I noticed during the tribal debate that A) we do not have a level of surface ship that fills the light cruiser role and the vanguard while nice for some jobs doesn't always do it.

Also..the hawk scout rotor and the foxhound recon tank both support a charming sort of fun weapon design. I thought I'd try to put that into a resonable seeming surface vessel!

In response to the massive losses from fast moving raiding fleets along the long supply routs cross the Atlantic and around the cape of the horn the Royal Navy commissioned a long range vessel cruiser like vessel able to travel, track down, and report the positions of enemy assets while making it's own escape. To allow maximum space for communications equipment, engines, and supplies the vessel has a minimal combat crew and a smaller number of auxillery weapons than is typical. Automatic mine layers and fixed repeating cannons mean that the entire vessel can be operated from the bridge and engineering section, the entirety of the armory automated by conveyor loading and air-fighter like belt fed munitions.

Fluff justifications for a RC vs FSA fight:

Rogue Commanders. I wrote a backstory for my own use where a slightly insane Russian governor of Alaska basically decides that the little voices told him to attack America. Similarly, a gung-ho American commander could decide to 'take Alaska back from those Ivans' (you can't say Commies in this universe ha) Factional discrepancies. I like the idea of a Northern dissidents faction in the FSA, perhaps they declare the reformation of the USA and decide to seize Alaska as their base? Or alternatively, perhaps the Russian fleet is crewed by disaffected supporters of the Romanovs or some Imperial pretender, the FSA is doing the Coalition a favour by taking them on. They aren't actually them. The Russian ships may be crewed by mercenaries, or pirates, or captured ships leased to client peoples of the EotBS (the Dutch for example). Similarly, the FSA ships may have been sold to a potentially anti-Russian entity. Training exercise. The go to explanation for 'friendly fire' incidents Conflict of interest. I don't care if the Russians are here, we are getting that sturginium site now! Don't hesitate to fire if they stray to close.... I won't squawk over a few dead Ivans. Back in time. The Bering Incident and the Northern War is a canon occasion for battle between the FSA and the RC. Sideways in time. What if it never ended? What if the Americans seized Alaska? Make a new story up! All sorts of ways to go

They crippled a hood and mined 2 units of frigates into the next life. Aviatotry Bliss my bushy tailed friend.

They are really difficult to remove if flying high. Even with the penalties to hit they can cause damage on mediums then cause crits with piercing.
I love them. L.O.V.E them. If they were a lady I would take her out for Gin and vittles, then get up inside her petticoat.

Doncasters are equally amazing. I always felt their ack was too high. they are memphis belle not an AC-130!
The reason for their points increase is the change of rules for bombing. Doncasters can now bomb, with bombs, which is nice for a bomber!

The MKII were O-Freaking-P before, and i dont say that much about British 1.1! I brought 2 squadrons of 4 to a 1.1 land tourney and everything around them died, got boarded or cacked itself in terror. They have lost the 180 arc because i feel because they would be harrowingly good with rounded up dice. They were also too good as an assault unit with 12 AP a squad. What they still have is the ability to fire at three different targets, with piercing foreguns, for 40pts. Throw in that if near the Royal Oak they get 2 shield dice...bargin!

For me it’s a dangerous move to post an “OP” post. You will always be met with some pretty over the top comments that disagree with your point of view. In my experience they fall into 4 main categories
Actual comments and discussion from players that have played with/against unit x that disagree with you for logical reasons x Much more helpful and interesting You just aren’t playing the correct strategies to defeat x Ok Slightly helpful but doesn’t address the original subject on a units Game Balance! Spartan Games are perfect and you have no idea what your talking about. In no way helpful (falls into I will gladly wash the peoples tractor category) People who own unit/fleet x and are fully aware how op it/they are but don’t want           to loose their advantage over their opponents.
Unfortunately way to common and very unsportsmanlike. Dystopian wars is only the second war-game I’ve ever played and these forums the first I’ve participated on any subject really. I have started a few “this unit/fleet is broken “
threads and been quite shocked by the response of fellow forum members. I had naively believed that the whole purpose of such discussion threads was to discuss other’s points of view on matters relating to our chosen pastime. Its interesting how many members dismiss out of hand all such posts but the truth is sometimes Spartan just get it wrong.
Does this make them a BAD game company? The answer is No , because on more than just a few occasions they have gone “oops” and fixed a mistake. And I’m sure part of their realization of a problem would come from these forum discussions. I remember being extremely miffed the first time I had an arronax teleported against my dred and lost it to boarding and nearly a whole squad of frigates to its particle cannon in the first turn.
By the third game of being on the receiving end of maggot attacks with similar outcomes I posted my “I hate teleporting maggots thread” and was promptly shouted down on everything from my understanding of the rules to my poor tactical prowess on the game board. The point is the whole Arronax / teleporting orb thing is now banned (in DW2) and robot boarding altered to a point where 1 shot boarding against large/massive targets is unlikely to be an instant win scenario.
I am all for spirited debate but the forum needs to be a place where a user can post a point of view and then engage in logical discussion J

