Hi guys/gals. I have been working away on the Pilbara and have not had access to my Planetfall. I got a bit of time to finish off my Dindrenzi Assault helix A pic to show how they fit in to the force. Thanks for looking WA

    Marden's musketeers docks

Hi fellow captains, I just found my old Iron Dwarves battle group and thought it was a good opportunity to do something while waiting for the kickstarter to ship. Folks here use them as pre-sturginium / pre-dreadnought ships, I'll basically do the same, converting old declassified hull into an (almost) full mercenary support group. The frigates were cut to only keep the turret part which look perfect for building bunkers, coastal defenses or any kind of fortifications. The battleship will be converted as a repair/tender platform wich is really useful for mercenary forces as they tend to move from one contract to another often whitout the luxury to stop at friendly ports. It's funny to see that with their design, the submarines could serve as Invader units. On my case they will be the eyes and ears of my fleet, acting as scouting units giving a strategic advantage and time for it's allies to prepare for battle. First of all I'm starting with the dwarves cruisers, they will be changed to slow but sturdy monitors, giving fire support and why not, some anti-air fire. With their neutral design they could fit with any fleet with minimals modifications. As monitors they'll have a front heavy turret but since I only have two turrets of multiple factions (two EIMC turrets and two Australians laser turrets) I'll have to do a squad leader with a generator (maybe a shield, maybe a target painter generator to coordinate fire). The multi purpose french broadside (the four small attached turrets) will be separated and mounted just behind the funnel to look kind of like the ww2 british monitors which were equipped with frontal weaponry and a rear ack-ack platform. Hope you like the idea, more pictures to come.

What is it you want to see?

So, over the past couple of weeks things have been...less than ideal in the forums. Some posters have felt somewhat aggrieved at the current situation, and have also felt the need to let everyone know about it. But lets be honest here, that's not the best, as it brings down the tone of the entire forums when the top unread activity is a post about how things are *^&%. Personally, I prefer to try to attack problems from multiple angles where possible. And seeing how the current trend is providing less than ideal outcomes, I figured why not try an alternate methodology. There's a saying: "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem." It is hard to provide solutions and ideas (trust me, its my job to do find solution), whilst Its easy to criticise and complain. As a result, a lot of people (not just in these forums, but also in the world in general) do the latter. So, lets try being part of the solution for once. Rather than posting complaints and generally vague "this needs to be improved" posts, I ask this: what is it you want to see? What sort of communication level do you want? How often a release schedule do you want? What sort of releases do you want to see? There's just one catch - your post needs to be positive. Words such as don't, can't, won't, anything that has a anti- or negative type of connotation - those need to be completely left behind in this thread. Why? Well, call it experience from a dozen years as a scout leader. I've found my charges tend to react better to positive rules than negative ones (eg. "When swimming, stay in sight of a Leader at all times" as opposed to "don't go out of sight of the Leaders when swimming"), and people tend to react better when it appears that you are trying to help rather than hinder. (I know, this post is less than ideal in following these rules, but, hopefully, you get the idea). So please, let your positivity flow! What do you want to see? What would make your Spartan experience better?

What is it you want to see?

A monthly update message/blog for each game system giving an idea of how things are going on announced projects, upcoming projects, and upcoming model releases. Can be as short or as long as necessary to transmit the information being given and let everyone know if timelines are slipping behind schedule.

What is it you want to see?

Honestly if they did an in-house batrep for each game system each month, if we got to see the people behind the games having fun with them, that would do wonders for enthusiasm for the game. Like, Spartan did that one video about how the Taskforce ships were designed with cool modularity, and that was awesome. I was so hyped after that. I mean, just putting a finger on each game system to say "hey, I still care about this" would be huge, even if nothing changed about your release schedule or whatever. If you can help float the enthusiasm, you can carry your game's popularity a lot further than just what the product line supports.

