I've mostly finished my Veydreth recon helix today, I'm still contemplating what other colours I can put on there. But I think the neon glow and purple shadows work well so far. I also painted up an objective token of a flare and finished another piece of terrain for my table at home. Cheers guys. -

Hi all, a little interim post to show the gunships at an uglier stage. The first round of blue has been shaded to give me a better idea of how much blue I want. The second round of blue is done in base colour only. The red of the engines has no shading yet either. Black areas incomplete, white not started. I find a lot of the in progress work to be quite odd and I like how the model changes in the later stages. Thanks @alamo, I'm trying hard to get a life balance at the moment. Hoping for a restful weekend. Thanks @tansalus. I am getting there. Thanks @clifford. There is a blue wash over the model. My Directorate has a black Primer spray, gun metal base coat spray, then a blue wash. I then clean up the metal with a brush gun metal. Thanks @Frostphoenyx Thanks everyone for all the kind words and support. WA -

Firestorm Galaxy Expansion Kickstarter is live
Xerkics and one other reacted to Magarch for a post in a topic
Indeed, there are cases of Kickstarters being restarted about the middle of it, simply because mistakes were made by the creator that he recognized and wanted to prepare it better the next time. It happened to me once as a backer and the second launch was indeed going more smoothly. As Overread said, it's just a matter of when and why you do it. That's not something you do at the last moment, because it just seeds unnecessary doubts in the mind of backers. Basically, it's all about communication. -

you see, this has been a directorate plot all along, allow me to spin the tale... we have sies in all your ranks, works raptor agents going by alias's of tarqui scientists and hawker engineers they have slowly but surely planted the seeds, allowing the directorate to "hack" any and all systems, until a joint effort powered by "tarqui" scientists innovation, and "hawker industries" ingenuity, and working knowledge of cyber warfare tech, have developed a new relay system, completely unhackable, it uses the tarqui short range teleporters (further developed from using overseer tech) to send the message via literal paper mail, teleported to the ship being ordered. the only catch is this device requires a powerful conductor, gold happens to be the best for these purposes ("hawker industries" swears by it) oddly enough, no gold remains after use...almost as if it too were teleported... and it uses rather large amount, however the method is "effective" and all the warships have been retrofitted, to avoid the anavoidable hacking of directorate ships (which hacks may or may not be administered from within, but i'm not telling) meanwhile, the directorate coffers fill with gold, as fleets must spend valuable resource to "power" the device -

1 pointThanks for the complements folks. Two more directorate ships done. Those are rather big guns. Our club's regular Terran player has agreed to give me a game. He's never played against directorate but he is very fond of his shields & shield cruisers. He might be in for a surprise. @WestAustralian pics of the two fleets together are coming - I just want to get a few directorate done first.

V3 changes to Terran ships?
Commodore Jones reacted to murphy'slawofcombat for a post in a topic
there was no reason to remove mines and I will not stop using them. I haven't gone to any trunies and most likely won't and if I do it will most likely be as a observer not as a player. there is no logical reason to abandon this rule. it works well and does not slow the game. if anything it add flair and as mention before tactical ability to the game. big big mistake. in fact when the V3 rules come out I will only take out and use what I feel is good and continue to use V2 making a V2.5 or house rules. Sorry spartan Neil I think you missed the boat with this one -
1 pointI've seen KS restart before and done well; but only if they can seriously organise their marketing and if the drop time is only a few days. And not right at the end of the KS. IT's a huge risk - the bonus is possibly getting near or fully funded on the first day as you should get most backers returning - the downside is that you oft have to givve away something new to most of those returning backers to get them to return and you can lose people. Plus if you don't market like CRAZY it tends to have a null effect - instead a big marketing push plus a lot of returning people can act a bit like jump-starting a car - once it gets going it keeps going.

Firestorm Galaxy Expansion Kickstarter is live
Wanjajoral reacted to Polaris for a post in a topic
I agree they should have waited, but to stop it now ...no I think that would be worse at this point, for us long time players who pledged, it would be deflating, for a new player, that would erase credibility, and they would not likely support it round 2, we've already seen some new blood in the forums, lets not loose them too quick -

Firestorm Galaxy Expansion Kickstarter is live
Wanjajoral reacted to Magarch for a post in a topic
Been a while I didn't comment; I was just watching quietly for a while, waiting for some news...including this Kickstarter. I know the rules for 3.0 are showed on this forum, but it bugs me it's not really covered on the Kickstarter. Having new models is nice, but remember, they're selling the 3.0 rules for Firestorm Armada with a universe, and background books. So far, we got a few pictures about the new ships and....not much on rules, and just a time table and a few pages about the Pathogen and the Saurians. It's not enough, we need more. Just having renders of cool models doesn't sell a good game with solid background. But in all honesty, I'm just not sure they can show much more than what is showed so far. I also think this kickstarter was launched too soon. They should have waited to finish the Dystopian War one, so that the comments about "starting a new Kickstarter while the other isn't finished - does that mean they need cash to finish the first?" wouldn't even exist. They should definitely have put pictures of the models and more stuff about the rules and the background on the home page of the Kickstarter. It is needed, that's the first thing people discovering the Kickstarter see - and the first feeling you get is important to read any further, let alone click on the "pledge" button. Maybe canceling the Kickstarter and restarting it anew later when everything in the first is settled and you have better preparations for this one isn't such a bad idea. -

