BLOG DISCUSSION: Madame Liberté
Sanguinary Dan and 2 others reacted to Protognome for a topic
Personally, I hate it. It's a joke. I don't care how much magical bull----ium you pour into the making of this model, while there's nothing wrong with the quality of the design, it is a terrible weapon. There's no reason for a big statue with poor articulation to be thrust into the battlefield like this. I'd have been happier seeing an Arc du Triomphe bristling with guns on all sides, or an Eiffel Tower that had been modified to have the biggest tesla generator mounted on it than this. For those of you who like it, great. I hope it serves you well on the table, and makes for a great decorative piece in your army. As for me, the only use I see in this is to take the statue off of the GNE platform, clip off the heat lance, add a torch, green stuff the book, and then use it as a decoration for a scale model of the Statue of Liberty for an invasion of New York Harbor. Alternate alternate reality, of course. I've liked most of the other robots from this release, but this just offends my sensibilities.3 points -

I'm dissapointed that they went in this direction honestly. Not from the looks of the model but mostly from a historian standpoint. I realize this is very much an alternate history but IRL the statue of liberty was not even commisioned or designed until 1876... Three years after the current timelime. They were going to go the giant staute route surely one of Napoleon would have been better.2 points -

Hello, Some time ago we’ve painted an Aquan Fleet for Firestorm Armada. Recently, we had the opportunity to do a second fleet in our history – a Directoriate one! The ships are of simple, yet effective and detailed design. They were a real pleasure to work upon;) More photos, as always, you can see in our gallery How do you like the scheme in which we’ve painted the fleet? Get your miniatures painted by us! Hmmm good point. On the other hand a full Bor'ka squad throws out the same ammount of dice in ER. So it wouldn't be outrageous1 point

It will be interesting to see how Traders are packaged. Even though a carrier squadron can have 2 vessels you need so many ships it might still makes sense to just have 1 carrier then a full squad of cruisers and a full squadron of frigates (still 12 models) since you'd still need at least 2 Patrol fleet boxes to field even close to 800 pts.1 point -

Played an 800 pt game versus Ryushi (Ambush Scenario: Traders Defending). Frankly I was surprised how well they did. I'm guessing my familiarity with Sorylian Tactics helped since I was already familiar with maneuvering up the board by optimizing terrain. I generally kept mulitple Squadrons in close proximity in anticipation of using regroup but never actually used it. In most cases I found myself splitting squadron firing options into 2 AD pools. The ships were just resilient enough that if he concentrated fire on one of them he would easily kill it but if he tried to take out multiple ships in a single activation it often had minimal effect. Also noticed that since PD and HP are so low PD never really suffers from damage degradation. You can't go below 1 PD. Really enjoyed playing them and can hardly imagine what a 2000 MFV Trader fleet would look like (so many ships and so many activations). Very eager to see their model release eventually. The game ended (to make room for feasting) 7 to 3 Traders leading. With the Ryushi squadrons being much closer to being eliminated than the Traders who still had multiple regrouping options. The Trader Carriers shunting into Zone A behind the Ryushi Carrier was a major contributor to the favorable Battle Log.1 point -

Finnegan Bojangles' Sorylians
Captain_Dan reacted to Finnegan Bojangles for a topic
Greetings, My Sorylian Patrol Fleet arrived in the mail yesterday. I also have a pack of the older Scythe frigates. I'm brand new to FSA, but no to tabletop gaming and painting miniatures, so hopefully my ships won't come out looking like turds. At any rate, I've decided to base my fleet's color scheme on that of the nefarious Taiidan Empire from the original Homeworld game. Behold: I'm not sure if I want to keep the red engine blocks, but I'll probably add a few more red stripes and splashes of red here and there in the final product. Also, I'm unsure if I want the gray areas to be actually be gray, or metallic. From what I've gathered, most people seem to paint the fiddly bits on the Sorylian ships metallic colors. And the inspiration: \ I'm going to start priming today, I'll hopefully have another update in the next couple days.1 point -

