forward (they had lost 1 member due to some frigates) and boarded the Zhanmadao. His ack-ack shot down 3 subs worth, but that meant I rolled 4 reckless dice. Against only 3 crew! Well, turns out the Zhanmadao has security posts (3) (MENTAL!!!!) and blocked all but 1 hit.
I had only one more arrow to my quiver, one more chance. The unit that had been neutered from turn 2 onwards. The mighty Boston! There was nothing in it's fixed channel but it could get into boarding range! 7 Aggressive AP flew at the Zhanmadao, 2 died to ack-ack and then the battle was on. I needed to score 5 hits to get past his security posts and claim the vessel as my own. The dice rolled, he killed another 2 crew with his elite survivors but my aggressive American allies scored 5 hits! Just enough to clear the security posts and prize the ship!
A few junk activations later and we ended the game, a narrow victory for the Grand Coalition due to the prized Zhanmadao, a good hoard of TAC cards and some dead cruisers/frigates., but at the cost of every large sub being prized.
So it was a cool game utilising an interesting list, but it would have been a flat out slaughter if my opponent had not been so reckless with his Zhanmadao AP. Derelicting my vengenace may have been worth 150 points, but it ultimately cost him the game. Without him doing that the game would have gone into turn 4, where his battleship could have caused havoc amongst my remaining vangaurds and the Boston would have been mauled by the Zhanmadao. Being more parsimonious with cancelling my TAC cards would also have made the margin of victory too slim to call it even a narrow victory.
A few points I have observed about sub-heavy lists.
Whilst I lost very few models to enemy firepower (basically the corvettes, a vanguard, a turtle and a valiant) I also caused very little harm. The torpedos were universally too weak to get through the CC of tough vessels (not what they are for, I know, but it was the only weapon I had) although the Vanguard squad throws out enough firepower to deal with low CC cruisers. Both scrapyards for this game were very empty until my ramming subs cleared out some smalls.
This contributes to the next point, any sub that surfaces can expect to die to boarding or firepower very quickly, and all the subs need to surface to be effective. If your Alpha Strike fails then you are a sitting duck.
The aggressive boarding potential of the sub list is reasonable, but reasonable is not good enough against the buckets of AP on chinese vessels, unless the Chinese player makes a silly mistake.
I wish the valiant could be taken as an escort sub for the Vengeance, it would make the squadron so much stronger on the offensive.
In conclusion, sub lists can be fun but the end result in a RB1 bloodbath since neither force suffers much damage until it gets there.
Chinese frigates are evil evil evil evil. Strong weapons, phenominal boarding, obscene durability. A bit like the rest of the fleet, but more pronounced when compared to other frigates.
Vanguards are awesome. Simple as.
Oh, and it turns out the best way to put damage on a Zhanmadao is to ram a chainsaw through it! Admirals of the world, rejoice! We have a tactic that can scratch the damn thing!
Just to look at the french possibilities without their heat lances:
