To me, a Town is usually more than one building. If I use buildings as a terrain feature, then I'm deploying 10 of them scattered in a 6" circle as a town, or lots arranged into a 7 x 4 Block to represent a factory complex....

I know the rule book doesn't explicitly say  how many buildings equal one terrain feature, but we did assume people have some common sense!

Unless specifically stated otherwise, MARs do not stack.

Some time ago, we had someone argue the combat co-ordinator( sub hunting stuff, +1 ) on the dominion support cruiser stacked, so the unit of 3  gave  +3 to  hit submarines.....

If you have the XYZ MAR, you have the MAR, it does not matter how many times you have it, you still just have it.

Generators on models that are scrapped.

The weather generator explicitly says if at any point the squadron does not have sufficient generator points to maintain the storm(s), then the storm(s) are removed.  If a model is scrapped, then it is not providing generator points.

The others that put down templates- Glacier, Time flow, etc specify their templates are removed at the end of the turn, so they are, regardless of if the model that created it is scrapped or not.

Any collision via teleport results in a Ram, with extra damage rules. See quoted page

3.No idea on that one. Commodore has to be in main force, but I can't think of obscured or submerged restrictions....

It originally started as as a way to kill snaking absolutely totally dead, but grew from there as we found we liked it.

I use lots of buildings in the land game as scenery. 360 move allows small and medium units to thread their way through a town, using it for cover, which looks and feel right!

If people are unwilling to provide battle reports for the Alliance nations because they are not up to date enough and you don't want to help update them,  they could instead provide them featuring the Prussian, Blazing Sun or Covernant Dreadnought robots.  I  understand there are a few people who have quite strong opinions about them.

If you would like to help inform any changes to them, please do contribute battle reports. Make them usefully detailed, and explain why ( in broad terms) you choose to take unit X, or do  action Y.
I would prefer reports from larger games- the feedback that a 350 point unit dominates a 800 point game is not very informative or useful.
If you believe they are unbalanced, then make the game balanced- give the side without one an extra 50/100/150 points!

If the dice in a testing game are really odd, do use what we call the  'Tester's re-roll'. For example, you know that the 12 AD attack on the Battle cruiser should manage one Critical hit with average dice.  If the dice hate you, and teleport it into the centre of the fleet, where it promptly suffers a magazine explosion and cripples half your fleet...at that point, re-rolling the crit to get something that more normal, or even just re-rolling the direction  of the teleport, although less cinematic, is much more useful for providing information about how the units or forces in question actually play!

EDIT/ As I'm sure some people will have worked out , there will be a minor Orbat update for at least three of the great powers around the end of this month. If  you have things you want us to tweak in them, by far the best way to bring them to our attention is battle reports.  Special allowance for simple typos, those don't need reports to back them up.../EDIT

It is a truth universally acknowledged that an Orbat to be updated must be in the possession of good feedback, (which is superior to sarcasm, but far harder to acquire)

Seriously, we can only do so many tests in a small team. Good quality feedback from the wider player base is very useful.  The Battle reports thread provides a nice overall view, and certain posters, such as Big Mac, keep giving us  nicely reported battles, but we want more reports. Without this information it is very hard to tell what people find too good, not good enough, or simply not right.
Other than simple typos ( the cruiser unit is not squadron size 23!) feedback is only useful in the form of battle reports showing how they get used in context, rather that two line posts that XXX is aweful and YYY needs to be nerfed hard.

Both KoB and French observers agree there was a significant clash between Covenant forces and Unidentified Mercenaries. Due to the hostile actions of the convoys in this important shipping Lane, both coasts fired rather accurate 'warning shots' and later agreed a brief ceasefire to recover survivors and clear wreckage from their side of the Channel

Italians Clashed with Ottomans over something diplomatic
1500 points- Minor victory to the Ottomans, thanks to very clever use of mines, and Italian engineers being unable to fix corrosion even if their ships depended on it.

