    Warcradle Classics?

This seems to be a common comment. Existing fans are irked that the miniatures they have purchased in significant quantities are not selling now. Could I suggest that a good reason is that the models are classics and designed for a game that is now largely only played by people that own significant fleets etc already? We only ever intended the classics range to be a customer service offering to the existing community. A way to give continuity to your collections and allow you to complete or fill or certain selections. The same is true for WWX. It is regrettable that the Classics offerings have not sold especially well compared to main range releases or to community expectation, but considering the time elapsed since the classic game was in production it is less surprising. The important part was that miniatures have made it into to the hands of fans that would otherwise have to rely on third partirs such as eBay or Facebook selling pages. On the subject of things we find especially irksome, for me it is that Warcradle is being accused of blaming the community for anything. While it's true that there have been a handful of toxic individuals who have had to be taken in hand, they are certainly not reflective of the amazing community that supports the games we make. Regarding those individuals, I do not think aeshva you are one of them, I realise it is comforting for those feeling isolated and embittered to cling to the general community and delude themselves that they are in the same mental space and that their personal views represent a groundswell of opinion. It is perfectly natural to do so. But we have a responsibility to keep the community spaces we look after safe from such self-destructive people.

To anyone at Warcradle, I was getting ready to place an order that included some of the kickstarter stuff that was on the Wayland games site. Now it looks like all of those new models have been pulled from the website. Can someone tell me why? Our group was going to do a big order...

It's likely the classic Firestorm is still played in various clubs and in peoples homes. But like all games that are no longer in active production, its natural for it to become a rarer game on the tabletop. For those that still play the Classic Firestorm Game, we have the Warcradle Classic miniatures to help complete your collections. There is a brand new game called Firestorm Armada in development. It is a new game that we hope appeals to many fans of science fiction space battles. Knowledge of or experience of the Classic Firestorm is completely unnecessary. If you have classic models you will, of course, be able to use them as a 'counts as' in the new Firestorm Armada, but there will be an entire range of new and exciting miniatures to enjoy!

It will be 3 years at the end of 2020. I know it seems like forever. And of course we'd like to have had all the games out sooner but, we were clear we didn't want to rush. The beta will be announced quite soon and we hope you can become enthused about it. The same free rulebook offer will happen for FSA as it has for both WWX and DW.

Agree. Spartan´s rules were very good and ships and scenery were amazing. I am from Spain and I am sure that a good support from the company (like rules and books translated) were very good to expand the game. Spartan Games did not translate the rules and books, and here in Spain it is a problem. Many gamers do not buy games without translation. Anyway, me and my friend (and others), play English games and want a lot of Spartan´s DW and FA ships and scenery.

Ok, why would I buy all new models that are NOT to scale with my 3 fleets that are about 8k in points EACH? Just not impressed with the plans going forward on DW.

More than a little disappointing. A beta version of FA was suppose to happen this fall (so Warcradle stated last year at this time). Silence. Classics of FA take months to be delivered ( I also have 2 orders in). A few sketches of their new version of FA are suppose to appease us? Its been more than 2years - going on 3! A bit more candor would be appreciated. At this point, I am skeptical that FA (or other Spartan games) are returning. I would loved to be proved wrong but the silence is athunderous.

I don't think respect is the case, just a relatively small entity stretching itself to far to fast and with very little understanding of what made the fan base. This is all opinion, as I don't see very many people here on this forum as from the old days, and it is the same handful of naysayers throughout, of which I can claim to be.

    Warcradle Classics?

To me, it shows that Warcradle is not serious about DW. If they were serious about the game, we would have seen a lot more pictures, notes, designs and ideas for future projects. It seems to me they are more worried about WWE and that new 1920's horror game that looks awful. IMO, they should have saved their money and let the game die... Edit: I might be a little harsh, but Warcradle has not really given us anything here to show us that they know what they are doing... C'mon guys, prove us wrong!!!

    Warcradle Classics?