Ah, After a week of traveling, followed by a 4 day Con (Where I played or hosted 4 different DW games-yah!) I finally get to start painting my Prussians from Ice Maiden: the 3 (6 with submerged versions) Brandtaucher Subs, 8 Lahn Destroyers, the Gustav Bombard Monitor and two Sea Forts. Hopefully by Friday I will have something. Of course I also have a Kaiser Karl, 3 Uhlans, 1 Konigsberg (my 3rd-that can wait), 9 Arminius (wait I have 6), 6 Wachters (wait I already have 6) and 6 mine cookies. Gaak! Then there is the other 48 models and a bunch of SAWs, uh, I may be overdoing this. Can't wait for the rest of the KS shipment, and then there is North Star. Help!

Thanks Mike, that is good to know. @Gen. Eric I did look at the store, and that wasn't a great reference. Spartan's Gallery really needs an update. They have some great models, but not great photo's of them. I would love to see a faction gallery that actually showed off the models and allowed you to find them in an intuitive way.

That might be the single most conceited thing I've ever read. Are you seriously saying, in a public forum frequented SOLELY by Spartan customers, that their concerns and opinions over the information we've so far had about the new edition of a game that a lot of us love a great deal, are NOT WORTH READING??? Because that's what it looks like you're saying, and it is a STAGGERINGLY stupid thing to say as a representative of a company whose public engagement was already not great. If you don't like our negativity, I'd suggest trying the following: - Seriously engage with people, regardless of how much you personally disagree with their opinion (it's called professionalism) - Give us a reason to be more positive, rather than providing vague promises like the last thousand vague, unfulfilled promises we've seen from Spartan, interspersed with insulting your customers and telling them to shop somewhere else.

At the very least i think we need to see 3.0 rules before kickstarter so we know what we are in for. A lot of people are not impressed with what seems porting over of inferior rulesets from other spartan systems. So players have the right to be concerned.

    Official Thread: Republic Of Egypt

Well the blog post is up for the RoE's ORBAT Still reading over the ORBAT so not much to add yet. From page 1 though: • All Republic of Egypt Broadsides have the Devastating Munitions Type. • All Republic of Egypt Energy Weapons have the Incendiary Munitions Type. • Unless otherwise noted ALL Republic of Egypt Capital Models have the Rugged Construction (1) MAR. Wrath of the Gods Eye! Once per Game – This ability may be activated during the Command Segment of a non-Disordered Squadron’s Activation provided a member of the Squadron is within the Command Radius of the Commodore’s Model. All Energy Weapons within this Squadron double the number of Raging Fire Tokens they inflict on their targets as a result of their attack. (This Includes any Critical Table or Fuel Reserves Result! Such is the Wrath of the Sun God!).

What about a Small Carrier that got 1 Carrier Point each, and had Squadron Support X (X being the number of models originally in the squadron) in a 3-5 unit size. It could have Broadsides (S) 3/2/-/- and being EotBS it could have DR 4 CR 6. Give it 3 Defensive AP, job done. Makes up for the absence of a medium carrier neatly.

The decks are just a light tan (Coat d-arms Horse Tone Roan) thats washed with Army Painter Strong Tone Ink (aka GW devlan mud). The flight decks are the same with the added steps (a) when dry brushing the gold trim around the sides, mess up and splotch gold onto the decks (b) panic and dry brush white in the middle of the deck + stipple black/brown wash around the edges to cover up the mess you made (c) hope that nobody notices

What is it you want to see?

To be a bit of a positive contrarian: My main wishes are addressed at the community more than at Spartan. I enjoy creativity and a do-it-yourself attitude in a community. More houserules, homegrown scenarios, modeling, fluff, fiction and discussions about all of them. In the same vein, seeing more support for that side of things from Spartan would be a plus. Rules which are friendly to tweaking, maybe a throwaway houserule from a Spartan's table now or then, a few glimpses of wild ideas which are not necessarily deemed fit for "official" publication (at least in the near future). Other than that, I am happy for Spartan to continue the way they are doing now. The way I game, continuous support and regular new releases are of relatively little concern to me, and I'd rather see a "splash release" for an entirely new game with some exciting ideas and models.

