    Planetfall ORBATS V6 - LIVE!

Yeah, I'm still here; and no updates I feel cleared enough to mention.

    Planetfall ORBATS V6 - LIVE!

Can't help you much Urlock, the Halo rush + shakeup at HQ stalled playtesting. Come Feb 23rd our latest playtest files will be 1 year old.

Where are the Alliance Core Helix?

As someone in the testing group... I have no clue. That's not me being vague, obeying the NDA I signed, or trying to be an ass; I legitimately have little to no information.

    Franken-threading.

Technically it's 24-Feb-2015. But as I was saying in the original post, we had things pretty well nailed down before April 2015 and a new FAQ was at the time unnecessary. It wasn't until October/November 2015 that one became a good idea, about the same time both playtesting and the new projects swamped Spartan and the vetran players. This is why there is no FAQ.

    Pass Activations

Actually I've done that with my Core Helix as I like to run my lights and mediums in paired units. Gets kinda confusing when 10 Letos are running around together.

    Pass Activations

I've almost taken to printing out the stat cards here on the forums and grouping them by helix so I can track what has and hasn't activated. Actually it'd be nice if someone came out with a token set for each race that rep'd each unit for the helices. Transfer the token from available to activated, once all the tokens are activated you know a new helix is available. Or heck make an app to do it.

    Franken-threading.

This is a subject that has come up multiple times recently, and I felt it needed addressed as as a thread into itself. Most of this was stated in the rules section and is repeated here with some editing. Most of this applies to the rule section but in general practice can be beneficial to most threads. I believe 75%-90% of our playerbase is represented on the forums. Either direct active members, passive readers, or Vanguards and store/club leads that act as representatives of their group form that number. Shortly after release we had the first FAQ then the 1.5 digital book, followed by the forum seeking further clarification on all the changes. We got clarification and it trickled down through the playerbase quickly. At the time there was no need for an FAQ as everyone knew the changes and they were at the top of the forums. For awhile all the rule questions that followed were unique situations, rare stuff that required odd circumstances to even be brought up. Then late 2015 we had a new influx of players... players who never saw the old posts and weren't members of the 1st wave groups. Things would be fine had post titles from the original conversations been clear and concise, not "12 questions from the new update." On top of that most of the old threads became large and unwieldy to search. Us old dogs lived it and still can't hunt down the original threads for "proof" without alot of work. The reality is 99% of the 2nd wave players issues have been addressed in the previous threads. We have the strangest form of thread necromancy going on here I've ever seen that I'm naming Franken-threads. Pieces of older threads are being stitched together, raised, and unknowingly masked as entirely new conversations; not to be realized until a 1.0 player spots them and comments. This post is due to yet another player boom, a third wave, that have found the forums. In order to aid in cutting down on a repeat of history I've made this commentary. Note: None of this is meant to come down on anyone directly, it is merely observations and suggestions on how to prevent further issues and wasted time. How do we stop the Franken-thread plague? 1. Clearly mark your thread for what it is! The recent "Leviathan CQB Ruling" thread is perfect for how to do it, there is no question that it is about Levi CQB and NOTHING ELSE. "First Game Rule Questions" in the Rule questions section is... beyond vague. 2. One Question/Subject per rule thread! Once again, perfect thread there. The only tangent we hit was the reasonings why there are no consolidated FAQs, which is still generally on the subject. Also, a rulebook/ORBAT update is NOT a subject. "Questions on the Relthozan ORBAT update" doesn't work when you have questions about skydropping, nexus designation, and drones that could currently or likely one day apply to other forces. This of course wouldn't apply to "#.# changes" lists/discussions or those addressing inter-force dynamics. 3. See #1 4. See #1 AGAIN! 5. If another question comes up, make a new thread. We've had several clarifications come up that brought up wording issues in another not directly related area. Ex. a rule that uses similar wording or mechanic to another that has come under question. We won't fault you for starting a new valid discussion, heck I'll applaud you for bring the issue to a broader light. 6. If you do inadvertently play Frankenstein and someone links the older thread PLEASE go back and try to read the entire thing. Delay commenting further unless it is a quick clarification question. There is no need for further critiquing the ruling if your concerns were already addressed previously. This applies to anyone commenting on a Franken-thread. If your viewpoint was not brought up previously, and proves to change the ruling this will help cut down on the number of pages someone has to dig through for an answer. If you have a 7, 8, 9,.... feel free to comment, but please keep things constructive. Hopefully this thread can help improve the Planetfall community.

