Some unboxing pictures: http://quiethobby.blogspot.se/2016/02/unboxing-firestorm-taskforce.html#more Most of the terms are familiar, but several seem to differ in their usage (PD is +x, for instance). At this point, I'd say that trying to translate 1:1 would be difficult.

I'm no PLC player, but I respected With Fire and Sword because it was simply one of THE coolest doctrines in the game. In fact, I would advocate making more doctrines that cool and flavorful. As for bringing it back and making it work, why not something like this: Nominate squadron, that squadron can use flamethrowers and board the same target. Then, if the squadron lands at least 1 AP on the target, gain additional boarding AD equal to the number of Raging Fire tokens on the model. This would make them ace at sending models into the 'derelict' category or simply wiping AD, causing a crit, and letting the model burn to death. Also, the image of assault troopers leaping through flames and cutting down any opposing enemy with a sword is freaking badass.

    First thoughts

Hi Pads1982, At some point in the next couple of days there will be a couple of downloads for the rules going online, one of which is what we call the Carnage Damage Table. See how you fair with that Damage Table, and when we roll out the first FA conversions (aka Patrol Fleet Stats) as you say you'll be able to tear into things with the big boys. All the best, Spartan Neil

I would say it's the most op ship in the game at that points cost My wallet would actually cry if that were the case. Dreadbots beware of the disgustingly cheap battle carrier of the danes. It even beats the covenant drone spam lists. Jokes aside.... If this could be updated when possible that would be great

Hi everyone, This is a quick note to say a packing error has resulted in a small amount of Taskforce Two Player Boxes shipping out with 2 missing Frigate models. We're very sorry to anybody impacted by this. If your box arrives and it's missing two Frigates, please email despatch@spartangames.co.uk with your physical address and we’ll get your missing ships out ASAP. Again, we are sincerely sorry for this inconvenience.

The rationale behind any new addition to a fleet involves a couple of things. Firstly, we try to make sure that any addition isn't going to replace something else in the ORBAT. Secondly, we try and make sure that any addition extends the tactical choices of the ORBAT. Thirdly, we work to ensure that the addition matches the vision we have for each fleet, including its theme, its strengths and weaknesses and so on (that isn't in some priority order, just general guidelines). So - in relation to one of your examples: The Kepler. The Kepler adds a medium carrier option to the Covenant, it may be taken as an attachment to the Aristotle, and may also be taken in a squadron of 1-2. The Kepler is a unique option being a medium drone launcher, on paper it may not seem much more significant than something like a Pericles (carrier 9 vs carrier 5 + carrier 5), but there is a huge difference in game play terms - a drone launcher can launch 1 SAW per model - so a perciles might have a capacity for 9, but still be able to launch only one SAW a turn, while a Kepler squad can launch two. Add in a few other things - solid dice out to RB 4 for a medium squadron (avg. 7 hits at that range which will typically crit a medium). Wave lurk, etc. We think the Kepler adds a really neat ship to the Covenant, extends their ORBAT in an interesting way and adds a cool model to the table. But in terms of Squadron size, 2 just worked better than 3. For many squadrons there are general standards we could look at (squad sizes etc), but that's not going to work out all the time, and we don't want it to work that way all the time. There are 7 Core nations and a large quantity of Alliance nations, and we work hard to try and make each of them characterful, idiosyncratic and interesting in their options, the ways they can be used, their strengths and their weaknesses. With attachments it is not just important to work out how the fare on the table when attached to a parent model, but also how they fare when working as a squadron rather than as an attachment. It's nice to have standards that are generally applicable, but sometimes they don't work out with our vision for how we want a squadron to operate or what we want it to bring to the table, and sometimes it doesn't work out for design reasons (creates too powerful a synergy or whatever). So those are some of my thoughts on the matter - certainly not exhaustive, but just a quick stream of consciousness! Cheers, Spartan Giles.

    Flight stand questions

These is no requisite for Taskforce or Armada gamers to buy the 20x20mm Flight Stands, we simply chose to put our Tier 3s on them because we felt they looked better. Players shouldn't feel like we are telling/pressuring them to make any changes to their existing fleets, simply play with what you have now if you wish to. That said, there is a case for putting a bundle pack into the Parts Service so players who choose to take their Tier 3s on 20x20mm flight stands. I don't know about the likely cost to the gamer of this however, but I can ask. Cheers Derek

    Official Thread: Ottoman Empire

As any danish play can testify, boarding is a very effective way to ruin an opponent because your ship can still do it at full effectiveness regardless of its HP, and if you're boarding things that your opponent is unlikely to recapture you're looking at double points for prizes. This makes the aggressive crew 25% more helpful, especially combined with effective RB1 firepower and sharpshooters, who can fire on the ship you're boarding on 5s and (red) 6s. So a unit of fettah can theoretically throw themselves 10+2d3" towards an enemy, let's say cruiser squad, heavily cripple two of them, sharpshoot 1-2 AD off the third then land 12 angry janissaries on it. It's a hard hitting unit if timed well.

