  1. Thamoz, there's also a follow-though psychological warfare benefit with the Avenger against the KoB's most common opponents... (Prussia) Leutnant: "Capitan, the Head Engineer and his Deputy are unable to perform their duties!" Capitan Zur See: "How is this possible? What disabled them?" Leutnant: "They came up on deck to look at the Brittanner fleet, caught sight of the carrier, and now are helpless with hysterical laughter!" (France) Capitaine de Vaisseau: "Mon Dieu... I must have had too much Cognac last night. I am seeing Double..." (League of Italian States) Ammiraglio: "No! We must build an even MORE impractical carrier than them!..." and Guardiamarina 1: (Torpedo boat commander) "Hey, Paulo! Watch me make my attack run BETWEEN the hulls!" Guardiamarina 2: "But Pietro, that trick never works..." (insert SFX of small craft being smashed.)

When is the gunship coming out?

The model you are thinking of is the Heavy Gunship. It will be out with the Aerial Helix (sometime in the second quarter of this year) Still to come is the flying Directorate Leviathan in its 2 variants - The Wraith and the Spectre ......one is a massive gun platform (that drops a barracks filled with a Patriot 'Grand Company' into the battlefield) and the other is a Cyber Warfare delivery system that boosts CW-attacks around it (as well as dropping a barracks filled with Cyber Weapon wielding Heavy Infantry into the battlefield!). No pics sadly, as I have to wait until Spartan show it first....but its bloomin' massive at about 7-8" across! It is my new 'favourite'...... I know we should have favourite from amongst our children....but we do. Cheers d

  3. Well Commander Drakere the possession and use of such a Leviathan can be easily arranged! If you would just sign the standard Directorate Security Forces command contract* management positions are available! *signing of contract will entitle HMR to full rights over your body, mind, products and ideas arising thereof and offspring in perpetuity. Management position terms include automatic agreement to Directorate performance related liquidation policies. Contracts non-negotiable. Dental care plan optional.

  7. I've said it before and I'll say it again: KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. The easiest way to do a campaign is simply to play a linked series of games with an ongoing narrative created partly by the Event Organizer (EO) and in part by the players, with some extremely simple rules for admirals to gain experience. The more complex you make it, the bigger the headache, the more likely it is for the game to fall apart, and the more likely it is that some unexpected rules interaction will completely gimp someone's fleet and make it impossible for him to participate for the rest of the campaign. Keep it simple. Minimum work for maximum fun.

  8. Well, two ships to start with, an aquan and terran cruiser, cause for some reason only Tier 1's get any info in the fleetbooks. So...well, not sure if I should say "enjoy", but feedback would be nice, even if it's "dont' ever do that again". Aquan Cruiser: Sebrutan cruisers can easily be classified as light cruisers by oother sides of the conflict- their morphology adjusted for speed and maneuverability rather than toughness. Their individual weapons are weaker than their competitors’ , but Aquan tactics for cruisers call for coordinated attacks by the entire shoal- and a whole group of cruisers firing unison at a same target is a sight as wondrous as it is deadly- a delicate lattice of laser beams meeting on the hull of the target, efficiently exploiting any visible weakpoints where other races’ ships would just pummel the target with heavy fire. Supplementing the laser irises is an omnidirectional torpedo launcher fed by a central magazine, and a minelaying bay in the aft. Famous Vessels in Class: ANS ‘Pearl Spire’ This ‘Chironex’ class vessel and it’s squadron gained fame for a daring charge at the advancing dindrenzi fleet. Whereas most aquan captains would keep distance and try to flank the foe, Pearl Spire’s squadron used beams as maneuvering thrusters, and deployed a minefield in the middle of the enemy formation, causing more damage than the light picket force could otherwise hope to accomplish. Terran cruiser: For most of Charter’s existence, the Sentinel was the fleet’s workhorse- a moderately armed vessel designed for long patrols and taking on multiple light enemies that the Terran settlers may encounter in the initial push. Only after the 1st Secession war was the need for a new, tougher vessel apparent, but only few ships of the Hermes class were constructed before the Dindrenzi successfully seceded. After that, a long process of designing an all-new vessel began, incorporating many of the alien technologies acquired by the new Terran Alliance. The Teuton class relies on it’s superior shielding instead of extra mass of the Hermes, and is the first Terran medium ship to incorporate beam weaponry as a standard rather than retrofit. Like all terran ships, it retains the strong torpedo armament, a tradition that harkens to the first days of space conquest. Famous Vessels in Class: NTSC ‘Ulysses’ Hermes class ship whose name dates back to earliest colonization period, the list of deeds attached to the name is as long as the history of the Charter. It’s last notable deployment was to the Veydreth tribes, serving as a liaison with the tribe chiefs, the ship’s pedigree providing clout necessary to get the raucous aliens to pay attention. Currently it is accompanying the same Veydreth clans to the Sorylian space.