@Spartan Linde! For some context, let me invite you in my head for a bit. I'll try to be as constructive as I can, so I'll present the problem, and offer a solution. The problem: I know (think?), things are much better over on the beta forums, and there are multiple reasons for that: -For a beta forum to function there has to be information, feedback, and a general perspective, a direction to progress. Exactly the things this non-beta community is asking for (louder and louder as time passes). -Our (firestorm) community changes. It shrinks at places, and it grows elsewhere. If you would like to beta test the new edition, you have to take the most healthy (possibly still growing) portion of the community, and get their most engaging and social members to lead the subcommunities (?) beta efforts, and as you have told us at the Exploding Dice Radio, this exactly what you have done. The result is, that you have created an elite cub like forum for the healthy portion, and left the rest for their own devices, creating two separate echo chambers. One positive, one negative. -Here on the dark side, *all* of us still are trying to think positive, believe me, but we are turning into badly raised attention hungry children, who are desperate for *any* feedback, and if being rude gets us some (even if it's negative), we'll go for it (and if positive feedback gives us no such thing, you can guess the general direction of things). The solution: Well one possible solution... Go back to the Beta Forums (the better place), and bring us something back from there! And I don't ask you for actual crunchy bits, as you are bound by your NDAs and such. But! If you come to us with things like: -Oooooh! Aquans better hold onto your swimming trunks! This implies that faction rebalances will take place - a thing you have disclosed in the above said interview, so we already know this, but things like this won't violate anything (if they are cryptic enough), and gives us lowly plebs something to gnaw on. So bring the "You better stockpile your torpedoes!" and "If I were you I'd engage diplomatic negotiations with the Dindrenzi before it's too late!", and please don't engage us this way, it's one of the better examples of a post being both rather pointless and extremely toxic. The two things us in the dark side don't need from a designer in the designer feedback thread

What is it you want to see?

I want to see a streamlined version of v2.0. By this I mean: - Simplified movement system - Tweaks to the way SRS work so that PD mountain isn't so utterly absurd - No changes that compromise the tactical depth of the game. Unfortunately posts from Spartans Derek and Linde suggest that I'm pissing into the wind with the last point, but I'm trying to keep an open mind until we see something concrete (though I'm slating anything I disapprove of in the meantime in the desperate hope that the game we all love can be preserved).

@Skyhawk - good post. May I suggest you alter the start of the second sentence to something along the lines of "Even small items or simple progress updates..." @Bessemer - perhaps alter the start of the second paragraph to something along the lines of "Spartan, if you are having issues with resourcing, maybe cut one of the systems? At least that way you can reconcentrate your resources on the core systems, rather than having to spread yourself too thinly across multiple ones." "Don't want to ruffle feathers" is, in some respects, too much like the phrases "With all due respect..." and "I'm not X, but..." @child9 - positivity, my friend, wash those noes away with it! Also, communication is nice, but, what sort of communication? Telepathy is technically communication, yes?

    Pointless Particle Ponderings...

All area bombardments are, by nature, indiscriminate attacks. This is stated in page 100 (where it states that ordnance attacks using templates should be indiscriminate) and in page 130 (where it states that area bombardments are indiscriminate). As all indiscriminate attacks ignore generators, and the Energy Blast can only fire indiscriminately, barrage is a redundant MAR. A weapon does not need the Barrage munitions to area bombard, it just needs to have the area bombardment (that weapon) MAR on the model. Overall, I think the Blast is much more flexible as a weapon system than the accelerator (and I really want the old accelerator back), but it does kill your own generators, so... yeah.

The above two posts put it all in a nutshell, really. Regular comms, alternating/semi-regular release schedule, dedicated point of contact per universe (I believe Spartan Derek was already given this title?). Even if a timescale had passed, tell us in advance it's slipping and throw some tidbits on what has been done. A page here, a render there...Something. Don't mean to ruffle some feathers, but trim the fat?...If Taskforce/Dystopian legions are falling by the wayside...time to cut? Hypothetical, not an advisory. Merely a suggestion to lower the number of plates in the air to concentrate and consolidate.