Hmm, really? It's not bad to get money for delivering later without a date. I ordered DW-models in september, some where marked as "items in stock" others as "Restock Expected: Available To Order". I thougt not bad, maybe I have to wait but that is not the problem. 10 days later I got a mail, that Wayland is sorry, but not able to deliver all models. But I have to do nothing, they will send me another information the next week. That second information never arrived. Therefore I opened a ticket october the 25th and asked about the models. I got the return, that they are not able to deliver all models. Because of this I asked for part delivery and two weeks later I got the first 5 models. I thanked for this and asked for information about the rest. First I got no information, therefor I reopned (well it was not really cloesed) the ticket and started the discussion here. The warcradle-guys here are again not able to help. Call the helpdesk.. I'm still in touch with them. They can't give me any date when they are able to deliver the models but offered me a refund. I don't want the money back, I like to get the models. They are a present for my boys. Again, in my opinion it's a very bad behavior to mark 100-200 models of DW as "Restock Expected: Available To Order" but can't even give an information about the date, when they are able to deliver. Poor, only poor... And not a good sign for 3.0. But this is only my single opinion and maybe not representative for the rest of the customer.

    Warcradle Classics?

I'm just confused about the whole reinvent the wheel thing when you just need to bang the thing back into shape. Old argument, done and over with. But I agree that it's been this long, rules haven't been changed in the beta as much, no real nation flavor (that I've seen) has been released, and a constant shuffling of the old game and it's models into a dark closet is wearing thin. I really don't care about WWX, or it's adjoining games. I care that this is kinda what Spartan did with Uncharted, Dystopian, Firestorm, Halo, and the various micro games in each universe that ultimately slowed them down and gave us nothing for long stretches. Please correct me, but I thought they mentioned that they wouldn't be like that, or was that fantasy again.

I think like you. A friend and me are collecting FA and DW and we want to complete our fleets. I think we are not the only ones. You are right. A friend and me began to play Firestorm Armada since 3 or 4 years ago. We were enthusiastic with the ship´s models (really awesome), rules and background. And DW were in our wish list. I fall in love for the DW minis when I saw the Prussian Imperium Sky Fortress for the first time. The end of Spartan Games was a shock for us. And the Warcladle announcement was encouraging. Awesome minis, background and good rules are the best basis as possible. A good job with this legacy could be a secure succes. And periodic (near in time) news are needed. The best way to expand a game is to have enthusiastic gamers (with the game and the company). Then, we need the security of the old model availability and the knowledge of the future of these games. Same: news, news, news....

    Introduce Yourself

I just wanted to say hi. My friends and I recently went to UK Games Expo 2019 and came across Wild West Exodus. We've decided to give it a go, as it look like a lot of fun. Some of us had a demo game while the others watched. My faction will be Hex, though I'm still learning what I can at the moment (more game play may change my mind). Anyone who plays the game and is based in Cardiff, let me know, it would be good to meet others who play the game. Thanks. :)

Fishing for a strike no.2? Not nice, @RuleBritannia, not nice at all On the other hand this is a topic I'm also following with interest, as I also have ships waiting to be moulded. I really want to show that there's still interest in FSA (trying to vote with my wallet), but on the other hand I know, that I'm not really the target audience, so I don't really expect my personal preferences to be taken into consideration (weird huh? Giving someone your money to show that you care, while not expecting that they will care? I'm sure that there's a word for that mental state ). Anyway. All I think I can do is wait. Wait for my ships, wait for the beta, trying to give my feedback for the future generations to enjoy the product, that is probably not designed to appeal to me. But maybe a christmas miracle is about to happen! It's not like warcradle is struggling to meet the demands of holiday orders for their more financiallly sensible lines or trying to build stock for next years Dystopian wars release... oh wait. Sigh. This post turnet out to be a bit of a downer, but there are interesting things just over the horizon! I'm sure a teaser from the new rules would elevate the dreadful winter mood here (hint-hint wink-wink to Big Brother who is always watching)!