  11. 1) You're forgetting that mines are a template attack and can potentially hit more than one ship. Using the grav weapons to push/pull you could potentially enable this easier Whereas the canny opponent will start to spread out when they see mines. Plus, its not all about raw damage dice. Their placement has a lot of board control effects on the game as you can cover likely shunt-in spots from your opponent, discourage closing for boarding attempts, cover a blind spot when defending a station etc. etc. etc. 2) In a pure Kurak alliance list, you can freely mix and match squadrons as long as you meet the tier requirements for ships and point size and fill your core. So, there is no percentage restriction. 3) Not gonna argue that Terquai are solid. They are really good choices. Just wanted to point out the Veydreth can be useful too and bring some different tactics to a mostly Tarakian fleet. I think they are a valid addition in the 800-1200 game. Going to even larger games I think Ryushi are needed for the PD and SRS they bring.

You know, the problem with doing research to figure out how to do my color scheme is that it involves looking at a lot of pretty Sorylian models... and now I can't stop thinking about how much I want a broadsword. Not only do I not understand why everyone thinks it sucks - actually, I think the stats are pretty good, if you know how to use it - but its really cool looking.

  13. My admiral is Commander Thaddeus Lucius Kane, the infamous Black Scorpion, leader of the black scorpion pirates, the most well equiped pirate gang in the sector. He is a former directorate fleet commander who managed to hijack an entire sectorial fleet under his command, now former directorate ships are painted red with the red scorpion mark on them and he fights against pretty much everyone out there for personal gain (he is robin hood and blackbeard in one) and trying atone for the horrible crimes he was ordered to commit while he was on directorate payroll by saving directorate prisoners from their captives when ever he is able to achieve it . He is a ruthless mercenary and has aquired through trade a lot of ships from both omnidyne and syndicate and has a loose alliance with Captain Lorna Skyree whose corsair ships acompany his fleet on allmost regular basis, rumors are that Capt Skyree a fiery redhead is Kanes mistress and is known to command the BC Frigga when her own fleet is not acompaniying the Black Scorpions. Captain Skyree is a daring individual and she exels at entering the battle through shunts and daring flanking maneouvers, wich more often then not are known to send the enemy in disaray and turn the tide of battle. His flagship is the Phantom class BB Wrath of Odin in his fleet there are also the sister BB Phantom class Rage of Thor, the Spur class BCs Freya and Frigga (wich will one day be able to be together in a squadron), the syndicate gunships Heimdall and Valkiry and omnidyne gunships Hel and Loki. The frigate squadrons Mjolnir and Gungnir are the scouts of and recon units of the pirate fleet. The bought and payed for Omnidyne DN Fenrir is used by the combined pirate fleet when Kanes spies and informants bring him news of larger fleets trying to corner, aprehend or kill him. Im sorry for any mistakes english is not my native language. You dont need to have a laser cutter, just access to one, Parametres for engraving on acrylic depends on the laser tube. in case anyone has acces to one, here i leave the parameters for 80W lasertubes: Engraving: power = 35 corner power = 30 speed = 8000 mm/min Cutting ( acrylic 5mm) power = 90 corner power = 80 speed = 1100 mm/min I usually prefer working in vectors cause its speed comparing it with rastering a text or image where the machine has to make a line every 0.1 - 0.3mm (imagine how many lines for a mere 3mm)

  16. The unit I'm mostly looking forward to try is the zarigani for the Empire of the Blazing sun. Its an smal robot with flamethrower. It only has firepower in rangeband 1, and only 3. Looks a bit underwhelming at first. Unless you start reading about flamer. Flamers combine fire, making 5 of them give a firepower of 15. Not thats not bad. In addition, flamers do a lot of nasty things, only by getting through the DR. 1. It takes 1 HP 2. It kills 1 AP straight away. 3. The target gains a fire token Now, this flamer in particlar has the coorsive as well, so this one gets 4. On corrosive token. Downside is that a critticle only adds another flametoken, not a HP or roll on the critical table. Now that is what I call a surprising punch! In addition it's small, and elusive AND can dive. Meaning, most things can only hit it on 6+ while its submerged. And most things half AD in addition. Should be darn difficult to destroy before you pop up with it. Diving, small flame-throwing robot. Me like!

  20. I never said that it was a good list But it does prove that there is some leeway if you wanted 2 allies etc, especially if your opponent is just as limited. What about this list for Dindrenzi with a Works raptor allied helix? 2x Kratos 3x Eris Med tank + 1 Circle 5x Leto 2x 3man Nyx Breachers + skydrop 3x WR Heavy Int. = 1990 Pretty hard hitting list there, probably an hour long game. Its just a start. But I think another 1000points would be all that's needed to keep balance between newcomers and vets.

  22. To be honest, we generally play 2K at the moment, it gives you the flexibility of having a minimum core and an ally or a mix of a full core. I think when there is a greater choice of helices it will increase. I reckon 3 or 4K would suffice; giving you more choice but still restricting you enough that you may have to compromise on units... We tried a 10000point game but it was far too large, we all agreed 1/2 as much would have been better.
    1 point
  23. 0.o Since when is a full core pigeonholing? That's nearly 10 units and over 20 models... nearly 60 for some armies. 4k still requires 2 allied helices to play legitimately, maybe when we get up to 3-4 of the secondary helixes released 4-5k can be normal but right now its just 'must play EVERYTHING!' mentality. 2 forces still can't even hit 4k.

I think in (sci-fi) reality, given that advanced sensors nullify the effects of traditional camo, most factions might stick with the basic factory paint scheme (like the Shermans) to save on cost. Or you may have heraldry coz, why the heck not?

  30. Hi, and thanks a million ! Sorry I said I was going to explain all my steps, and I still didn't do it. So here I go, see below ! Sorry about that ! Of course feel free to copy ! My whole method : I begin with the yellow - The yellow is a base of Tausept ocre, and I paint some sunburst yellow after to make it... more bright yellow - I work some shades with dilued washes of Snakebite leather, a quite tricky step - then I put some color variations in the plates doing some mixes on my wet palette, some darker, some brighter, some more grey... - highlight every plates one by one on the fore and the top borders - put some diluted brown in the grooves The red is quite the same - Dark flesh then many drybrushes of mephiston red, red + orange Macharius, and some red glazes to correct the color. - variations on the plates - highlights - grooves The metal is damn simple as we don't look much at it when it's all finished - Boltgun - one or two generous washes of Agrax earthshade - some metal highlights if brave enough The white marks are made with masking tape and pure white, 2 or 3 coats I guess The damages follow different techniques : - With blister foam, I create patches of dark green (Catachan like, but brown could do the job), and then some Codex grey, mostly at the same spots - Mainly on the fore, I draw some wide streaks with Snakebite+black, then darker and thinner streaks in the middle of the wide ones. At some other places I do bright grey ones - I stain some places with very diluted dark green like Catachan green You can see the red is darker and stained at some places on that pic For the turquoise light effects : - either with a brush (as on the gunship bays) or with an airbrush (side of the battleship), I painted some large surface with old Scally green. - then I put pure white, in the holes and their borders. That's for having a bright shinny blue after. - I put some turquoise (Sotek green) on the borders of the bay, and some diluted one ine the holes - I finish with a little touch of pure white again in the holes, but not every holes at the same brightness to make it more reallistic and alive. Near to the glowing engines, on the sides, I put a very diluted glaze of Scally green on the red, that does a very dark green by itself. For the purple lights its mostly the same with purple, pink and white, whith maybe more steps and difficulty to get some variations. And for the Kurak symbol : diluted white, good-shaped brush, and a firm hand I think all is said ! Cheers, Karun

  31. Meh, real life camo is done to help make locating at a distance tougher for the naked eye. These vehicles have such advanced sensors and optics with multiple functions that an actual paint scheme won't do anything. If you're trying to keep your exact location a secret with camo, you need more than the paint scheme, like nettings and whatnot, and typically it's more effective with something low to the ground. These monsters are HUGE, so they'd likely stand out against the terrain even if painted a camo scheme. And of course, you aren't really trying to conceal your position for a giant rocket pod shot from space right onto someone's doorstep. They'll tend to notice. EDIT: Do Aquan and Relthoza even paint their equipment? Aren't both closer to grown than manufactured, making their coloration more akin to skin pigment than Rustoleum?

It's never fruitful to discuss what's going to be "realistic" in a setting that's so far into the future, since from our current point of view and our current state of technology, "realism" would probably dictate that in ~1500 years, when FSA takes place (if I remember correctly), we're still stuck on our own, little planet... ...and as far a such an advanced Sci-Fi setting is concerned, you can probably come up with dozens of legit reasons as to why space combat would be reasonable at both extremely long or point blank range, why there are or aren't boarding action or as to why starfighters (and even starships) make perfect or no sense at all.

  34. Xiphos - 6x wings of whatever you want, Weapon Shielding/150pts +Falcata x2/120pts Falcata x8/480pts Reaper x10 All pack hunter all the time/250pts Should be 1000 even. For 1200, drop pack hunters, swap 5 reapers for 5 plumbatas, add 4 more Falcatas. 14 cruisers, 10 smalls, one carrier. Alternatively, you can swap the carrier group for a pair of Hasta for about the same points. I'm no mathologist or anything, but 14 cruisers sounds like a lot for anyone to deal with. *Edit* It should be noted, however, that other faction can replicate this too. At 1200pts, the Dindrezi can run carrier with two cruisers, 9 cruisers in three squadrons, 3 destroyers, and 8 corvettes. The difference then is two small hulls. I'm not going to do a horde list for every faction, but sufficient to say other factions can do this as well. The main difference is that our cruisers are ******* dope as hell, yo.

    CHAT LOG 3724

Hi all, The year has closed out and the Battle Log has awarded the win to the slimy Zenian League. But Battle Log points aside let's see who took the victory in terms of raw performance.... Yeah look it's still the Zenian League.. what a disappointment. That said across the board there was a grand total of 10 wins difference between the two, so definitely a tight and marginal conflict, not substantial in the slightest! So what was the breakup of the games contributing to the Zenian win. Who's was playing and what type of games have we been playing, let's have a look. Now let's take a look at how the factions have been fairing over the year. Faction by faction the star performers this year were the Kurak Alliance fleets themselves (let's ignore STL, a single game does not for stats make), followed closely by the Aquans. Looking at the other half of the Alliance it would seem that Aquans, Kurak are carrying the extra weight for their Terran and Sorylian colleagues. Despite their relative high number of wins the Terrans themselves average out, well, averagely. On the Zenian side of the fence the Zenian League fleets are flying the flag with Directorate following closely behind. Dindrenzi, the key instigators in this conflict have gone the way of their Terran foes and seem happy letting others do the dirty work. A few changes to how the stats will be captured next year. Most importantly the Zenian League and Kurak Alliance fleets will no longer be recorded as a collective. Rather we'll be asking you to record the specific sub-faction you used as we'll be providing stats on ALL factions now. I.e if you're using a Veydreth fleet please record the game as a Veydreth game instead of a Kurak game. If you're using mixed fleets within the the Kurak/Zenian fleets then please identify the core fleet you're using. Feel free to identify the other fleet(s) contributing towards the game though. Anyway, that's the summary to date. Excuse the delay in getting it up, busy end of the year. If there's any particular stats you'd like to see just let me know. Have a good year of gaming all and may the struggle continue! Kap