I agree, but... Im going to put that down to your being new to internet gaming forums.
Usually someone comes in, screams about something being OP or UP, and its just to whine, or just to start a fight. Theres no guarantee of maturity just because youve got a browser window open, and not everyone is capable of having a real discussion on subjects that are close to them. Now, the first couple of times your average joe tries, and finds this wall that is peoples emotional/self interested reactions.
The Nth time? They just assume thats what youre up to, and jump straight to doing it themselves because why not?
Its why the internet, while a great tool, is not the best snapshot of what balance is in a game.
Eventually you learn to filter out the people who have nothing worth saying, or only parroting the party line they heard and reheard the last ten times this came up.

Now that IS a question ..... and one likely to elicit a long answer.....

If I were to truncate slightly, it would probably be easier to say that ALL forces have changed.

    Looking at the Core-7

KOB are considerably improved with the changes to their Primary Weaponry, the Linking Mechanic and their ability to Repair [a VERY important part of DW2....] meaning they are in the game for longer, with better firepower.

PE have built a very strong synergy base with their Tesla+Speerschleuders and maintain their boarding focus too. All Tesla Weaponry has the Lethal Munitions Type.....ensuring that a point of DR causes AP loss...meaning that the PE now can effectively hamstring a target before boarding to kill it with multiple attacks from various directions.

FSA have built upon their Gunnery Fleet moniker with a good array of models, but have lost their previous AP superiority on the Sea.....an FSA fleet that wishes to board heavily should look to Armoured or Air. Many cited the FSA as an overpowered fleet in 1.1, but in truth it was the spamming of certain models that caused an issue....something that has been changed in 2.0 through stat changes and Force Creation changes.

The EoBS have the mixed weaponry concept as they did before, but this time around the intent is to ensure that their models have an optimum weapon system at each range band [where the multi-system exists on a mode]. They excel at RB1+2 and have a good AP base upon which to finish targets. The Generators are a powerful part of their fleet too with generatros such as the Disruption, Fury and Sonic becoming very powerful. In short, the EoBS are a powerful synergy fleet that excels in RB1+2 [very similar to the Prussians] with an ability to work well at RB3+4 through certain tactics and fleet selections if the player chooses.

COA have built upon the changes that came out in the Euclid box, with Energy Weapons getting a place in the core rules rather than in a Fleet Guide. Particle Accelerators have been changed in their core mechanics to make it feel more like a RB1+2 'shotgun', capable of clearing small threats......[there was a serious statistical problem with the old rules....but I digress]

The Covenant have MOST their old tricks and a few new ones, but the days of the 'I'm-so-clever-I-can-teleport-a-Battleship-into-your-lines' have gone..... HOORAY!..... in replacement players can deploy a Portal that allows them to teleport whole squadrons [the size of which are dependent on the model deploying the portal]...... players should beware however......the portal is a 2-way-street.....the enemy might be able to come through too! This simple change makes the use of this technology a true tactical choice rather than a no-brainer.

Oh, and finally COA drones have changed....but that's a discussion for another time.

RoF were always hampered by the design of their models as regards their ability to link..... This has been changed in 2.0 with the change to all RoF turrets to Secondary Weapons [...yes....that means they can link with their Broadsides!...] Also, the statistically incongruous Heat Lance/Lancette has undergone an considerable overhaul, removing the DR multiplier to having a more stable AD spread and some really cool Munitions types- This means that a RoF player now has a weapon system that can damage and effect any target in the game.....AND it allows for Attachments/Specialist Group Squadrons/cheaper HL vessels.

The ROF have a high AA score as they always did but we toned it down a bit....and gave them Redoubtable AA instead - this allows us to represent their dependable AA without making their AA levels bonkers! It also allows for a mirroring with their long term enemies the KoB [with their Redoubtable Turrets] and their long term Allies, the Prussians [with their Redoubtable Teslas]

RC have had a huge change in their Ablative Armour Rule....rather than being a one-trick-pony, AB-A is now a permanent MAR. Up until a model has lost more than half AP it gains a bonus to its DR+CR equal to the value listed in the models' MAR.....after that however, it gains the Vulnerable MAR as well!.....of course, should the crafty Russian player have a few repair models nearby....this might put the model back to its improved value once more! This makes the Russians the true tanks of DW2 and a very tough nut to crack.