Infantry Stat Update - 26/11/15
Marine0351W reacted to gr1mdan for a topic
I do apologise Jairan. I've played in a lot of games vs Relthoza and watched games with them in and they simply have never lost. All games have ended Turn 2 pretty much with a massive Relthozian victory down too... 1) Access to mass sky drop for easy objective capture 2) Some of the longest and most powerful long range guns with access to Recon to get in EF quicker than anyone else. 3) Heavy Infantry that out performed everyone elses for cheaper cost?!?! 4) Probably the toughest force to hurt. Highest DR ratings in the game with cloak is statistically the best in the game. So you can see why not only myself but many other people felt that the Relthoza did need toning down slightly. It's not a huge nerf, those Heavy Infantry are still amazing and you just need to use them slightly different now.1 point -
Having seen what the heavy skiff and its cargo can do already, i am having some concerns about the safety of my troops.1 point

Marine0351W reacted to Johntomass for a topic
Unfortunately Dan I find people really struggle to see past 'aw they nerfed my really powerful toys * said toys go out the pram to the floor*' It's a shame as a person who is sad enough to own and play most of the forces I love it when things got nerfed if it was needed. I genuinely love Spartan because they balance stuff so well and keep things fun and flavoured. I switched from gw coustome to Spartan solely because of armada 's clearly fair rules. People really struggle to understand that unless you valance a game and create a varied but fair and balanced game they die. Come for the toys stay for the rules1 point -

On page 74 of the DigiAdmiral it states that mines can not be triggered by Tiny models. On page 112 of the DigiAdmiral it states that Support Aircraft Squadrons are considered to be models that are even smaller than Tiny models. So yeah, RAW it does not say that SAS can not trigger mines, however since they are smaller than Tiny models I would say that RAI they do not trigger mines.1 point

My plans are to paint each Helix with the sides of the bases in different colors, for making easy to know wich units belongs to each helix. And now the Valkyries totally finished. They have no name or joke. Too small and difficult work for me. I paintes numbers, little damages and the glass in the front, rear and sides windows.1 point -