  43. Note No 'power' tools are used in this article and when I refer to glue I use 'super' glue. You also will sustain casualties in the process no matter how carefull you are, but not too many. An additional pack of Tiny Flyers is advisable The first thing you are going to have to decide is whether to paint them before or after you have removed them from the base. Initially I removed them and then painted them, but have found that painting the main colour on them first and then removing them is quicker. To Remove Using a Razor Saw I cut the Tiny Flyers off the base from the tail to the nose. Be gentle especially when cutting under the tail end of the fuselage. Remove the rear two together first then the lead one. You will get burrs on the Tiny Flyers when you saw them off. I found that the best way to get rid of these was to use a 1" bristle decorating brush to gently brush them off. Any stubborn ones can then be carefully removed with a sharp knife, though on the Prussian Tiny Flyers mind the wing mounted guns when doing this. At this stage attach any torpedoes or bombs to the underside according to taste. Next you need to drill a hole in the underside of where you want to mount the Tiny Flyer. This will generally be between the wings, but with the Prussian Tiny Flyers it is towards the tail plane at the apex of the wings trailing edge. For this I use a 0.8mm drill. Be careful not to drill through the model and bear in mind that you will be enlarging this with a ‘dimple’ for the acrylic rod to go in. I then mount the Tiny Flyer on a wooden cocktail stick for painting. Paint the underside, canopy glass, and any other detailing in your chosen colours, and varnish. To mount on base I use 2cm square clear acrylic bases that are 1/8 inch thick like the other flyer bases. You will need to mark these out so that the aircraft are in a ‘V’ formation of three like the original tokens, except for the Reconnaissance Tiny Flyers where I have chosen to mount one model centrally. To save marking out every base individually I chose to create a ‘template base’. Once I had marked out the base I drilled the three holes with a 0.8mm drill and kept it separate as my ‘template’. To mark any more bases simply line up the base to be drilled with the ‘template’ and score the new base through the template. I found aligning them in my fingers was fine. My Tiny Flyers are mounted on 1mm acrylic rod, which due to the manufacturing process is over 1.1mm so I drill the three holes with a 1.2mm drill. The rod I cut to the following lengths for the different Tiny Flyers: Fighter 30mm Dive Bomber 35mm Torpedo Bomber 15mm Reconnaissance 52mm The lengths you choose for your Tiny Flyers is obviously up to you. Use a sharp ‘Stanley’ type knife to cut the acrylic rod to length. Using side cutters tends to shatter the acrylic rod. I glue the cut to length acrylic rod into the base ensuring as best I can that they are roughly vertical. I next carefully enlarge the hole in the underside of the Tiny Flyer. You only need to create a ‘dimple’ to allow the Tiny Flyer to sit on the acrylic rod. Finally glue your tiny flyers into place accordingly. Here are some FSA tiny flyers I 'prepared earlier': http:// Hope you have enjoyed this article and it is of use. Remember this is how I do it, if you find another way that works for you go with it. Enjoy!

(which also helps explain why they get better morale when a nexus is around - the Second Law) The only drones I can see on the orbats so far are the Relthoza Jabri, the Terquai Nabis, the RSN Seraph, and the Directorate Stalker, of which only the Stalker has the Fearless MAR. And that kinda makes sense, since its little more than a flying laser light, with the controls on the Punisher it launched from. Also the only way I can see its Fearless MAR having an impact on the game is if its the only element from its original squadron left on the board - at which point its pretty useless.

  45. I personally am wary of Named Characters in wargaming in general. Sometimes, they add a little flavour to a force. Other times, they end up creating some horrific combo that results in cheese of the highest stink. And the line between the two is often frightfully thin. For background and fleet history and all that, they're fine, but in game, things can go wrong quickly.
    1 point
  46. I'm really against named characters. They tend to always be over the top and it often gets to the point where there is no reason not to take them even if they are balanced and toned down. Either that or they are totally worthless. Same goes for named ships. Must haves or worthless. Then there is the lame reasoning when 2 players want to take the same special characters were they say they aren't that exact character - but someone thst has their skills. I would MUCH rather an optional campaign system for getting experience for ships or commanders so you can create cool storys about Admirals that do amazing things. Or ships that are responsible for amazing feats in battle. At least these would be earned if all participants agreed.

Did it evaporate with the rules announcement? Would you have went a full year without spending 30$ if you knew this was coming? You have bought a rulebook that will lose nothing of it's qualities with the release of the PDF. Also putting up PDF for sale is kinda pointless, it'd be on a torrent site in approximately thirty seconds after release anyway, this at least nips the piracy right in the bud, and makes it easier for new players.