    The Kattegat
The Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth were in morning for the loss of almost the entire Gdansk Fleet. The catastrophe was reported by the sole survivor, a cruiser that was teleported far away from the carnage by a freak hit. Their sacrifice was not in vain, as they turned aside the Danish Fleet.

The East India Company report the delayed arrival of most of convoy TX 17 in India. They suffered a heavy attack by Pirates en route. LLoyds of London have raised the premiums for coverage in the area, and will insist on heavier escorts for the region to cover at all.
In an entirely unrelated matter, several members of the Brittanian Parliament  raised a Private Member bill increasing the bounty on the head of the Captain of the Black Wolf by a further 50,000 pounds, which was swiftly passed. Allegations by the press this is as the members concerned are major shareholders of the East India Co are  outrageous intrusions into the private affairs of persons above reproach.

    Ah gentlemen,

I find myself reading these posts and gently shaking my head.  Whatever happened to patience?  And before any of you say anything - I "possibly" have less reason than most of you to be patient - as I would be willing to bet a fair wad of cash that I am probably older than the vast majority of you on these forums - I have been playing competative wargames since the 70's - that's right, go and do the maths.

And you get to a certain point in life when you have more years behind you that you have in front of you - and I really would like things "now".  However, I am more than happy playing games with my buddies (about 10 of us at the local club who play D Wars, most of them younger than my sons - but they accept me quite happily as I have a pretty good conservatory fitted out for gaming) and enjoying the various nations' stats as they are at present.  Yes, I was very pleased when I saw how my Brit fleet had been "improved".  When I saw the "points hike" that my Russians had suffered - well, they do rock, don't they.  What can I expect to happen to my Chinese when the new stats come out?  Well I really have no idea - but until they do change I am very happy to keep playing with them as they are.

So I really don't know why everyone is getting so fired up about "new stats" - enjoy your games as they are just now, and then "rediscover" old units when the stats do get a change - whenever that is.  Let's give Spartan a bit of credit for producing a marvellous game (well, several actually) and cut them a bit of slack.  Life really is too short boys (and I do know this for a fact!).

Enjoy your gaming - and my New Year's resolution?  To get more games played in 2016 than I did last year.

And I played an awful lot last year!!!

It seems pretty obvious that he is saying to test the ORBATs we have and give feedback on them.
All of the ally ORBATS are getting updated, they need more information to do that.  And that is very understandable, why update the ORBATs just to get the information you need to update them again as soon as you release them.

My guess would be that for the most part the way the designers play the game and the way many of the players do aren't always the same.  They after all have their own idea of "how the game was meant to be played" and they don't have any real restrictions on what they have available to take (not having to buy the models themselves to build an army to test).  Given the context of the statement, they probably don't see the same overpoweredness or weakness of the units some people are complaining about or at least to the same degree.  Without a good consensus how much something needs to be buffed or nerfed (or simply have the points cost changed) it is hard to find that good balance point.

Like when we read some of the threads and someone is complaining that support unit XXX didn't earn its points back in 5 games, that is kind of meaningless because it is a support unit, the real question is what did it do to help your other units do their job better or keep the opponent from doing more.

Are the Ottoman's weak because their ships don't have enough firepower, or because they die to easily?  Or is it  because they have very little air support and their SAWs just don't cut it against opponents with good air support?  Maybe their lack of boarding options makes taking out enemy dreadnoughts very difficult.  Does their list feel more capable and better when it is supported by allies that cover air support and boarding?  Do they need more screening and spotting units?  Are terrain heavy boards in their favor or put them at a disadvantage?
Is their problems the same at 1000 points and 2000 points?

I would say the first step is to pick your favorite ally force and build a well balanced list and a list trying to exploit its strengths as much as possible and put them against various opponents and see where the lists fail.  Keep an eye on individual models and how they do, but overall keep track of what you can and can't handle, what is stopping the army as a whole from dealing with what your opponents can throw at you.