Thats why my suggestion is to call the short range large blast we have currently a plasma cannon. Yeah the new weapon has been less the problem than it still being called a PA. Truthfully i think we could easily accept a name change, as when you say Particle Accelerator for most it conjures the image of a beam weapon.

@Grand-Stone I have been summoned by the spheres of debate! Lol anyways! You folks essentially covered a lot of what was discussed here about the Obu. Biggest impact for points is the CR being bumped and the crew consideration (as few as they may be!). Consider being obscured and being fired on by fighters? Edge Japan! And who ever said that incindiary was weaker hasn't seen some of the synergizing bonuses I have been cooking for EotBS for those upcoming public tests we are working towards... well I suppose none of you have seen them! Atleast I hope! ALSO... consider the fact that there might increases to certain elements to go along with our rebalancing work. The above mentioned Zerstorer may end up swinging into 25 points after we give it a re-tooling! Lots of factors went into the Obu, some obvious and some publicly mysterious. But considered always was the great idea of balance, theme and effectiveness! Did that help? Am I still too dizzy to be posting?! -Mike

@Gen. Eric - finding gaming partners around here (smaller town east of toronto) is difficult so I figured why not just collect a bunch of fleets since its much easier to get people hooked if they can play a few games before they have to put money down. Plus I HAD to play Canadians even if they were just a different KoB paint scheme....until now that is @Spartan Mike - Everything looks pretty awesome right now since last time I played you guys were still ironing out your casting process (one of my rievers looks like it has some kind of infection lol). Luckily the Reichstag (AKA my wonderful wife) has approved a plan for modernization and expansion of the fleet so I may or may not have dropped 200 GBP already.............. Also I'm really hoping that the operation icemaiden 2 player set is available at some point since my new opponent is running RC but we just started in June so missed the kickstarter . The one thing I really love about your guys is how awesome the 2 player sets are for value for dollar the contents always seem to be worth about double what the box costs. Or even more if you get bonus like my STO fortress and two free BB's did I mention I was super excited for August?!?!

G'day everyone! First of all, welcome back Jupy and probably other people as well, including myself. After actively participating in several tournaments dating back from 1 to 3 years ago in the Netherlands I didn't make time to play, but now with the kickstarter and 2.5 rules, @Farcages and @NaH2PO4aq got me back to some battle royales with the new rule sets. I've played CoA against both previously mentioned users (using KoB and RC) and after 2 x 1000pts playtests with the new rules, I'm getting a grasp of the changes. So here's my biased opinion on some changes Particle accelerator change: I agree it's lost some style/fluff factor, but it's not neccesary a nerf, In fact it might be a buff. Where previously mostly our drones where reliably capable of hitting large/massives, now our large PA's are finally useful against larges, hitting a 11AD indiscriminate PA on 3+'s will hit, and maybe crit one. Downside of course is with large slow turning vessels, trying to hit those smalls will be harder. Ideally, with covenant being a fleet of specialists, I would love to see an option to choose between both types of Particle Accelerator (just list primary/energy turrets). Shields 3 on some units, nice buff Boarding weakness is slightly smaller due to new boarding rules, yay there Torpedoes ignoring shields and our extremely laughable CC values introduces a new weakness, but considering the shield and boarding buff that's still balanced Finally my only true objection - Drone changes: To be honest, these changes/nerfs are probably overdone: Swarm tactics are now gone Redoubtable carrier points are now gone Hunter default mars are now gone All factions, not only COA, can now return scrapped SAS so that's an indirect nerf to drones as well. Now, drones feel weaker than other nation's SAS. In order to get even (get Hunter Aerial, Hunter Surface, Hunter Submerged) I need to not only bring specific (rather high-cost) units in my 1000p fleet list. I also have to make sure I'm within a 8" range of all those vessels. Having an increased launch range counteracts the fact you'll need to stay close for Hunter MARS. In conclusion, looking forward to get some more experience in with the new rules and to just play some more games. Time for revenge next week @Farcages =] PS. @Spartan Mike, I've heard some really good things about you, thanks a lot for all your input and most of all, the impressive amount of strong, open communication with us as a community!