    Boxed sets

This would be rather... unfortunate. I can understand the benefits of having a lower (monetary) point of entry, but when someone asks on the forums to make an informed decision, the community will quickly make it obvious, that this is not the "real" starting point. We all have seen it, before The real question is that how will the smaller ships be distributed. If they will be single blisters, Everything will be fine. If they will be squadrons... Well. Spartan tried this method, and as I remember it, it was not fun for the fans... On the bright side: after giving in to fan pressure, the second generation Spartan starter boxes (especially the Dystopian wars boxes) became unbeatable in value. It won't help rebooting the new DW setting, but if the same lesson is learned, the 2nd generation Warcradle starterboxes will be awesome! (... in 3 years... if the game survives)

To be fair rebuilding is going to be darn hard until there's a concrete release date from WC for when they are going to launch the game. Until then its all ticking over really unless your local scene has a lot of legacy ships to play with and you can get into the beta through the FB groups. That said every day we get closer and closer to that magical time when WC announces it!

    Warcradle Classics?

It's not in Waylands interest to sit on money and have outstanding orders. So yes if the mould was broken and WC reported as such to Wayland and the listing was taken down yes they would. Outstanding orders for a retailer aren't free money, they are a bother that costs them in support time to resolve. So its in their interests to make sure orders are delivered and if matters outside of their control mean that it cannot be delivered then processing a refund as quickly as possible is best. Honestly besides the "wayland are slower than others" issue I've never had problems with them. I'd also say that their "slower than others" has improved over time, especially when they updated the site to a live stock display. As for WC right now the public display of a model being removed is when it leaves the Wayland site for ordering.

    Warcradle Classics?

I think WC do have a problem with transparency. Throughout the process they have misspoken, changed their minds and failed to give timetables, and this has trickled down to their supply of Spartan models and even the fact they won't acknowledge that these are Spartan models calling them 'Warcradle Classics'. They have redesigned the game from the bottom up in such a way that they aren't making it backwards compatible and treat their unreliable selling as a favour to us. Things can be turned around and behaviour is improving such as the weekly updates but Warcradle is not as fan friendly as Spartan and we have every right to be suspicious of their treatment.
  39. 2 points
You are right, technology allows to increase the detail of the models. Spartan's designs improved over time. I see a lot of work in the Warcradle´s new models. I value that, but it is so much baroque for me. A more sober work can be good. Look at these models at the end of Saprtan (I think they are simply perfect):
  40. 2 points
I rather disagree. One of the reasons to board a ship is to capture it. How much setup is required and how much it is worth in the end are the real questions. Obviously a Battleship should be able to handle capturing individual Tier 2 & 3 ships quite handily, but having dedicated boarding ships, like some of the Assault Cruisers or Directorate Drones, on hand to handle things with more crew capacity, like a Space Station or aforementioned Battleship, should be a necessity. In other words, your fleet should be built with boarding in mind in order to making capture an effective strategy.
  41. 2 points
I think casting technology/skills have shifted. Early Spartan stuff was VERY spartan in design. Look at some early stuff like the old Dragonlords ships from Uncharted Seas and they were, honestly very boring ships for the most part. The hulls were very plain with, whilst good plank details, not much really going on. Now as they developed and grew we saw big strides on how they could achieve new things with new methods. Their designs got more gaudy and more ostentatious steadily. I think we saw it starting to happen with the newer fleets, whilst older ones retained their original design ethos. Warcradle is clearly starting from a higher initial point of casting skill and technology so I think they get to put that more showy design into more of the core forces right from the launch. For me I'll be interested to see how WC handles army variety, army size and also supermachines. I loved many of the bigger machine designs from Spartan so seeing them from WC will be very interesting. So far the only WC choice I dislike is the change in scale of the ground game and the resulting removal of land assets from the sea game. Though I can see some logic in that - Spartan did have some issues balancing ships (which traditionally are very heavily armed) with regular tanks on the ground at times. And you could also see that some of the land and sea ships were mirrors of each other. Though I think the greatest loss is that the scale change means we won't see supersized land units appear in the game. We won't get thundering rolling mobile airfields, though we will at least get flying ones. Still we've not seen anything on that beyond the proposed ideas made a year or more back so things could always change and betewen the sea game; the legions (28mm) and then bringing back others like Firestorm - there's a LOT to keep WC busy before they have to commit to design choices on support/side games.