    Leviathan CQB ruling thread

As this has been stated by me before, Spartan has VERY few people that have experience in PDF document editing and creation. This isn't GW with their Black Library division that can pump out new documents weekly. Planetfall has 2.0 in the works, honestly that is the focus right now for PF followed by the allies. If a new Rulebook is coming out soon then an FAQ is redundant unless it's just a conversion guide. (Which as someone who has read all of 2.0 as it stands is also redundant with the number of small changes.) The resources would be wasted and other projects delayed if an FAQ were to be done. Now, looking at the relevant area in 2.0 this issue does appear addressed if that helps ease your concerns. Also, I'd have to poke Derek to confirm this but I believe I know why the rules and ruling contradict. Originally there were 12 leviathans, a firepower and a support/close combat model. Post firepower release a delay was enacted on the second wave of leviathans. As a stopgap to keep the firepower levis relevant for gameplay they were allowed to use their normal CQB in b2b, allowing them some leeway to act defensively as close combat Leviathans in a pinch. Now with the assaults that role is no longer needed from them but still stands as an option. (Though I hope the Cronos is still on the horizon.) Addendum: I also have to comment again on the reason a 1.75 FAQ was likely sidelined before. 75%-90% of our playerbase I believe is represented on the forums. Either direct active members, passive readers, or Vanguards and store/club leads that act as representatives of their group form that number. Shortly after release we had the first FAQ then the 1.5 digital book, followed by the forum seeking further clarification on all the changes. Non-Leviathan models initiating Leviathan CQB

As a sidenote: the PDF is not so much a living Rulebook as it is just a digital copy of what a printed 1.5 Rulebook would be. Spartan doesn't have an enormous art and media department like certain other companies. In fact to my knowledge there are only about 3 staff members with PDF making experience. Hence why the orbats take so long.

No they maintain their normal CQB, this was established previously in another thread. I can't hunt it down at the moment as I'm on my phone.

Anyone heard anything about the Uncharted Seas Update?

There was a beta that expanded the game in some potentially positive ways that... well, disappeared. This is what us UCS players are concerned about, progression. There is zero reason for Spartan to release new models or restart production of the old ones unless it is accompanied by new rules.

Are there plans for expanded faction lore?

One key factor in your comments about Depth social roles, the males are ALL warriors. They aren't limited by caste, but are by gender. However the Relth shift has more to do with practically for inclusion in gamestyles that weren't concepts when the FSA lore came out. With Planetfall we needed a big biological model force. A giant "kaiju" army to face the giant mecha of the human forces. Ditto for a swarm army, yeah the Terrans would have done well too, but to counterbalance the "big monsters" little easy to kill individually swarms works. None of that implicitly contradicts the old lore, until the little guys became organic. This is where the retcon had to happen, and the problem isn't Planetfall, it's really Spec Ops fault. 28mm inclose game on a 4'x4' board; 6" tall even more wide spiders... don't work. And being told that you're suddenly the robot army, ditto. Making the infantry organic was the obvious answer. I always looked at the Relth like feudal samurai anyway, honorable cultured highly intelligent warriors. A society that values the sink or swim at everything you do mentality. Throwing the warrior brood into combat with only the most necessary training? Survival of the strongest/smartest/skilled for the betterment of the race as a whole? Right in line with the lore. They only at first glance look like the generic bug race. However the generic bug race tactic is to throw waves of cannon fodder while the monsters wade up thru their ranks. That's not the Relth way, Relth favor weaving through terrain tactically for precision strikes and dropping in reinforcements on pivotal objectives. They're more Predator than Xenomorph, and that's exactly what I see their lore saying.

They had to tweak it a little. Else we'd have 30' 8 legged close combat masters for the Relthoza and scaled monks (also close combat masters) for the Soryllians.

Are there plans for expanded faction lore?

Looks like for the moment PF has to lean on FSA's old books for lore. In point of fact I believe only DW has current lore docs at the moment.