I have been working on a number of different scenarios  for Dystopian Wars. Some of these have been played through a couple of times and have had most of the details figured out, some have yet to be polished up!

Some of them will be quite specific as regards the forces to use, others will have virtually no restrictions at all.  In general, the ones with no restrictions are best played with a rounded, all comers type force- it is quite easy to build a force to do very well in one scenario, if you know which one you will play in advance, but if you don't know which one you'll be playing, these unbalanced forces are unlikely to be a good idea.

Some specify a theatre, others can be set on Land or at Sea.

Most ( hopefully all) of them do not use victory points (VPs), but instead use Scenario Points (SPs) to determine the winner. I am aiming  for each scenario to have a maximum score of about 20 SPs  at the recommended points level. This is to make them suitable for tournaments and the like, to give a choice of scenarios with the same possible score, but this may take some tweaking of the values in each scenarios victory conditions.
Clearly, for a tournament, you'd want several scenarios with the same core, points limits, and force building restrictions, whereas the ones with quite specific forces are better suited to campaigns, or a sunday afternoon gaming when you look at the shelf and decide to use some uncommon stuff!

To make this thread easy for people to use, I will maintain an index of all the scenarios in this first post, and link to subsequent posts within the thread, that will have one scenario each. This will allow me to make  changes to scenarios as I get useful feedback from people!

I welcome constructive feedback from people, but I much prefer feedback and questions based on games you have actually played, not theory-craft or hypothetical questions.

I have included a number currently under development, some which are no more than an archetypal historical scenario to use as a basis, and will be developed over time!

Recon has shown significant construction activity here, building a major aviation centre. It could be an advance strike base for a Great power, or an important centre of operations for one of the groups of Privateers/Mercenaries/Pirates that stalk the seas. Normally, there is a significant fleet to  protect it, but for a brief opportunity, it is lightly defended. This is the the time to strike and remove this threat from the sector....

IMHO there is no point in comparing the stats of DW units of the older editions with the current one. With the 2nd ed the game has been significantly rebalanced. Not only one nation or some class of units. In the earlier editions it was all about the extremes. The smallest and largest units were the decicive ones with the others barely playing a role and being concidered wasted points that had to be spend because of the rules by most players. This was more extreme for some nations. This has been fixed. As a result smalls became more expensive across the board while their capabilities have been limited at the same time.

Currently for the PE the smalls are still very potent. More potent than the ones of most other nations.
The Arminius and Saxony carry tesla turrets for example. This means they synergise with Speerschleuders. This advantage might not seem great but its somthing other nations don't have. In addition to that the Arminius as AP2 with aggresive crew. That fits the PE very well.
Just using the Arminius and Saxony as boarder means limiting them and wasting potential. This has nothing to do with them being underpowered or to expensive. Its just not using them right.
The Stolz, while its sad that it lost RB3 firepower is still extremly potent. You might have overlooked that is has piercing munitions and pack tactis 2. The firepower a units of Stolz can pump out at RB2 and 1 is brutal. With piercing even if you spred the AD of a unit on multipe targets they really hurt. They should not be under estimated. It is true though that 160 pts is quite a lot for a ~1000 pts battle. Stolz are easiert to integrate in a fleet in larger battles.

The Zerstörer is a very effective unit. Either it will soak up firepower when the other player attempts to neutalise it befor it delvers its payload or it will put lightning rods on things and stip AP. The Zerstörer works very well with the Saxony and Arminius.
The Speerwurf is a very good all round choice. It has RB3 AD and again will put lighting rods on things. The fact that is a good submarine hunter is just the cherry on top of the cream.
The Jaeger is a solid unit. Not special but not bad. It performs somewhat better against flying targets but its also effective against surface targets. 360° AD is special for small fliers and it can come in really handy at times.

Compared to other nations the PE has a well rounded selection of smalls and all fit with the PE basic modus operandi. Its easy to capitalise on synergies. As a result the PE smalls are user friendly and all can be taken without too much optimising or reliance on special tactics.