    WAR LOG 3726

Admirals, another year of war begins. The Alliance of Kurak defends itself against the onslaught of the Zenian League and losses are huge in each factions. All your forces are needed to stop this conflict. Send your fleet in space, fight for the honor of your world and claim all the glory of victory! Here is the War Log for the year 3726 : How to read it? The big numbers are the sum of battle log points of each faction games. Average is this total divided by the number of games so it give the average battle log of the faction in a game. How to contribute? - Like that : Players: Jon / Joe Points Value: 2500 Scenario: 4 - Hold the Waypoint Factions & Allies: Aquan / Dindrenzi Battle Log Scores: 20 / -20 - Play the game with the 2.0 rules. You can post games with your own scenarios as long as they are ballanced (like tournament scenarios are) - they will be logged as house scenarios. - All games count! Kurak vs Zenian games will count for the WAR LOG you see here, but all games count for the ALL LOG (statistical document with all games recorded to see how each faction fares overall). Now play and change the fate of the galaxy! Please, keep this thread clean and use the CHAT LOG 3726 to flood. Support your faction! Thanks for the illustration Sbenko. I will be sure to pass this along to my club. I must admit that I feel the MAR could be a little more clear in outlining this ability for the cases I presented above. But then again it wouldn't be the first time my group and I have felt the rules to be a bit convoluted.

Please, forum crashes are not the Directorate's fault, that is bad for business. If a forum is intended to be brought down, it is simply brought down. Now, those who seek the Directorate's downfall may seek to disrupt proper business practices by crashing forums. Until then, the beatings will continue until morale and pace improves.

    Transporting Terrans

Tried magnets, found them too fiddly and expensive. Also like glued in stands, the magnet will break off and then you'll NEVER get those magnets back out of the stand hole without drilling out big holes in your models. Like Quiet01 I now use Hawk Widgets exclusively. 40 widgets for around $8! Thats more than enough to base an entire grand fleet, or two moderate model count fleets. Cheap, plentiful and so easy to replace!

I do not glue my pegs in. I use Hawk Widgets to attach the flight stands to the minis. I use towels and a box for my Aquans and Directorate. For my Terrans and Dindrenzi I use locking cases lined with foam. The cases lock tight and the minis don't move around.

Yes, it would be great to hear the full story of Spartan Neil. I have heard some of it. I believe it all started at a young age after he invented the Foroon (The lesser known other side of the Spork) Taking those earning to venture in Africa he discovered Immortality only to lose it while fleeing from pygmy elephants (which can be quite dangerous). Venturing though the mountains of Asia he spent many years with a group of monks meditating on Viking ships, Space Lizards and walking tanks. After a decade of touring as a lounge singer on many cruise lines he returned home with a purpose. He had a great vision of world peace though miniature war gaming. Creating his first miniatures by crushing rocks with his bare hands his company slowly grew. To this day he works on bringing together world leaders to solve there differences not through war, but instead to battle it out by rolling dice. This is a small part of his story.

    1. Strip the paint. 2. Properly wash the mold release agent and start over. 3. Allow to dry completely. 4. Repeat for all minis. This falls under the idea that: If you must ask others the question, you already know the answer. The question is the answer.

    Faction playstyles?