Well, I wasn't totally satisfied with my work. Finally decided to complete some elements of my "finished" tanks. Numbers, damages... First the Vidars. I numered them and put some minor damages on the armour. Wrote the names on the back of the turrets and painted little inner lights inside the missils launchers. And a little "crew jokes" in different parts of the turrets. Now, here you have the Behemot and the Juggernaut That's all for now. Next upgrade, the Heimdalls!!1 point -
Official Thread: Socialist Union Of South America
spaceship_2012 reacted to Thamoz for a topic
I kinda like the idea of exploding ships exploding more often in great big explosions... I have not designed an Orbat before, but I have these thoughts: Drawing from the background here: http://www.spartangames.co.uk/products/dystopian-world/dystopian-wars/socialist-union-of-south-america-susa The main potential enemies of the SUSA are: FSA and EotBS The source of some of their equipment is: KoB (naval and aerial) FSA (old landships) The background indicates their armed forces are: growing in number but lightly equipped. Other influencing factors (aside from their area/geography/culture, which I know woefully little about): LoiS influence due to Garibaldi being a key player in their recent history CoA/LoiS influence from their being a member of the Free Nations. So, given those facts, I would put forward the following for their theme/flavour: Their vessels should be a mix of old and new. (KoB and FSA design philosophies mixed in the older units perhaps?) Their vessels should be inferior to other nations generally, but a lot cheaper and more numerous. (Growing but lightly equipped force) Their vessels should be fast, hit and run types (LoiS influence and as a reaction to having to fight the long range superiority of FSA) Their vessels should have above average AA (reaction to EoTBS and FSA rocket use) A small number of vessels should be support pieces, superior in quality to other SUSA stuff and using generators to help their forces (CoA influence) maybe via weather gens (quick, steal the Ottoman's only decent trick!) Other thoughts: The background seems to suggest they are fired up by their revolutionary leaders, the use of combat coordinator from certain more expensive vessels could be used to bring this feel. In fact, there is something appealing about the idea of swarms of fairly mediocre ships needing combat coordinators to really make the fleet work strongly. Such coordination vessels could offer a range of combat coordinators which you could choose from, to tailor the force a bit more and give a bit of variety. Their weapons I would envisage as based around KoB staples but adapted from older equipment. Rejig the KoB turret spread from 9/7/5/3 to 7/8/5/- , to favour RB2 and be generally weaker, since there will be more of them around. Adjust KoB torpedoes to more forgiving arcs and closer range power, as though they use quantity of torpedoes to overcome the relatively poor quality of older designs. As a third weapon type I would give them a CoA heavy energy turret, but only on very very few models (the support pieces perhaps) since the CoA like giving them to their allies. I would also consider giving them widespread Engineers: Inept... just because nothing has this yet. Fuel reserves as a fleet wide thing would speak to packing too much ammo/fuel/stuff in not brilliantly designed hulls. So, as a few examples: Rose class pocket battleship 130 Points Squadron Size: 1-2 Regular crew DR 5 CR 8 MV 8" HP 7 AP 7 AA 6 CC 4 IR 5 RB 1 2 3 4 Main Turret (p) 7 8 5 - Broadside torpedoes (s) 10 10 Minimum Move 1" Turning Template large Turn Limit 0" Model Assigned Rules: Die Hard Attitude, hit and run. Options: May purchase up to 2 of: Combat Coordinator SUSA (hunter aerial +1, 8") 10 points Combat Coordinator SUSA (Die hard attitude, 8") 10 points Combat Coordinator SUSA (Pinpoint attack +1, 8") 10 points Each Combat Coordinator purchased adds 25 strategic value to the model Weapon Arcs: Two main turrets have a fore 180 degree arc Two main turrets have an aft 180 degree arc The broadside torpedoes have a broadside arc Here we see a front line large vessel, it is weak individually but may be squadroned (I want to see squadroned larges again!). It has a few nice options for boosting the fleet too. As a while squadron it can inflict horrible horrible pain at RB2, but before that it is quite lacklustre and has no defenses. Marx class cruiser 60 Points Squadron Size: 2-4 Regular crew DR 3 CR 6 MV 9" HP 5 AP 3 AA 3 CC 2 IR 3 RB 1 2 3 4 Main Turret (p) 7 8 5 - Torpedo turret (t) 7 7 Minimum Move 1" Turning Template medium Turn Limit 0" Model Assigned Rules: Hit and run Options: Any model may choose to swap its main turret for a torpedo turret for no extra cost. Weapon Arcs: The one main turret has a fore 180 degree arc The one torpedo turret has a fore 180 degree arc Here we see a cheap cruiser which can squadron up to 4. It has low DR and no defences, meaning the swap the tertiary torp turret might be worth it. Slightly faster than average but most other stats are average or inferior. Revolution class Frigate 20 Points Squadron Size: 2-5 Reckless crew DR 2 CR 4 MV 10" HP 2 AP 1 AA 1 CC 1 IR 1 RB 1 2 3 4 Main Turret (p) 7 8 5 - Minimum Move 1" Turning Template large Turn Limit 0" Model Assigned Rules: Small target, hit and run Options: Weapon Arcs: The one main turret has a fore 180 degree arc Here is something a bit different. Its a cheap frigate with a honking great big gun and a squadron size up to 5. Ridiculously OP... except it has DR 2, CR 4. These boats will not float for very long, but they are a hell of a threat. Considering they have a giant gun slapped on their frame, they also steer like cows and use the large template. Martyr class corvette 20 Points Squadron Size: 2-5 reckless crew DR - CR 4 MV 15" HP 2 AP 2 AA 2 CC 2 IR 5 RB 1 2 3 4 Minimum Move 1" Turning Template small Turn Limit 0" Model Assigned Rules: Small target, Elusive target. Weapon Arcs: Here we have another startling different boat. The Martyr is not designed to live through the battle. It has no DR value, just the CR value. It is either alive or dead, no middle ground. It also has 2 AP for traditional corvette boarding but no gun. Instead it has IR5. This allows it to plow through enemy smalls like a moderately warm knife through butter. Decent AA and CC also allow for it to plink away at SAW or tiny submarines. And lastly, a support piece: Society class support carrier 150 Points Squadron Size: 1 Regular crew DR 6 CR 10 MV 7" HP 9 AP 5 AA 7 CC 5 IR 5 RB 1 2 3 4 Heavy energy turret (p) 7 7 7 7 Minimum Move 3" Turning Template large Turn Limit 0" Model Assigned Rules: Strategic value 50, specialist defences (3), Inventive scientists, experience engineers, combustible cargo, Carrier (6) Options: May purchase up to three, the first choice is free. Guardian shield generator 2 protective = 2 (12") 20 points Time flow generator 24" 20 points Target painter generator (primary) 24" 20 points Weather manipulation generator (4) 20 points Each generator purchased adds 25 strategic value to the model Weapon Arcs: Two heavy energy turrets have a 360 degree arc Here is the carrier, it is the toughest ship by a big margine and can add some tremendous boosts to the fleet, but loading up on the tech makes it a very very VERY strategically valuable ship, and at the end of the day it is only as tough as a battleship.1 point
