theIronSoldier reacted to vedalslayer in My Italian Fleet
After quite sometime, my Italian fleet is completed .  I went for a very simple colour scheme but I think it works ok.  You'll have already seen the battleship in the Italian Fleet Colour Scheme Database so here is the rest of the flock.  Bombers aren't done yet and the many, many tiny flyer / tiny torpedo boat tokens are not yet finished but the naval fleet itself is done.

Comments most welcome as this is the first fleet I have completely painted up, my vast Firestorm RSN and Dystopian Wars Prussians not all done.

    Thanks all

With the Aussie BB, I was thinking of coming up from the bottom of the hull to put two magnets on the ship and then having one on the slide.

I've just finished painting my League of Italian States fleet.  Congratulations to the Spartan designer/sculptor, these are some beautiful models!  I decided on a light coloured dazzle/zebra pattern to highlight the sleek lines of the ships (although I was briefly tempted by the dress white and gold filigree of the Spartan fleet).  It consists of 1 x Carrier, 4 x Destroyer, 2 x Battleships, 6 x Cruiser, 16 x Frigate/Escort, 4 x Bomber, 16 x Tiny Flyer Token and 12 x Motor Torpedo Boats.

I haven't posted anything in a while, but lots of lurking! I thought I would throw this up. I had a lot of fun painting this model; it is truly one of the greats in the game. I did the fleur de lis with a small stencil. I don't think there are many applications for these, but flight decks without TF are perfect. More pictures on my blog:

Hello fellow Dystopiates! Just posting this for anyone painting out there who might come across it and find it useful.
I chose a ww2 Japanese aircraft color theme for the army. I was worried that it might end up looking like a large CLOWN fleet. But, I think in the end it really tuned out quite eye-catching, if I do say so myself!

theIronSoldier got a reaction from KiltedWolf in Make An New Official Rulebook Or Quickstart Rules!
@Pendrake: There is nothing wrong with having a better online database, but the fact is as long as there isn't a functional, paper set of rules the problem isn't solved.
What do we tell new players? "You have to go online to find that rule.... " or "Yeah, spend 60 quid on rulebooks that you basically need a constant connection to the internet to use."
Are we supposed to have a laptop handy at every game so that we can paw through a page of search results to find... a bunch of forum goon arguments?
That sounds like more time wasted than less.
I hope Spartan Games is hearing this loud and clear: Awesome game, we want more people to play, and your company to make you all enough money to be happy, BUT WE NEED A SINGLE FUNCTIONAL RULEBOOK

The problem is with the CORE RULES, not minor additions (MAR's etc.)
I am sure the play-testers and staff of Spartan know exactly how to play DW. The problem is they haven't told the rest of us in a clear, straightforward manner.
Have you ever been to a game group where the person explaining the rules to a new game can't put things in order and keeps contradicting themselves? Its incredibly frustrating, even if you know the game is really worth playing. This is exactly what using the rule book is like.
The fact that a veteran player can say this is exactly my point
How can LOS still be confusing?! Its LOS! Its totally basic to every wargame ever made. And yet every single game I have played has ground to a halt while we try to figure out what all those conflicting diagrams really mean!
I am fairly certain that someone could produce a clear, tidy CORE rulebook for this game that is under 20-30 pages long. What I (and I am sure many other players at this point) would like is something like that.
    - Make it a PDF (at least available free for those of us who already bought a rulebook)
    - Make it fluff free (I love the back story, but not while trying to actually play)
    - Make it well organized (explain everything in the right order, keeping similar topics together)
    - Make it with a totally comprehensive index
    - Make it with quickstart rules for introducing new players

theIronSoldier reacted to myth28 in how much would you pay for a model ?
i too sell a lot of painted miniatures , and put myself in the "better than average but not as good as a proffesional " category of painter.

i find that most of my customers fall into the category of people who love models (of any game system) but who have no modelling or painting skill. Some of them are gamers who want to play with a painted fleet others just want to collect minis , whatever the reason it helps to sustain my Dytstopian habbit and since i prefer the modeling/painting side of the hobby anyway , its all good

@AndyT: As I also sell painted models on Ebay I regularly check to see whats out there. I have always admired your work!

I think I fit into a small niche market of just-better-enough-than-average-to-sell. I have never had any trouble selling items, but they certainly don't go for a premium: just enough to let me wargame for free!

Out of curiousity, do you guys use airbrushes, and if so what is your set up? I am thinking of getting one, but I don't know how useful it will be for DW scale.

I may try out iron soldier's build today. The only thing i can think of is that while tactically dolphin dipper makes sense, the idea behind the mar doesn't seem to fit with the vanguard.
I was wondering how to make it a torpedo boat and a sustainable ramming ship without going too 'OP' and i must say aft torps never occurred to me! On paper that seems like the perfect answer, will have to test it

    Keep it a ramming vessel.

Up speed to a natural 9 (same as cruisers)

    Drop Experienced Engin. MAR

Add Iron Ram and Dolphin Dipper (I know that's a CoA thing, but I don't want to invent a new MAR)

Replace broadsides with Aft Torps, fixed channel (nearly all actual subs would have rear torps.)

    Keep everything else the same.

The temperature and humidity that you leave the models in when you prime them is very important if it is cold and or wet the primer doesn't stick anywhere near as well this is an issue living in the UK

I like the look of these models, but it always irks me to see ships designed with the smoke stack IN FRONT of the bridge. This would be a disaster in real life. But oh well... these look really really cool and I am excited to learn the new rules, including those for the small boats. Fun stuff!