    More info on 3.0 imminent?

Lord Nat that sounds a cool idea! Imagine just getting an article where the designer gushes about the new design and shows how she or he painted it. It would really start building some excitement. Delboy's threads as a designer were fantastic for that, talking about the model and rules development in tandem. I get its a big job, and I get that changing a system that people are passionate about builds a bit of negativity, but the best way to combat that fatigue and build positive energy is to get something to be positive about.

    Duetzefix' weird little ships

Thank you for your feedback! The colour scheme on the Aquans is basically what I came up with after I saw a picture of a whale shark. It's easy to do (just spray the bottom white then the top brown) and looks pretty, although it probably makes the whole fleet look really brown on the table. In my experience the problem with many space ship models is that you can't really see all the detail on the bottom of the ship and, in this case, the colour of the bottom, which is a bit of a waste because it's pretty to look at. The Directorate colour scheme is something I think I blatantly stole from Kurgan IIRC. I'm not 100% on my interpretation of the colour scheme on the frigates, I think it's a bit boring and could use a little more contrast. Maybe some brighter green stripes on the dark green parts for the larger ships? Here's a better picture of the Anathema drone, the one I took yesterday was too blurry to post: And here's two pictures of the Shiva gunships, the one on the left is the one I finished today, the right one has been finished for about three weeks, now: Not sure why exactly the left one is so much darker than the right one but I'm just going to accept it. Left one isn't completely varnished, either, my spray can of matte varnish crapped out on me yesterday, maybe that'll change something on how it looks. Next up: Sulis heavy cruisers, probably by the end of the week. First I need a new can of varnish.

Soooooooooo... DW Beta is coming to a close at end of June. Anyone care to speculate about the timeline? Anyone hoping for Q3? Or will the finalisation of the actual DW profiles take much more time and developer resources? Do you guys think that the FSA beta can be similar to the DW in that can be concluded without seeing actual profiles for the fleets, or the distinction between them will require stats closer to the intended final versions (Shunting, shields, cloaks, Cyberwarfare etc.)? Too early to speculate? Shall I wait a few more months? Ok ok. Patience. I know. I'll see myself out.

Is there a way to find out if additional models will become available in the future and if yes which ones specifically? Because there were quite a few models that I still wanted to get before they went OOP but didn't get around to it, and they're not available on Wayland, either (basically RSN Patrol Fleet and Dreadnought Box as well as a Dindrenzi gunship and one Aquan and Directorate escort carrier). I can go look on the secondary market but I'd rather buy them new. I also have an order of FSA models in limbo right now. It's been three to four weeks, now, so I'm starting to get worried that it somehow got lost at Warcradle. Does it always take that long (which would be alright with me, I've still got enough to paint) or should I open a ticket?

    Project Insanity

Greetings! I have been a silent member of the group for a while now, and have been a fan of all things Dystopian and Spartan games since the beginning. Now that 3.0 is upon us, I decided to make a big old table with some mass armies on them to show my dedication and also my love of the models of Dystopian wars. I call this "Project Insanity". The target is to finish a table and paint all the minis needed for it by the start of november 2019, so we can take the table to the Crisis show in Antwerp. In the pictures you will see only the land forces for the moment, but the table will have an equal amount of land/air/sea forces. All land forces have been cleaned, glued to bases and sanded, in preparation for undercoating. Size of the table has been set at 5m. on 1m80. I post this, because this makes the process easier for me and because I want to bore you with my "illness" ;) Also included is one picture of 2 test tanks to show to what quality I want to have them painted. I wish thee all a good week and lots of painting/gaming!