The Taskforce Game takes its statistics and gameplay from the Firestorm: Armada Core Engine. This means that playstyles that manifest in Armada are consistent when playing in Taskforce - this makes it easier should folks to buy the force they want to play in Taskforce, to then move forwards into Armada. So, were I to summarise the Fleets for the Core 6: Dindrenzi - 'Blunt Force Trauma' This fleet is all about bashing their opponent apart with Fore-firing Rail Guns. Rail Guns are particular useful against Shielded targets as they buckle these defences under the weight of mass-accelerated projectiles. The Fleet, whilst not especially suited to close quarters, is highly effective in long range engagements - If you like the idea of shooting 'ducks in a barrel'... this is the Fleet for you. Terran Alliance - 'The Stalwarts' This fleet uses torpedoes as a core engagement weapon, with many of its special rules tied to this weapon system. Durable and dependable, the Terrans rely on shields to defend against ranged attack, loitering at mid-long range to get the best out of their Torps. The extensive use of Nuclear Munitions makes the Terrans quite challenging to play against as you simple cant bunch up against them. This can often force opponents to spread out their forces, leaving them open to aggressive boarding and wing sorties by Terran strike elements. If you like the idea of 'lasting to the final shot is fired'... this is the Fleet for you. Relthoza - 'Poison from the Dark' This fleet exercises Corrosion as a key weapon type, causing their opponents to weaken as they grow stronger. Equipped with powerful Cloaking Fields, the Rethozans cause the opponent many problems when trying to engage them.....as they simply cant get a good target lock. As part of the trade off for this excellent defence, the Rethozans are also hampered by their Cloaking and so must choose the best time to de-Cloak and strike with full effect. Once de-cloaked they are vulnerable however....so knowing when to spring the trap is the trick! If you like the idea of 'playing the sneak'... this is the Fleet for you. Sorylian Collective - 'The Journeymen' This fleet relies heavily on broadsides to deliver its ordnance, giving the Sorylians a real 'Space-Galleon' feel with their graceful movement curves opening up their gun ports to deliver punishment to those who stand against the Collective. In Armada, the Sorylians benefit from larger Squadron Sizes, making them feel more numerous on the battlefield and to a certain extent this is continued in Taskforce. In terms of weapons the Sorylian have an interesting mix of types...leading to a real 'jack of all trades' feel. They don't stand out in any area necessarily, but give a good account of themselves in all fields. If you like the idea of 'playing the Jack of all Trades'... this is the Fleet for you. Aquans - 'The Enveloping Shoal' This fleet benefits from the 360-degree thinking of the Aquans themselves. All its weapons are designed to be focused without the need for lining up, with the Aquans viewing space battles as an extension of their own environments. To further this end, the Aquans also gain a benefit when it comes to deploying minefields - utilising the same thinking to prepare battlefields that suit their engagement style. Armed almost exclusively with powerful Beam weapons and Precision Torpedoes, the Aquans use their increased flexibility to move in and engage the enemy when they are exposed. If you like the idea of 'flexibility and battlefield control... this is the Fleet for you. Directorate - 'The Asymmetric Assassins' This fleet executes targets using methods that are often considered illegal/impossible. Through the use of Cyber-Hacks, Drone Attacks and Bio-Hazard weaponry, the Directorate have engineered a reputation for pitiless combat methodology. Using an amalgam of engagement styles taken form the other Races within Firestorm, they can alter their playstyle to suit the conditions, making them a real wild card and very difficult for the enemy to predict. If you like the idea of 'playing the evil-genius-bad-guy'... this is the Fleet for you. Well, that's my take on the Fleets. I'm sure other folks will have their own thoughts, Hope that helps? Cheers Derek

Hey guys, thanks for these comments. One of our problems currently is that we're in the middle of moving everything over to a new website, which is much more streamlined and a lot easier and quicker for us to use/build/edit, etc (unlike building our current website which is like trying to convince a grumpy dinosaur to go to the gym). So at the moment we're a bit reluctant to invest lots of time in shiny graphics, banners, etc, for the current website, when in the long run it would probably be better to focus as much energy as possible on moving over to the new one. But point definitely taken, and we'll look at improving on this in the future And as I'm sure you've all seen, YouTube is something we're working on. New ideas for videos are always welcome

    New Downloads - 23-02-16

This is just a quick note in regards to the new downloads, we'll be posting a longer blog post about it later. We have uploaded updated ORBATs for: The Black Wolf Company The Ottoman Empire The Chinese Federation. You can also find our FAQ online now. In addition, we have started to add the nation backgrounds as downloadable files - you will see more of these coming, but so far we have: The Honourable Eclipse Company, The East India Merchant Company, The Australians, The Ottomans, The Chinese, and the Black Wolf. Happy gaming! (I played a great game last night between the Royal Australians and Separatist Ottomans - sooo close, but I was unable to finish the job! Highlights were rolling ridiculously well for the Victoria Monitors and boarding and 'derelicting' the Hisar with my Crocs... ahh, so close)