IT also looks like it could have been in RSN as well . I think if we just started with renders or at least art for everything to begin with this kickstarter would have gone a lot faster as is unless we get the rest of the renders soon i dont think we ll get much if any stretch goals at this rate. ALso why cant there be a book + expansion pack pledge? Why is it focused around 2 new races. I d expect that there are more existing players that are likely to want to expand existing fleets than people who d want to start 2 new races. -

Pawprint reacted to Punisher357 for a post in a topic
Sorry....I know this is an old thread, but I've been away a while. I think the model is really cool looking (definitely test print due to way too much blank space and not enough detail). However, I don't feel like it really fits the relthoza fleet. It doesn't really "feel" like a relthoza ship. I think it needs to be more angled and sharp, more predatory. I agree that our mk2 dreadnought is the best looking ship in the fleet, and in my opinion, all of Firestorm Armada. -

New ships of line.
Skyhawk reacted to Fluffhunter for a post in a topic
And that's whats great about FA. So many different styles of ships, all of them well crafted. There is even a great variety in ship design styles among terran ships. Which i really like. It gives a great sense of the scale and history of the Terran Alliance. I've always imagined that it resulted not only from different generations of warships but also from different competing companies, each with its own style, betting for government contracts. A nice visual and thematic counter to the streamlined dindrenzi warmachine But we are forgetting the original purpose of the thread. Discussing the new ship renders just released. I find it cool that some factions keep almost the same visual style ie Dindrenzi and Sorylian just more detailed. Showing how they remain conservative in ships designs, but still upgrade their fleets whit new technology. While other factions have descended down a more radical design part like Terrans and Relthoza, alluding to implementation of new technologies and design philosophies. Which is also reflected in the rules,at least in the taskforce ships, where these ships have statlines and MARs that simulate more advanced warships. -

Dreds are way more vulnerable than you think. At 1k points you lose 70% if they are prized. We play 1500pts and I often take a dread but maximise cheaper units to make back the activations. I wouldn't use a dreadbot below 2k and only if I have discussed worthy opponent first. -
1 pointI got to say im underwhelmed so far. Even tho a lot of the kickstarter models so far have been awesome unfortunately the new rules largely feel like a kick in the teeth. I dont know how to reconcile those feelings. Im still waiting for those Blogs that @Spartan Neil has promised to post explaining the logic behind the new changes . Im very much waiting to hear them because stuff like % Fleet construction, nonsensical deployment, multi coloured dice and variety of things that are not stream lining but either over complicating or hurting the balance of the game with no sense or purpose behind them brought forward from planet fall and the like all look like they will have a negative impact the enjoyment of the game for me.

Thanks for the Likes and comments. Great minds think alike @alamo not much to report this week, other than the fact that I am tired and in pain. It's been a rough month for me. Lots of physical exertion, not enough rest. It's also hard to push myself on PF when there is so little positive energy on the forums Painting wise I have been so distracted by FSA. Particularly the Omnidyne. I have hardly touched Planetfall. I have started on these Base coated and washed. Picking out some of the panels. I have to go, Thanks for looking, likes and comments are appreciated. WA -

Firestorm Armada 3.0 Designer Feedback Thread
murphy'slawofcombat reacted to Doomkitten for a post in a topic
I occasionally pop back, look things over. I've got well over 300 Firestorm ships, several friends with multiple sizeable fleets too. To say we are invested in Firestorm Armada would be an understatement in the extreme. We want to be able to play the up to date version of Firestorm Armada, but between the lost focus when Taskforce and Halo came out (dampened enthusiasm because we felt "our" game was condemned to be back-burnered) and now the concerns over such sweeping rules changes as have been explained in such an isolated, difficult to translate, manner... Honestly? We're all beyond pessimistic. -

1 pointHere's my theme - I wanted to go with Republique red, white and blue but in a more understated way. So Ive gone mainly white ships/skimmers and red flyers with red/white trim + blue windows. Metallics are almost all "dirty" gold with a little silver trim close up of ships flier closeup

3001 points - Directorate v Relthoza ...
Punisher357 reacted to Vedar for a post in a topic
I'd hold off on the Relthoza are too powerful comments until they start beating you. The above looks like a really good game. The Relthoza got some range back in a few units but still suffer when it comes to small units. This game seems like the Relthoza player went for shooting over objectives and it cost him. Thanks for sharing the game.