    Official Thread: Ottoman Empire

Lets see how they play now before decrying the update. There are a lot of good changes, some simply excellent choices now exist in the Ottoman orbat. For people looking at the Sadrazam battleship and moaning about its AD output, let us take a quick look at the Independence battleship (not particularly highly rated, but similar in price.) Independence has 2 turrets (12/10/8/6) and options for a rocket battery of 7/8/9, some fore/aft volley guns of 6/4/-/- and broadsides of 8/6/3. The turrets have sustained fire 1. The only weapon systems that doesn't care about damage are the volley guns and the rockets. Sadrazam has 2 turrets of 9/7/5/3, four ofset volley guns of 5/4 and broadsides of 12/10/8/6. The turrets are corrosive and the broadsides are redoubtable. Damage only really hurts the turrets. Broadsides are sustained fire 2. So, since the Independence turrets at the same spread as the sadrazam broadsides, I would say those two are fairly equal HOWEVER the turrets can link together and are much easier to use. The volley guns of the sadrazam link for 8/6, which is better than the independence volley guns but not really a fearsome weapon. useful though. The Sadrazam turrets link for 14/11/8/5 (which is quite good with corrosive) but suffer from damage greatly. Better than the Independence rockets though in my opinion. Certainly better than the independence broadsides. So, purely in terms of firepower, the two are not terribly different in how many AD they can spit out... except that the Independence can link its turrets to take on a large/massive enemy. The Sadrazam struggles to do so. Additionally, the Independence has more flexibility in its weapon arcs. The Sadrazam has other strengths though, including being cheaper. Fettahs compare favourably with any other cruiser. Avci (sp?) are still spitting out high AD levels. Mizraks are going strong too. Not really considered the other ships yet, since now I have to go and shout at people in a musical manner. Looks like Ottomans might have a hole in their ORBAT regarding something that can go and bash large/massives... but that hasn't stopped the CoA!

Somewhat squishier yes, but that's mostly in reduced hullpoint count. I'll be comparing the Thunderer to light cruisers as their price ranges match up best. A Thunderer has DR 5 CR 6, so takes equal dice pools to damage compared to a Lexington or Riever light cruiser in a similar price range. The difference between 3 hullpoints or 4 hullpoints is hurting the Thunderer, but with only one point of difference between DR and CR I'd personally try to crit a Thunderer instead of plinking away at it, and two crits would take out most light cruisers as well. Granted, a light cruiser often has some additional goodies, like an additional weapon system and slightly better AA & CC values. It's far easier to notice the difference between large/massive models for the Armoured and Naval cores. An average landship has a DR of 5 and a CR of 8 with 7 HP, where an average battleship clocks in at DR 6 and CR 10 with 8 HP. Then again, landships are usually significantly cheaper as well. On the bright side, it's also a lot easier to out-activate naval opponents, only moving your forces in when you're confident you won't be facing as much return fire. Also, you don't need to move into range of naval barrage guns, you'll only need to move into range of the beach. Minor difference, but it could easily mean the difference between RB 2 and 3-4 on most vessels, especially if your opponent has an enemy fleet in the waters as well. Last scenario we played, we had two naval fleets and armoured armies facing off in an amphibious scenario as well. The only supporting fire from naval into the armoured theatre was a few long range pot shots from broadsides, which subsequently failed to do anything of note. On the other hand, the landing army provided some minor support fire at a naval opponent. The defending army didn't fire anything at the open sea due to lack of ranged weaponry.

We are like russian only few of us can read english rules understanding the game and that is not enough to reach the business mass. Dropzone Commander was more spread and difussion only for language stuff, their game is worst, their miniatures are worst too but people can read it and understand it easily and buy it. I dont know if Spain is interesting for this company in business terms but my tip is please work in a translation. Scoring Points Confusion

MaxToreador - I don't know if you work for Spartan Games or not, but here's my perspective (if it's interesting, otherwise ignore!) - I'm a brand new customer who has never bought a Spartan game before. I buy the Planetfall starter set for NZ$140, and I get a rulebook riddled with inconsistencies and errors. And not just spelling errors, but serious confusion - inconsistent terminology and leftover acronyms, for example. Luckily I'm an experienced gamer, so I go get the latest PDF of the rules online, and the FAQ. The errors are all still in the PDF version, and the FAQ obviously just updates the earlier version of the rules (because slabs of text from the FAQ are in the rules version I have). Other errors are ignored, and the FAQ is years old. Here my opinion - don't rely on your existing old player base, and put effort into getting the rules properly written and free of errors. I've just made a rules summary that gets all the rules into 3 pages and removes the inconsistencies, and it took me a couple of weeks of putting in an hour or two here and there. It's not that hard. There's no excuse for a company to not put the effort in to write good rules, no matter how busy they are with new releases, because a bad experience with rules will put new users off the game, and worse, discourage them from buying other Spartan games. I don't mean to be a pain or a nitpicker, I love the figures and am looking forward to playing the game and getting into it. But this stuff is basic stuff - get the rules right, and don't sell people games with rules full of inconsistencies and poor, unproofed writing, and don't expect them to hunt down answers in forums. Make the game easy for people to play and enjoy, and they will buy more stuff. Everybody's happy!

What went wrong is that the rules changed and no one edited or proofed them properly, thus leaving a meaningless acronym floating in an important part of the rules, not to mention a whole lot of inconsistent terminology which even the (now 2 year old) errata didn't pick up on! This is my first Spartan game and while I love the figures, I'm have to say I'm very unimpressed by the rules writing. Having poorly written rules results means less customers - Spartan should really invest some money on a copywriter and editor next time.
